Memories. Back in 1994 I had a mk2, although only the 8 valve but nonetheless, a well built solid and great handling car. I test drove an 08 plate a few months ago and even with 200 hp it felt a heavy car, and very dull to drive compared to the mk2. Guess that's progress for you.

love all the vdubs, but this one is my favorite. actually, now that I'm older, have had faster cars, more fancy cars, you name it... I just want to find that one 92 16v that I can keep forever. Its my dream car.

im a mk2 golf GTI dealer and the first things i check are if the syncro has gone in second gear (it will crunch if it has), if the heater fan works, rust around the filler cap and windscreen wipers and noisy tapets. All these are common faults on mk2 gtis

Haha my dad still has his original mk2 CL from 1986 and it runs great - now I'm looking for the GTI version :D

I've had whole close but no cigar thing with this car... And one sweet 92 glx, always something though, either i'd lose my job, or money would be needed somewhere else... If I find a nice unmolested one (good luck with that) I promised myself I'll buy one no matter what. But you know how life is...:)

@veedub1989 They did in the US, i have seen a US mk2 GTI 16V and it had the 9A engine 2.0 16V 136hp i think (it was actually less powerfull than the standard KR engime 1.8 16V with 139hp , but it had more torque and power on low revs)

lol... better check out the Golf Limited... 72 hand built cars... around 210 BHP stock! AWD... Now that's the car of the history pages that can beat even a Golf mk4 VR6 on Power =D... Ofcourse you'll pay more for a Limited than for VR6... But who cares actually... an old mk2 GTI 8v or a mk4 R32... VW sporty cars will always turn out to be a classic, no matter what VW will try to do to them =)

Im exactly the same as you, same age and same sort of scenario, theres a 16v for salee here in New Zealand. (there much rarer here than in europe, maybe 5 for sale over the whole country, GTI's or GLI's etc). the only problem with this 16v is it has just over 300K on the clock. basically I just want to ask anyone if that should be an issue? it has service history and reciepts, but yea, need to know if a high km (300,000+) is an issue for reliablitiy and performance?

wich gti u think its better? i have 20 years old and my dad is going 2 buy me one, I like mk3 or mk4 (mk3 only I like cuse it have more HP 2.0L and electrical sunruf) but he loves mk2 :/ wich one u recomended 2 be my first car :D ty :)

well.....the problem is I live in mexico and here isnt powerfull GTI of mk2 (just the 1.8L 105Hp :S) and manual sunruf.....we never get g60 edition or disiel editions or 2.0L engine :/ thats other reason I want a newest GTI (cuse engine sunruf etc) but I dont know cuse well mk3 its more heavy than mk2 and mk2 still getting the minirocket nickname omg =(.....

listen you peenchoods! The 8v + 16v. No matter what engine you have you still have a cool car! The 16v is better when it comes to resale. Its a much more powerful engine (although its still slow compaired to todays 1.8's) Ohh and dont get me started about OAK GREEN -WORST MK2 COLOUR EVA! haha Bright blue metallic FTW! corsa boy... Yours may be faster but i think you need to get your facts right before slating. YOUR car looks like a chav charriot. Who races these days? YOU CHAV!
