@Frank Garrett well, it’s kind of a loaded question honestly. Yes, displacement helps make power but there are so many other factors like trans gearing, tire size, do you want top end power, low end power, not to mention engine specs. You could build a 2332 with stock heads and stock cam but that doesn’t mean you’ll keep up with other 2332’s.
@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
@Frank Garrett I hear ya Frank. If I had access to a dyno and had the funds to build the 2 engines, it would be a great experiment. In theory, the same engine but with more displacement would have more torque which should make more hp. How much more? Wish we could find out.

Nice video. My question about the cam was a bit leading. I love that cam in my 2017. I found with my fk8 cam I was able putt around like a stock motor below 3000 RPM but the extra torque of the Stroker made up for moving up the RPM range with the fk8 and yeah the giggles come after 3000 RPM all the way up 6500 RPM. I like your reasoning on your motor size and choice for parts but you've got a great Foundation to grow that motor should you decide you need it. I also agree on the exhaust upgrade for those heads I think the 1 + 5/8 exhaust will really help and breathe. For your transaxle in the future if you keep with your no burnout no clutch dump policy a stock transmission will be fine. For the More spirited driving I would install a 4 spider differential and weld your 3/4 gear hubs when you upgrade. I love a sleeper no better feeling than when someone tries to cut you off or get around you just because you're a Volkswagen and you can grab gear and drive away from them. Gary, I need advice. I paid a VW Performance shop to build me a brand new (New Mag Case) 1915 and update my 6v to 12v. This VW shop has been in business for over 25 years so I thought I was safe. On 5/5/21 I towed my 1965 VW (Engine removed) to their shop. My only real specifications were, larger valve heads, aftermarket cam and dual 40mm carbs. They appeared to know exactly what I had wanted as a weekend cruzer. Two weeks later I got a call and they said it was ready. I hoped in the VW and approx 7 miles away it started popping, backfiring, missing poorly and dieng a slow death. I limped it home and called them and had it towed back the next day. As of today, I have done this 3 times now, all same symptoms. So far they said they replaced the heads, carbs, 3 different distributors and a new gas tank. Each time they claim to have driven the car and all was fine. Today, I got 1 mile away and same dam thing, I called them. They towed car back and said it was electrical. Now, their telling me there must be a short in my existing harness. Does this sound plausible? My original 1300 was running just fine when I pulled it out. I'm at a loss at this point. I'm not sure if I should just get my $$ back and lick my wounds or let them proceed to fix their mess. Ed
@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
Wow Ed, sounds like you’re in a pickle. Sorry to hear about the issues that you’ve been dealing with. Unfortunately, without being there when the issue arises it’s difficult to say what it could be. If they are a reputable VW shop, they will get things sorted out I’m sure. Sometimes when you go to a bigger engine, little things can become an issue that weren’t there before. Engine could very well be perfectly fine. There could be an electrical issue. Could be a fuel issue as in not enough fuel going to the carbs, fuel pump getting weak as it runs longer or there could be a restriction causing the tank to go into a vacuum and not allowing fuel to be pumped. Next time it acts up, loosen the gas cap and see if it gets better. Again, it’s difficult to say without being there.

@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
Stock gears are quieter and work well with stock cam and smaller cams. When you go to the larger cams and need to run dual valve springs, straight cut gears don’t put the side load like the stock gears do.
@gregoryperkins21803 жыл бұрын
pistons arent stroker or none stroker. rod length is determined by piston pin location not the other way around. if anybody buys a new case the answer to every question about stroke or bore is build the biggest. i know pistons for under 82 stroke are said to be different but it just means different length rods.
@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
Same rods can be used on both stroked and non stroked engines. The wrist pin location on the piston determines if the piston is stoker or not…. Standard for no stroked, wrist pin located closer to the oil rings is a stroker piston. Also, depending on the manufacture, the piston skirt can also be altered for a stroker piston.

Hey Gary, I just bought a 67 bug and it came with 2 1600 dual port engines and the original 1500 engine. I am wondering how I would go about figuring out if these guys are still usable or whether the block/internals are bad (im brand new to this). I live in the DMV. I'm trying to build one of the 1600 blocks as large as I can while maintaining as much reliability/stability as possible. I know you can't build an engine that does it all (good MPG's, good power, reliability). My biggest goal is to just get something that has good torque/acceleration to get up to speed easily on these crazy tight onramps in MD, and decent MPG's if I want to drive it like a grandma. Also I don't want to be doing a rebuild every 6 months. I want the engine to last a long time. Maybe im asking for an engine that doesn't exist. I know its a lot of info, any help is appreciated.
@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
The only way to know the condition of the engines is to tear them down and inspect / measure everything. From there you’ll need to get the case machined for larger pistons and cylinders, possibly line bored and thrust cut, crank and rods worked over…. Hard to speculate without knowing or seeing what you have.
@KingDupue3 жыл бұрын
@@VWJawbreaker ya I'm just a beginner at this stuff and all the terminology is kinda confusing when guys start rattling of metrics. I guess I just need to research more about engines in general. In regards to this build. I'm just worried about reliability of the engine if I go above 2000cc. I'm sure there is a best combos list out there somewhere. Do bugger cylinder/piston size and crank size equate to shorter life span and with jawbreaker do you have to constantly fiddle with the compression and ratios to keep it running good?
@VWJawbreaker3 жыл бұрын
@@KingDupue it’s not so much the cc size as it is to the overall combo of the engine build. The engine is an air pump, the more air it can move the more potential for hp. You can build a big stroker and use a stock cam and stock heads. It won’t move as much air as it could if it had a bigger cam and heads, if that makes sense. Engine combos are a balance of every part, not a hodge podge of whatever. Jawbreaker does really well actually, even in the Florida summers. She’s putting out great hp and if I keep the pedal steady at 55-60, she got 26mpg last weekend on a 225 mile round trip.
