I love the Voigtlander Bessa R2M. It's definitely worth checking out if your in the market for film m-mount rangefinders.

If anyone’s curious, the tattoo on that man’s chest says “Mom the Legend” in Burmese.

Yep! Thats what he told me when I asked him about it. He said it was for his mom. Cool that you could read it though. Thanks for pointing that out!

Very nice video and shots. Fave: 3:43 - Also, great comments on the strap rings. It's stuff like that that people need to hear. Cheers!

Great video. i just picked up a r3m and plan on reviewing it soon. glad you adresed the focusing patch and light meter. those are my two biggest issues right now.
@ZoneFocused5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it will be much of an issue to be honest. It's just that sometimes if not positioned correctly it will fade. After using the camera for a while, you will see where the sweet spot is. Have fun with the R3M!

Great video, been looking for a good honest review of the Voigtlander and you've done a great job here with beautiful pictures and a good feel for what the camera is like to use. Well done!

what is the difference between this and the R2? Are there framelines on either model for 28mm? Or can you get the viewfinder to sit in the coldshoe? Thx!
@ZoneFocused3 жыл бұрын
I think the only major difference between the R2 and R2M is the body style, and the R2M adds half stops in the exposure meter in the camera. Neither have 28mm frame lines. You would need to get an R4a/m for solid 28mm frame lines in the viewfinder. external VFs are useable on any camera with a hot/cold shoe.. Hope this helps!

Great user based review. Even better photos. I moved on to from a Bessa to Leica but kept the VC lenses. Totally agree with the terrible strap lug position. Good channel, please put out more content. Good luck and good light 💡

Thanks for the support! Yea the strap lugs are a headache but overall it gets the job done.

Fantastic video! Do you still have the R2m ? How would you compare it to the M6 now that you've owned both?
@ZoneFocused4 жыл бұрын
Nope actually sold the R2M body to get the M6. It was pretty close to be honest. I think the r2m has a bigger VF window and the frame lines are really bright. The overall build, fit and finish, and mechanics go to the M6 though

The problem with the camera tilting on the strap is easy to fix. Get the screw on grip from Voigtlander and that has a strap lug in a different place and it suddenly works just great. I have done so on both my R3A and R4A - works perfectly. Now you have no dislikes.
@ZoneFocused4 жыл бұрын
Yea, I was always eyeing the trigger grip so I could use vertical lugs.Also, I'd love to shoot the R4 one day!

Get the Peak Design straps. They are better with the tripod mount lug. My Voigtlander R2C is arriving from KEH. Thanks for the review.
@ZoneFocused4 жыл бұрын
You will really like it. The R2C is Leica thread mount right? I've never used one before, but I loved the R2M
@erichung90434 жыл бұрын
No, its Contax RF bayonet mount. Same body features but different mount as your camera body. It has an additional focusing wheel on the body though, just like the old Nikon and Contax rangefinders. The Contax RF and Nikon S bayonet mount were superior to the Leica LTM39 thread mount until Leica introduced its first bayonet M mount in 1961. Before that time, Contax (Zeiss Ikon) had dominated the rangefinder market.

@@erichung9043 Dope, I didnt know that. Thansk for dropping that knowledge. I knew the Nikon S series rangefinders and lenses were supposed to be some of the best of its time!

I actually picked it up in a camera store in Singapore. I forget the name, but they were locally made there. Very thoughtful from your uncle, he definitely hooked you up. Have fun with the camera!

Cheers man! I'm still pretty happy with the original Bessa R, even though my one is battered as hell. I mostly shoot with screw-mount 35mm Summaron, the saved weight with the R makes it a no-brainer for travels. It gets the job done well and even better I don't have to worry about expensive camera on me at shady-er places :)

That sounds like a fun setup and definitely incognito when on the go in unfamiliar places. If its been delivering the results you want that's all you can ask for! Happy shooting!

For what it's worth, my Olympus 35SP has lugs on the front and was doing that same shit. Snagged a peak design strap with those anchors and it has stopped that nonsense.
@ZoneFocused5 жыл бұрын
Man if only the Peak Design straps actually came in some other designs. I always liked the engineering of those straps, but the look of them never stuck for me. But hey if it’s doing the job to keep it from hitting you in the gut, it’s working!
@sLOMO_775 жыл бұрын
@@ZoneFocused the "leash" in black is super minimal amd the material is slick. The real kicker is if you carry more than one cam when you go street, you can just swap cams on the same strap. It's also long enough to sling carry a TLR. Def worth considering even if the looks arent 100% for you. ✌

Apparently, Leica is the gold standard that all others rangefinders' are trying to measure up to. What I find so comical is Bessa owners compare their cameras to Leicas. Leica owners don't compare their cameras to bessa and there's a good reason for that. It's for the same reason Michael Jordan doesn't compare himself to LaVar Ball. But LaVar Ball compares himself to Micheal Jordan. It's an inferiority complex made manifest.
