__________
The Made in Japan MIJ Yamaha SG-2000 had a carved, mildly figured three-piece maple top. Instead of a set neck, it featured a three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany laminated neck-through design conducive to greater sustain. The body wings consisted of a “sandwich” of laminated mahogany. In order to further enhance sustain, the SG-2000 had a brass block under the bridge.
The guitar featured a contoured back with a scoop out of the top waist to increase playing comfort. The head of the SG-2000 featured the double-dipped shape, with five-ply binding, a block lettering logo, and a fancy three-piece floral inlay. The 22-fret ebony fingerboard was bound with mother-of-pearl split-wing inlays. The top also featured five-ply binding. The guitar featured a 24.75" scale length.
The twin-shielded Alnico V humbuckers were covered in black plastic with a cool cover that surrounded the bobbins, but left them and the poles exposed.
The laminated pickguard was slightly elevated, while the finetune bridge had metal saddles, and the stop tail was engraved with a harp-and-scroll design. Hardware was gold-plated.

I'm obsessed with Yamaha SGs, they're my favorite guitars of all time. I have one and I can attest to its status as a Les Paul killer. I never went back to mine after I played it. Beautiful, well-crafted guitars, amazing for doom/stoner metal and pretty much anything else too. They'll break your back but they sound incredible. They can be a bit hard to find in the States sometimes but there's plenty of them on the used market over in Japan. Let's hear a demo!

The Yamaha Sg 2000 is a fantastic guitar. I played one for several years, I purchased it because Carlos Santana was playing one at the time and he was one of my heroes. another guitar I had that's a little more obscure was a Hagstrom Swede, it looked similar to a Les Paul, it had an attractive wood grain finish, and the quality was honestly pretty decent.

@@DoesItDoom Allright, yes that makes sense, a pity though! Clouding of the finish seems to be relatively common issue with these vintage SG's. Given my damaged spine and knee, I can't handle heavy guitars for extended periods, even if they look as gorgeous as this But I'd say some kind of SG Custom with the 3 pickup setup (be it Epiphone or Gibson) is on my radar for a potential buy, in the future

I ended up returning it. The finish was just kinda gross and overall I much preferred my first act DC-6 guitars in terms of size, shape, and neck profile.

I love my two Les Pauls, they are the best guitars I've ever played or owned for sure, but there are so many other guitars I would love to try. I would love an Iommi SG but I just don't like the feel of SG's for some reason. I really want an Ace Frehley LP but that's not going to happen. Congrats on your new guitar it looks killer, maybe you could buff out that "blushing" it looks like it's just the varnish that's discolored.

I share a birth year with that guitar, and it's in way better condition than I am!😂 I'd love to get a '60s SG junior but sadly I have a mortgage to pay already.

How do you feel about seven string guitars for doom/sludge etc. stuff? Why is it that you don't see people playing seven strings in these genres🧐

Same. They show up often shipping from Japan, but I never wanted to try that. This one came from Florida.

Dude, any reason why your bridge pickup has only 3 screws on top?

@@DoesItDoom I was asking as I have a '77 SG2000 with the same screw set up as yours. I think the bridge pickups must have been changed out at some stage, as it looks like the standard SG2000 pickup ring set up is 4 top, 3 bottom, on both pick ups. All the best man!

yeah these old Yamahas are truly cost effective monster, aside from these weird finish anomaly which just looks ugly at times.....I tried out some SG1000 (set neck and with no sustain block, etc....) which was around 900 dollar range in Japan and man, it felt AMAZING

@@DoesItDoom for older 70s-80s Yamaha, it's apparently common occurrence, its not just SG, ive seen one on some Yamaha ES335-type guitar (I forgot the model name, I think a guy from a post rock band God is an Astronaut used one, his didnt have the blemish tho)

@@TheZooropaBaby Maybe a Yamaha SA2200 or SA1200? And yes the blooming/clouding of the finish appears to be typical to these instruments from the 70's.

I have a Yamaha SF1000 from the same era. If the Yamaha SG is Yamaha's response to a Gibson Les Paul, The SF1000 seems to be yamaha's response to a Gibson SG. I love it. Best guitar I own.
