Having owned the 35f1.2 and the 23f1.2, I can say that the character and build is worth the hype and price. I bought the Mitakon 35f0.95 and it felt like a load of heavy garbage. The focus throw on Voigtlander glass is like watching a smooth second hand on an expensive watch; Buttery.

Haven't tried Mitakon, but I'm really satisfied with 35mm f/1.2 even after having XF35mm f/1.4 for a long time, so much character and oily bokeh, nice colors, sunstars and artistic flares wide open. Looks and feels great.

Lovely review! Thanks for making and sharing! You've really been doing good work covering this Voigtlander lenses! Information in english on these is sorely missing! Considering your experience with a lot of the Voigtlanders now I'd love more thoughts on how they compare to others with the rendering in general. Like, what exactly is different about the character? I get if you don't feel going too detailed is your style, but I'd just thought I mention I'd love to see that in case you where thinking about doing a video about that.
@doriyancoleman
@doriyancoleman Жыл бұрын
Thanks! A video doing that isn’t in my plans, but largely where you’re going to see it is in the shallow depth of field ranges. I would also say that all things considered, this is the sharpest of them all. Color rendition is the same for them all too. Still, at F8-F11 for example, this didn’t look so radically better than the 27 F2 or 23 1.2, that you should run out and get this over those. One day I would like to try the 35mm 1.2 to get a feel for that one as well 📸

@@doriyancoleman Thanks for replying. I really appreciate that! Looking forward to a 35mm f1.2 video for sure! It’s been said to really have a very classic rendering wide open. One thing I’m wondering about color (and tonality/microcontrast in general) of thr Voigtlanders is how it compares to Fuji lenses. I loove the Fujicrons for their punch colors and rich tonality. I looked at the 35mm f1.4, but the colors/tonality there are litle for subtle and less punchy (still beautiful though). I wondered how the Voigt handles this.

I purchased this lens the day it was released and have been beyond pleased with it. Excellent review and I too initially found the CA to be very pronounced, by then I quickly realized that I was being too picky, realizing that CA would be part of the equation with a lens this fast.
@doriyancoleman
@doriyancoleman 6 ай бұрын

Thanks for this Doriyan. I think possibly the most underrated feature of this lens is to manage such a bright aperture WITH a very workable MFD of 35cm. I own the Kipon IBELUX 40/.85 but am limited by it's MFT of 70cm which does rear its ugly head time to time. So for a lens almost as bright, better minimum close focus distance, electronic contacts... I think this Voigt is very competitive (and similarly priced). Good review, thanks!
@torb-no
@torb-no Жыл бұрын
Isn’t the Voigtlander 35mm 0.9 despite costing a bit, still about half the price of the Ibelux 40mm 0.85? (At least the mk 2 and 3 with updated optics).
@SummersSnaps
@SummersSnaps Жыл бұрын
@@torb-no Not anymore I don't think. I got my III Ibelux half price a year or more ago, paid about $1500AUD for it. The Nokton 35/.9 is $2500AUD over here, and now the IBELUX I think is seeing a permanent 50% off, everyone should be able to grab it around the $1500AUD mark. So it now seems the cheaper of the two unless the last time I checked the Kipon site I was seeing sale tags.

The Laowa has a clickless aperture ring and quite strong red flaring up to f/2, not so good to shoot against the bright light, it weighs 100g more and there is no electronic contacts. Quality control isn't that good either. But it's cheaper, 33mm and with less CA.

Thanks for this video, I was hoping someone makes a review not shooting just test charts but actual pictures. From what I've seen, I can stop wishing of one day having it as my Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 seems to have nicer characteristics, much less CA and is much smaller and lighter. I'm so happy Voigtlander keeps making so many interesting lenses for Fuji, I really missed having premium manual lenses before. Cannot wait for their next ones, that 50mm f1.2 looks sweet as well.

@@morespinach9832 The aperture does not change regardless what sensor you put it on. Only your field of view changes which also gives different background blur. Because 25mm lens has half the background separation of a 50mm lens, but because MFT is a 2x crop sensor, its essentially like cropping 4 times on a full frame sensor and you get equal field of views, equal background blur etc

I love Fuji, but an EF 50 1.8 has equivalent dof and costs like $50.

Ridiculous, every f1.4 on Fullframe has the same DOF, so nothing special. Loawa 35/0.95 FF is hard to focus or my noctilux or the 90/1.25!
