This is a little deceiving. I don't know whether it's the pickups, the guitar's tone control being rolled back, the amp settings or what, but the Yamaha can sound just as bright as the Gibson does here. Two very different sounds on the video, but in real life they can sound quite similar.

I can never understand why the Yamaha SG series were never as popular as they should have been. They really were (are!) great instruments. I believe that they are as good as anything produced by Gibson. I would also advise anyone who is thinking about a semi to check out the Yamaha SA2200. Superb!

LP custom, without doubt. More presence, richer high ends, more useable sonically, etc.Yamaha also great, mellow jazzy clean, fat tone, wonderful.

Я слышу явный перевес у Гибсона в плане полноты, яркости и сбалансированности звука. Возможно дело в настройках, но это прослушивается на всех видео где сравниваются Ями и Лестер. Мне звук Ями больше напоминает ПРС. Так вот слышу..

Two excellent guitars, but the Gibson sounds better especially in crunch and higain sound. In the clean sound, it seems to me that the two are tuned very differently (neck pickup height), the Gibson with much higher frequencies than the Yamaha.

Interesting comparison. Although a little weaker sounding I prefer the greater character in the Gibson. I own and have gigged with a 1982 SG 1000 left handed since I bought it new, so not a fanboi comment.

yamaha its more jazzy sound less versatile, but the gibson its perfect for blues rock, jazz in my opinion!! :)

The les paul is a really fantastic guitar. You can like it more or less than the yamaha. But most of the medium and high end yamaha sg models feature push-push pots with coil tapping so you have more sounds to choose, so it's more versatile than the gibson. Have you really tried one? Do it as soon as posible. Cheers

У Гибсона гриф кленовый у ямахи из махогони, накладка и там и там из эбони - вот ИМХО принципиальное различие, особенно на чистом сие слышно-)

The shape of the SG is so perfect ... i really do not understand why they do not provide a cheaper version with the same look/shape ? maybe just a flat slab of wood but with the same shape. I like it so much better than the Gibson SG ...

They did. I forget the model numbers, but Yamaha issued several models that were missing some of the features of the SG2000, such as the brass sustain block and maple top. The "lesser" models are still fine guitars - I might even prefer them. There are even some very cheap Yamahas with that general body shape, but thinner bodies; some, I think, even had bolt-on necks.

gino Yup, the only guitar I owned for over 30 years was the entrry level model: SG 200!! There were many lower priced models made: SG 200, 500, 800, 1000, 1500, and a few more! Some have the model as SBG which is identical but labelled for North America. I would grab any of those lower models. But aim for the highest number you can afford. The 200 is still my favourite as it has lower output humbuckers that sound like a cross between a Strat and a Les Paul! I just got an SG 2000 - it is awesome! Heavy -but awesome! IMO, Yamaha make some of the best guitars for the money and now I own quite a few!

Интересное сравнение конечно, на хайгейне один в один всё звучит, но всё же не очень правомерно сравнивать эти гитары, на Yamaha SG 2000 конструкция грифа иная (он сквозной), а у Gibson LP вклеенный, при сквозном грифе принцип распределения звука совершенно иной. Вот с Yamaha SG 1000 было бы точнее сравнивать. А вообще Гибсон острее звучит, но как то площе ямахи, Тут конечно и нюансы датчиков сказываются. + ко всему это ИМХО))

не вижу никакой разницы с ''Лес-Полом'' у которого кленовый топ а иногда даже гриф-те же яйца -вид с боку и только рога острые :) Зачем переплачивать за Гибсон когда можно взять Ямаху с тем же звуком и набором специй но дешевле?...

Конечно гибсон, ямаха здесь как кусок мыла, если добавить еще одну такую же гитару в микс, страшно представить, что из этого выйдет, кто то там писал про породистость, не понял в чем она заключается? - мыльный, невнятный, невыразительный звук, вряд ли синоним породистости, звук ямахи скорее подходит для джаза, чем для чего то еще, в тоже время гибсон звучит действительно фирмово и, на мой взгляд, более универсален...

Maxim Hormonov я слышу тоже самое. Весь интернет исписан историями о легендарной СГ2000 «убийце Гибсона». Вот слушаю видео, пытаюсь понять, о чем это они. И Гибсон жив:)

Мне и «джазовый» звук Ями не понравился. Очень узкая динамика в этой записи. Как будто тон скручен. Если на Гибсона его опустить он будет живее , динамичнее.
