Hi Andrew, I've raised the back of the elevator by 1mm on its seat, now I measure 3° angle difference (EWD, or einstellwinkeldifferenz in German) By placing the 1500Mah 3C in the planes "neck", that is on the wingconnectors/tubes, I could even place Josh,(the pilot) back, and leave the wheel as it comes off-factory. With the flaps 3 to 4mm down(=thermal setting), and the CG at 58mm, it floats forever ! Out of the box its incidence difference is near zero, so needs uptrimming all the time. Also I changed the prop-blades to 13X6,5... Now there's powerrrr ! at 33Amps +45° raises continuously Good flights, Rudi, Belgium

Puddsbrudda I tried 4S today on the stock configuration, and my motor whined at the top of the throttle output. I assume that I'll have to go larger than 30Amp for the ESC to be able to handle the extra power. Having the 4S really helped with flyability. Power is a lifesaver, especially in a lumbering plane, in windy conditions. Hope you can help! Thanks

Hi Andrew. I want to get an asw28, oldie, but great plane and I want to make a max time fpv platform with it. With the pilot out and the wheel removed, what do you think is the biggest practical house brick of a battery I could put in it and since they are a hassle to find, is there anything newer that would be better for this job?
@AndrewNewton Жыл бұрын
It's not designed for weight carrying, too flexy. The Phoenix or Ranger 2400 would be much better. Ranger could carry 2 x 5000 4S easily.
@justme.9711 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton Much appreciated. How does the ranger fly compared to the asw28?
@AndrewNewton Жыл бұрын
ASW28 is designed to be a thermal glider but doesn't glide slowly very well. The Rangers are powered planes that can glide. Watch the videos.
@justme.9711 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton You have flown both. Which one between the Ranger or the Phoenix both with 2400 wing would be best for long range FPV or which of the two would glide the best distance?

Oldie but goodie...Andrew, where does the ASW 28 rank on your list of favorite Volantex model and rank among planes in general? Hope you get this. I see an affordably priced model ASW on BG US...Thank you much!
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
Interesting question Doug. It's a lot of glider for the money and looks brilliant. But it's not great for thermal gliding. I dont think the slim wing translates well to foam, too flexy and twisty with a thick trailing edge. OK for powered flight and slope soaring but it is a bit delicate. The Phoenix Evolution 2.6m and Phoenix V2 are better thermal gliders, then the Phoenix 2400 and PhoenixS.

Andrew, I just got my ASW 28 in the air for the first time. Like I expected, I've got tons of tweaks to work out, but my biggest unresolved issue is the lack of motor breaking...the prop spins pretty much all the time. Do you know how to reprogram the ESC to turn on the breaking. I believe this will really help the overall flight performance. Thanks in advance! I really hope you can help
@Puddsbrudda8 жыл бұрын
Brian, 1st calibrate your throttle so that it totally shuts off at the bottom, these escs will not allow brake setting if it even thinks the throttle is too ''tight''
@BrianPhillipsRC8 жыл бұрын
Puddsbrudda I think I've already done this. I power up my transmitter with the throttle stick all the way down "-100%" and the throttle cut as well (locks the motor to -100% regardless of left stick position), then I plug in the ESC. This is a pretty standard startup protocal for me, but the ESC doesn't seem to break. I have other models (Consendo S) that have breaking, and it really helps to fold the prop quickly. I really don't want to have to go find and buy an ESC Programming Card for this one plane. It is a brand specific esc, so it'll be a chore to find it at all.
@AndrewNewton8 жыл бұрын
I changed to a Turnigy Plush ESC because I have the programming card to enable motor brake.

Saw someone parasailing in the background there. Cool. Love all the camera angles you provide us. I notice you keep her close to the dunes. Have you tried flying with more altitude, say 4 or 500 meters up? I would think with that windspan you could still keep a good visual of it so high in the sky. Just wondering what your thoughts are on that. Cheers!
@AndrewNewton8 жыл бұрын
I could motor up that high and float down, but this was a pure slope soaring session just using the lift available. When I'm hunting thermals I tend to motor up to 100m and see what I can find from there. More of a challenge.

Great video as usual Andrew. I asked you a few questions about building my HK Versus 2 last year and as it was my first DLG build I really couldn't have done it without your videos. I am now hooked on DLGs- I would love it if you could build one of the more pricey DLGs like a Blaster 3.5 (hint hint). As far as this glider (ASW 28) goes how would you rate it compared to other pure gliders you have flown? Keep up the good work!
@AndrewNewton8 жыл бұрын
Blaster would be nice, maybe one day. The only glider I can compare the ASW to is the Radian, and it's similar but more surfaces to play with. Better for sloping with the PVC fuselage and flaps, but maybe not as easy to thermal. For a cheap foamy it is very good.

Much better on the slope, it's effectively flying fast all the time, even when it's hovering.

Oh i like how it sounds.. it implies good penetration airfoil.. but i was worried if it would prone to tipstall like those high ratio wings.. i have the Artech ASK21 and while i can fly it fine it requires to be very carefully with turns at low speed..and if it gets stucked in the slope suction area its prone to fall down unless you keep wings level
