--------------------
CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE is a radio drama series created and directed by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982. Later in the early 2000s the show was repeated by the NPR satellite feed.
The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Marshall who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of those earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre.
CBS Radio MYSTERY THEATRE was broadcast each weeknight, at first with a new program each night. Later in the run, three or four episodes were new originals each week, and the remainder repeats. There were 1,399 original episodes.

@kathybowlin7174 that’s so cool! I used to listen to these with my Grandma when I stayed over with her, too😊 I listened to them at home, too sometimes and years later with my Dad. If you close your eyes, you can use these like a time machine and put yourself back to wherever you listened to them. A good imagination really is Wonderful!

I put the headphones on and listen to these wonderful stories while mowing the lawn. I had forgotten what it was like to not be entertained by a TV or a phone/gaming consoles. There is a place for those, of course, but radio theater is calming and filled with exciting imagination at the same time.

As a young mom in the 70’s I would take a late evening bath & made sure I was in bed before 11 PM. I remember the name Hyman Brown😮. I never caught the conclusion of any episode as this was my “sleeping aid”.

ALWAYS LOVED this radio program and E.G. Marshal was phenomenal! I remember listening to this in the late 70's early 80's. And I just LOVE the fireplace/radio setting while listening to this episode!! GREAT JOB!!

I love these, just like I do classic old radio series and any good audio stories really. . .without the pre-conceived visuals of film/television (other than truly great exceptions) I become much more involved as an active participant in the stories, and my imagination soars! To quote Tim Crook from "Radio Drama: Theory and Practice," they are "auditory in the physical dimension but equally powerful as a visual force in the psychological dimension." Exactly. The host, E. G. Marshall, is phenomenal, as are the stories, acting, sound effects, etc. And these are wonderful to drift off into dreamland to, as well. Thanks for uploading them.

The Canterville Ghost is one of my favourite episodes of cbsrmt and makin it 9*/10 is the fact that my fave actor stars in it Robert Dryden who is in my opinion just brilliant in every role he stars in. I'm the President of the Robert Dryden's Groupie Gang of Liverpool ha ha!!! How they got all these stories together and then enticed these actors of superb merit and then produced these- (in my opinion)- immaculate episodes that never lost their power to entice and involve and to be enjoyed by generations of families, friends and people like myself from England who accidentally came across this unknown beloved gem thru KZbin, so from myself a humongous thanx to KZbin and to the Uploader who without them/him/her i would be unaware of these shows that have been my 'only friend' late at night and for that words just arnt enuff!! Sorry for yammering on but happiness deserves to be heard!! Thank you cbsrmt may u live on long into the future from myself and all ur other devotees as of 20/2/23.

I love how jackasses think it's everybody's fault because of the way they're treated. If you weren't in jackass you wouldn't be treated like that 😅. I have a brother like that too. He thinks his life was so hard and he was so traumatized because his mama made him move schools. Meanwhile I have a stepfather that wants to be my boyfriend at 10??? But my brother was the one that was traumatized cuz he had to move schools 🤔🤔.😡
