You didn't understand it right. If you put it that way, its 250 magic for 8 silver since the 1g is cancelled out with the 1g profit as well.

250 magic and 1 gold to make 2 gold and 8 silver which is 1 gold and 8 silver per 250 magic (43 copper per magic)
