Volantex ASW 28 V2 + build and setup detailed instructions +7 most known issues resolving tutorial

The instructions of this model have a major lack on important information for the sucessfull build and set up of this awesome plane.
So I decided to make for everyone who needs it a full complete and detailed instructions about the build ,the proper set up and the solutions to resolve the 7 worst issues with this plane like the CG "nose heavy" syndrom, the canopy and a lot more of stuff..
the build is divided in 6 parts which are divided into build sections.

Wirklich ein gelungenes Video! Danke für die ausführlichen Verbesserungsvorschläge, welche ich mir auf jeden Fall zu Herzen nehmen werde! Meine ASW habe ich heute beim schweigenden Hofer bestellt und hoffe, dass auch ich die "Plus" Variante erhalten werde. Gern geschehen!Es ist ein tolles Modell mit sehr viel Potenzial,allerdings leider mit einer beschämend schlechten Anleitung und einigen wirklich schlechten Detaillösungen..Mit ein wenig Arbeit kann man jedoch so einige heraus holen ..Anlass genug sich einmal die Mühe zu machen,solch ein Video zu erstellen :-) Eine Kleinigkeit habe ich allerdings vergessen im Video zu vermerken, es ist Ratsam den lateralen Schwerpunkt Anhand von kleinen Klebegewichten an den äußeren Servo Aussparunger der Flügel mittig einzustellen ,sprich so das er exakt links und rechts gleich schwer ist !!! Meine ging unglaublicher Weise beim Erstflug dermaßen Neutral ,dass ich absolut NICHTS nachtrimmen musste! Thank You verry mutch for this Instruktions. The wheel is not so far away from the Schwerpunkt, also why take out the wheel. The pilot ist heavy and In the front, der muss weg, ganz klar. Ansonsten super typs und Ergänzung zur Etwas spährlichen Anleitung. Vielen Dank auch für die Fotos. Morgen baue ich mir meinem neuen asw 28 v2 zusammen. Neuer Regler, servos, Motor müsste gehen

Hallo Phillippe , Gern geschehen! Die Beiliegende Anleitung ist leider ein Witz,nur kein guter.. Das Rad zu entnehmen hat mehrere Gründe,zum einem entsteht im inneren mehr Raum,so dass man problemlos auch andere lipo Größen nutzen kann ,unnötiger Ballast unabhängig des Schwerpunktes,der hierdurch aber ohnerlei Zusatzgewichte am Heck nach Belieben Einstellbar wird und nicht Zuletzt wird die Segelflugleistung durch Herabsenkung des nicht zu verachtenden Formdrags reduziert ,was den Vogel effizienter macht. Die Servos von der Plus sind in ordnung,duie der normalen Version 2 sollten Hingegen unbedingt getauscht werden.Auch der 1050kv Motor hat bei einem passenden Timing mit einem vernünftigen Regler mehr als genug durchzug;-) Wünsche dir viel Erfolg bei der Montage und ganz viel Freude beim fliegen,ist ein tolles Modell!! Ps:Achte zum Schluss aus die symmetrische Gewichtsverlagerung!

@@voneboy Hab gerade überlegt den asw 28 mit Folie zu bespannen, der Winter wird Nass und außerdem läßt er sich so besser Reinigen. Aerodynamisch wir's auch Besser sein. Die Folie haftet super und muss nur wenig erhitzt weden. Fange jetzt mal mit dem Höhenleitwerk an und arbeite mich dann vor. Hab außerdem 4 Kanäle für die Flächen, also y Kabel raus und 4 Verlägerungs Kabel rein. Der Bec hat bereits Bremse Aktiv

@@philippeneuhaus5694 Kann man machen wenn man es möchte ,aber auch die Folie besitzt Masse.. In der Aerodynamik ist es so ,dass man 4 Kräfte hat die auf das Flugzeug wirken , Drag,thrust/Lift,weight ,zu jeder Kraft leitet sich hierraus eine "Gegenkraft" heraus. Masse/ Effizienzgrad Technisch bei Uns in der Luftfahrt, sagen wir das +- 1% Massezuwachs in 1% gestiegener Energieverbrauch resultiert. Grund dafür ist das die 4 herschende Kräfte direkten Einfluss aufeinander haben.. Da ich jetzt nicht zuweit ins Detail gehen möchte ,versuche ich es einfach und Kompakt zu halten: Mit der Folie erzielst du eine Absenkung im Bereich des formdrags,was ja durchaus gut ist! Aufder anderen Seite jedoch erhöhst du das weight des Flugzeugs was natürlich die Vs erhöht und somit auch ein erhöhtes Mass an Lift fordert um die masse auszugleichen,Lift jedoch fordert natürlich auch drag welches wiederrum einen erhöhten thrust fordert um die die Kräfte in balance zu halten.. Eine wirklich konkrete Aussage darüber machen zu können mit welcher der Variablen verschiebung man jetzt am effizientesten unterwegs wäre bei diesem Modell würde eine CV Wert Vermessung vor und Nachher erfordern ,damit man dieses tatsächlich berechnen könnte..However es ist ja "nur" ein Freizeit Modell und von daher kann man natürlich offensichtliche Instanzen die den Formdrag negativ beeinflussen wie das Rad entfernen ,aber ob es sich letztendlich tatsächlich Effizienztechnisch lohnt diesen zu bespannen sei mal dahin gestellt.. Die differenzierung der Kanäle kann durchaus Sinn machen !! Ich persönlich habe es nicht gemacht weil die mir die mechanisch eingestellte Differenzierung der Querruder vollkommen ausreicht,habe es jedoch zum Zwecke des Butterflys bei der Landung auch bereits in Erwägung gezogen..Die ASW 28 im groundeffekt zu landen ist so eine Sache,da Sie freiwillig scheinbar einfach nicht mehr runter will;-)

Hallo CoderBz , No you can"t ,because the stock ESC ist only rated till 3S ,however with the new motor there is realy no need to use 4S ,because it have allready with 3S plenty of power!

Sehr gern geschehen,es ist ein sehr schönes Modell doch dessen Anleitung ist leider eine Katastrophe,weshalb ich damals beschlossen habe dieses Video zu erstellen. Volantex und Modster sind keine eigenständige Hersteller,sondern eine Art Vertrieb die Modelle anfertigen lassen und auf Ihren Firmennamen umlabeln.Zu gut Deutsch Ob man nun die Modster ASW 28 oder wie in meinem Fall die Volantex ASW28 kauft ,ist vollkommen egal.😉Bin mit meiner noch dieses Wochenende geflogen 🙂 Grüße aus dem Emsland

@@voneboy Hallo, ach herrlich, bin gerade dabei alles zu googeln was ich brauche und da kommt deine super schnelle Antwort. Super, dann könnte ich auch die Ersatzteile die es von modster gibt nehmen. Ich hole meinen ASW in der Nähe von Bremen ab. Glaube die Kabine kann auch schnell kaputt gehen. Darf ich noch weitere Fragen stellen;) Ich würde mir einen 3s 1300 holen wegen Gewicht und dass man weniger benötigt am Heck. Wie lange sind die Flugzeiten mit deinem Lipo? Dann kann ich es einschätzen. Gibt ein 3d Mod für Schnellverschluss der winglets, könnte Sinn machen. Wo ist der CG, scheinbar ist der nicht immer korrekt. Lieben Dank.

@@silentjack4446 Genau ,dieses hat mehrere Gründe,zum einen senkt es den „Form Drag „ ,bedeutet die Kiste fliegt effizienter,zum anderen eröffnet es aber zusätzlich Möglichkeiten auch andere Lipos zu nutzen .Zudem senkt es das TOM und man braucht nicht mit irgendwelche Gewichte am Heck zu arbeiten! Die Schrauben an der Kanzel sind sehr wichtig,andernfalls könnte es beim abnehmen dieser zu Risse kommen,meine hat bis heute nicht einen . Dann mal schöne Grüße an meiner alten Heimat und bei Fragen,fragen😉

what are the throws for the control surfaces? do you really need to bend the control rods on the rudder and elevator?

Unfortunately yes,because otherwise it will stress the servoarms and the epo material as well..But it isn’t really a big deal to bend them slightly

@@voneboy I had to put an ounce on the tail to get the CG right and that was with a little smaller battery all the way back too

@@embededfabrication4482 If you delete the landing gear like Idid you have no need to add any additional weights on the tail !👍 Additionally the damn landing gear creates a lot of form drag decreasing the true potential of this beautiful machine 😉

I have the Phoenix 1600-2000 and 2400 also from Volantex, which such an incredible good build compared to the ASW. Only the ESC and prop needs to be replaced for 4s... Screws for the rods, that is so old.. I really dont understand this model is build so different. I was thinking of buying this one, but i doubt after all "necessary" required the mods.

Thanks for your comment :-) Yeah , the ASW 28 requires some more work in comparison to the phoenix series of Volantex ,thats absolutely right! However in combination with some improvements the ASW is an awesome airplane ,so I think that its worth even it requires some work..However the phoenix series are great too, but it is simply a total different glider with very destinctive flight caracteristics in comparison to the ASW 28 , so I definitively like them both! PS: Oh,a quick advice about the phoenix 2400 ,it would be a good idea to reinforce the motor mount on his fuselage , it allready many times happened that the motor on a 4 S set up has broken the motor mount during the flight !!! wish you good flights and a nice evening!

@@voneboy Thanks for you reply. Oh gosh, good to hear about the motor mount, just in time actually. I have just placed a 60a esc in the 2400 to fly on 4s, but i couldnt tried it as I am waiting on banana plugs to arrive. How did you do the fix on the motormount, some extra ply-wood on the front perhaps? Is the motor becoming too hot so plastic is getting too soft? I am really glad to hear this at the point i want to fly 4s, i wonder how fixed this.

@@bobkeul7682 welcome :-) I would recommend to make a reinforcement with a 2mm thick fiberglas plate in the same shape as the front part of the fuselage nose them self ,this reinforcement should be glued from the inner side with some 24 hours Epoxyd .Note: Please keep in mind that a more quick drying Epoxyd or other glue may damage the plastic of the fuselage because of the chemically reaction heat ,so it"s recommendable to use a slow drying Glue type like the 24Hrs Epoxyd glue ;-) This will make the front part of your Phoenix more resistant and less susceptible to heat deformations caused by the motor generated heat . "Oh gosh, good to hear about the motor mount, just in time actually" Yeah ,it was a good coincidence in order to avoid a sad crash of your new airplane If you have further questions ,please let me know! Thanks for posting. My older asw28 v2 is being built over this winter. So video's like this are a big help. One other tip that I have read is the need to shim up the back of the horizontal stab,,, to change the angle of incidence. Do you see a need for that ?? Also,, how have you found the larger 1050 motor performs,, compared to the 850 ?? thx,,, Alan

Hello mate,welcome!I"m glad to could help other people with my tutorial video because the instruction manual have in many details a big lack of information.. I know that some guys shim up the the back of the horizontal stab to change the incidence angle,this is one method to counteract the tendency of the plane to fly "noseheavy" as he is known for.However this is in my eyes not the best solution, because it will create a lot of more drag in flight, it"s better to delete the wheel like I prescribe it in the tutorial to be able to set the CG correctly ,.In the end you will get the same effect,but with least drag without decreasing the overall performance of the ASW :-) But it"s important to sand the holding part of the fin in order that horizontal stab reaches the correct angle like I explöain it in my video. Both motors are identically on his size ,the only difference are they rpm speed per Volt (Kv) .If you chose the old one with 850 kv,It is almost mandatory to operate the plane on 4S ,this will give you nearly the same rpm value on the prop as the new higher rpm version (1050Kv) .An other option that some users have chosen is to compensate the lesser rpm value with a bigger prop to produce round about the same thrust that the plane would have with the higher rpm value , of course this will produce also some side effects in repect to the assymetrical thrust phenomenon (the tendency of a plane with a clockwise prop wanting to turns to the right during the acceleration process) I prefer for all this reasons the 1050rpm version of the motor in the ASW . @@voneboy Yes,,, I am equipping with 850 motor, and 4s 2200 LiPo,, 50amp esc, 11x8 prop as well as the stock 10x6. Initial battery position may be above the wing joiners, to optimize the CG ( one pack seems to fit snuggly there). I would like to try the landing wheel before removal. I have the connectors required to double up on the 4s 2200 at some future point,, but do not have to do that unless extra weight is desired. I used to add ballast rods to my Multiplex gliders in strong slope lift and winds. I am sure I will have many questions,,, so thanks for your kind offer to share,,, cheers,, Alan

Boa noite Manuel Magalhaes, A medida exacta , penso que forao parafusos com a medida M1,5. Os furos antes de aparafusar os parafusos forao feitos com uma broca de 1mm ,para nao escorregar com a broca ,fiz com algumal paciencia a primeira parte do furo com uma agulha. a broca de 1mm utilizei manualmente ,para evitar qualquer erro..Reque mais paciencia mas vale a pena! O "Cellpack" e um dos nomes mais conhecidos em termos da tal fitacola especial que tem uma consistencia bastante forte mas absolutamente elastica, e utilizada no nautimodelismo para vedar as tampas dos barcos .A marca nao tem importancia, qualquer loja de radiomodelismo que tenha artigos de nautimodelismo ha de ter essa fita cola :-) Se nao for muito longe ,tenho praticamente a certeza que a loja "Entretem" no CC da Portela tenha essa tal fita cola para o nautimodelismo. @@voneboy Viva Boa Noite O motor é o de 850 KV . Não sei se será um pouco curto, mas eu também não tenho grande noção uma vez que é o primeiro avião deste tipo que eu tenho. Obrigado pela ajuda Manuel

@@manuelmagalhaes4680 Viva e boa Tarde Manuel :-) O motor na versao com 850kv funciona muito bem utilizando 4 S em vez de 3S , mas para isso ,e preciso um variador que trabalhe com 4 S com pelo menos 40 Amp. Com 3 s e o helice original o modelo sofre um pouco ha custa de falta de potencia ,a descolagem torna-se ha custa disso um pouco mais dificil! ..Tambem e possivel compenssar copm o motor de 850KV com um helice maior, com o helice de origem o Motor produz uma potencia de 165 Watt com uma currente maxima de 15,8Ampere , com um Helice 12*7 o motor produz uma potencia de 262 Watt com uma currente maxima de 25,4 ampere. A razao principal da minha pregunto nao tem a ver com o motor ,mas sim com os servos que vem montados nessa versao que tem a transmissao toda em plastico.Recomendo a trocar esses servos por servos com a transmissao em metal ,pois os que estao montados podem vir a criar serios problemas, pois sao bastante frageis !! Ajudo com todo o prazer!!! Miguel
