As a Voivodian of many decades, welcome to the party! I love that you admit that you are late to the party, but you're ready to party hard. Lots of great albums w/Voivod, a flavor for everyone. 👍

Voivod fan for 35 years now. Known them even longer, but it took me 'til 87 until I really got into them. Didn't really like their debut War and Pain, which now is funnily enough one of my favorite albums of them. But since 87 they have a fixed spot in my top 10 bands of all time. It's amazing how they still put out outstanding stuff after all those years. In 2005 Piggy their old guitar player died and I actually didn't think they could recover from that, but Chewie the new guy grew up as a Voivod fan and also was one of Piggy's students IIRC and he fills the spot perfectly, even brought some fresh ideas in and doesn't just copy Piggy. Here's a short album history, so you know what to expect when you dive in: War and Pain - Thrash/Punk Rrröööaaarrr - Pure Thrash Killing Technology - Progressive Thrash Dimension Hatröss - Progressive Thrash, little bit more progressive Nothingface - Even more progressive and less thrashy Angel Rat - Even less thrashy The Outer Limits - Back to Progressive Thrash, last album with Snake on vocals and Blacky on bass for a while Negatron - More aggressive Progressive Thrash with new singer Eric who also plays bass Phobos - Roughly the same style as Negatron, same line up Voivod - More on the Rock side, Snake returns as a singer plus Jason Newsted on bass Katorz - Also one of the more rocky albums. Was mixed after Piggy died. He literally gave Away (the drummer) the password to his laptop on his dying bed, so they could access the recordings. Not sure if these were used on Katorz or only on the next one. Infini - Last album with guitars by Piggy, once again more rocky. Target Earth - Progressive Thrash again. First album with Chewie, short return of Blacky on bass. As I said earlier, I did not expect them to recover, but they did and they came back swinging. The Wake - Once more Progressive Thrash, now with Rocky on bass and their current line up. No recommendations, I love all of them 😁

Synchronised anarchy sounds like it should be an oxymoron but I spent six weeks living at Stonehenge Free Festival back in 1979 so can confirm it can be a thing! As an English teacher of many years, I do what I teach and break difficult words down into their syllables (Pa-ra-norm-alium) then repeat a few times, speeding up each time (para-norm-alium...paranorm-alium) until I've got it. Hope that doesn't sound patronising - it's my job! A new band for me and a great sound. The intro reminded me of Sabbath's 'War Pigs' or maybe 'Iron Man' then went very Prog - all of which are good things. Interesting.

Glad you enjoyed it Tony. I haven't heard a great deal of their music but I love what I have heard. Will be listening to the new album when it comes out for sure.

Oh! Maximum the Hormone! And I came here for Voivod, one of my favourite bands! The guitarist you hear, Chewy, also has/had a band called Martyr- a tech death band. I think you can hear a bit of Voivod influence from time to time on their 2000 album Warp Zone. That tells me Chewy (Daniel Mongrain) was already influenced by Piggy and this an excellent choice for continuing the band.

I first discovered Voivod a few years ago. At the time, I was spinning Angel Rat and I liked it. But I like their other stuff, too. They're a great band. It's good to see that you have a favorable opinion of their newer stuff, at least. You mentioned death metal. Have you ever gotten into Black Dahlia Murder's discography? If not, start with Miasma. The next three albums after that are also great, as well as the recent-ish Verminous. Also check out Necrophagous and their album In Chaos, Ascend. Ooh, and I see you have some Devin Townsend on your channel. Whenever you're in the mood for a similar sound again, listen to Four Stroke Baron. Their album Classics was mixed by Devin. If you have heard all that I mentioned, then carry on with your day.

Cheers for the suggestions mate. I have Black Dahlia on my list to check out and I listened to Necrophagous the other day. I know it is very derivative of Morbid Angel but I loved it so much that I have the album on order.
