Me too! I got a V.keys because of this video. Never got to do anything this glorious with it. Made a few soaring synth leads but gave it away as I could never really get mine to tune with other synths. Either way I still come back every few months to check in on this gem.

Holy shit, the volca beats really nails that 70s drum machine/ CR-78 sound in this demo! Sound fantastic and with that delay it's simply beautiful, I think you've persuaded me to buy one. Great sounds and chord progressions.
@FortressofSound4 жыл бұрын
it definitely has that old-school beatbox sound. I wish they made a volca cr-78 (my favorite drum machine). Thank you for the kind words. It certainly takes some practice to get it sounding smooth like this, but with delay it helps alot.

Really great performance! I recently bought a Keys and an FM. Love 'em both because of form-factor and sounds. Lacking a bit on the functionality-side maybe, but the way I see it it's breeding creativity! The cool thing about the FM is that you can import DX7-libraries to it!

Thanks! Yep, you can turn on flux mode and use it at slower tempos to get a pseudo 128 step. With the beats you can use the synced delay to create a beat that is running at really slow BPMs but sounds much faster.

Is it possible for you to kindly explain how these machines are connected to each other and how they’re recorded? I would love to know how as I want to do something similar with my korg gear. Thanks
@FortressofSound4 жыл бұрын
It was the korg volca keys, connected to the behringer echo pedal, when both the volca delay and the behringer pedal are dialed in just right, you can get quite seamless with the sound. You've got to give your synth a slow attack and release, and really practice on the playing because to play 3 notes smoothly, all must be pressed simultaneously, otherwise it will retrigger. Just an inherent limitation of the volca. The drums were just plugged in directly, and the sound is right from the beats. I did mod the beats with the "snare mod" give it a clearer punch.

Love this! How do you run the two volcas at such different tempos? are they not synced (but looks like there are lines syncing them)?
@FortressofSound6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The keys is running at 1/4 time, in flux mode, so it can record more detailed melodies, but is unquantized.
@thisisdaisine3 жыл бұрын
Idk if you'll see this; I'm really wondering how you managed to have such a slow chord progression going on on the keys? at this tempo, I can only do one of those chords to the beat, not a 4-chord progression. (idk if my wording is making sense). EDIT: I just figured it out lol... nvm, but really really cool jam, gave me some ideas
@FortressofSound3 жыл бұрын
Yep, for others that may be wondering, all you need to do is use "FLUX" mode, which is not quantized, but you can record longer sequences! Thanks for watching.
