I dont know what you would use it for but anything other than wanting to go fast. I dont know if you heard or know what it means but it has 400nm of torque equal to 300lb/ft.. Which is more than enough power for any offroad or towing situation.. And with 36mpg on a truck! This thing is absolutely ahead of the game.. You cant buy a diesel engine and look at the horsepower because they are not made for that.. Keep in mind the 16 wheelers which pull tons of stuff around usually have about 300hp.

Had mine new in Sept 2011 and done 26k with no problems at all, A1 truck and far better than my previous navara.

It is a classy-looking machine. We don't get the F150 over here and we haven't seen a Ram for some time either as Dodge has pulled out of the UK. We do have a Ford Ranger but have yet to test it. We'll keep you posted.

the only thing holding back the potential of the Amarok is this 2ltr engine,you can hear it overworking,VW needs a 2.5 or bigger,it would be a beast! Quality lately hasnt been the best,it can improve

I don't know the front could have looked a little more aggressive and the back could have use some better design but overall a good pick up. I'd still pick a F150 over it but this will do. But the fuel economy is incomparable. Good review Cheers,

People here are pretty loyal to american trucks. I don't think a whole lot of serious truck guys would buy a volkswagon over an f150. But that's what they said about the toyota tundra and nissan frontier and both have done pretty well over the years so who knows

With a 3.0TDi / 3.6VR6 engine choices and SUV version with competitive prices to Toyota ( way lower than Tuareg ) this VW seems to have great potential in the North American market, especially due to high fuel prices. A full size pick up truck with only driver & passenger 7km/l on the highway and around 5km/l urban, VW with its low fuel consumption & practicality can kill the Texas size V8 beast.

Hi... Volkswagen mechanic here in Oz... i am not too sure about america or Europe.. I have herd nothing but great things about em in EU... Our climate punishes cars and so I say this very clearly... They failed with releasing this vehicle.... many campaigns and issues out especially with the Clutches letting go before first service (15k)... Not a fan... and they did not consider the mechanics when building this car so almost all work is pricey labour wise... Theres my 2 cents....

Ranger in Uk is not even close to the one in the Us... English Rangers have badass styling and a cool diesel engine to back it up.. Us ranger looks like 2 older models behind from uk one.. And amarok is not in the same class , F150 and the RAM 1500 is a full size truck , ranger , tacoma (hilux) and frontier (dont know whats it called out of US ) is the few trucks that is comparable but amarok is probably the best..
