As a VW enthusiast I usually am all for mods and engine swaps but as I go Cars and Coffee events and cruises, I have really come to appreciate seeing the unmolested examples of Mk2 16v's, Wolfsburg & Trophy Edition Jettas ect. And if you go on sites like Bring a Trailer...these are the cars that actually fetch decent money. My vote is; if it's a special (rarer model) keep the purity. All the other cars in the barn are going to have endless modifications done to them. Keep one as an ode to the original German design team of this brand we love so much. My 2 cents.

I feel the same way! Maybe it’s because of my age and increasingly greying hair but just not seeing cars like these anymore almost makes me feel like it might be part of my obligation to save some of the rarer ones, seeing other rarer one saved makes you feel good inside you know!?! But it’s time to find out!! New video is now live!! Appreciate the continued support as always!! Cheers

Recent subscriber. Great content!! Keep up the good work! I speak ME7 quite well, so I'm intrigued by your intended use of the ME7 2.0 ECU. My curiosity is that ME7 uses throttle inputs, load calculated with the MAF, and other things that don't seem like they would necessarily be easy to integrate into a carbureted setup. Don't get me wrong, because I'm in no way saying it cant be done, I just know there will be complications. I personally take the nay-sayers input as a challenge to make it work, if anything, just to prove them wrong. I don't know who Dave is, but if I can be of any assistance in this endeavor, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand to make it happen!!
@06atechnik643 жыл бұрын
Also... Do some research on the guy that put a 16v head on a mk4 2.0 Jetta wagon. 16v head with ME7 management. There's some things in that forum thread that might give you some ideas. Particularly for a cam sensor, and its much more simple than rebuilding your bottom end with ABA bits.

Hello from Portugal My prediction is that it will be a scirocco mk1 5 speed. If it is, please keep it original. I have a vw golf gti mk1 that you can see here in the photo is from 1982, and because I broke his engine in 1996, a 1.8 16v engine was assembled and, coriously, although in Portugal this mechanic never been commercialized,and as a digifiz daschboard. today I would have kept the original engine. Now let's see the other opinions. Greetings and congratulations on your channel

I recently viewed your previous videos on the abf clone engine. You mentioned the intermediate shafts could not be swapped because the keyway on the pulley is different. So how are you pulling this off?
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
I did?? Lol man o man, maybe I was referring to the pulleys on the intermediate shafts meaning you can swap the shafts AND pulleys but you cant swap the shafts without swapping the pulleys because they are keyed differently. Meaning when I go back to the Aba intermediate, I’ll have to go back to the Aba intermediate pulley as well. Now I’ll have to go back and check what I said lol. Hope I didn’t confuse you on that one!! Really appreciate the support and thanks so much for your continued! Cheers

@@MysteryGarage I understand. But i believe the 8v and 16v use different size pulleys. (both teeth and width).

if it's this one (I don't see if for sale anymore) I would still swap it. it's cool, and "rare" but that doesn't mean you can't put a clean modern power plant in it
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha love it!! Have to wait and see wont we.... well i do lol!!

My first thought is to keep it stock and have a collector car, but would that mean it wouldn't see much street action? But also could you just go Stock for the not engine parts and have that swapped engine? So looking stock until you open the hood. Yeah tough call. My Mk1 Rabbit is staying slow stock until it dies or maybe I get a really good find on a TDI. I do have the option of a 1.6L Mk2 engine swap which will not make it any faster, per se, but is newer. But It also means I could find a rolling shell and throw it in that and build a car for and with my son.

i just dont understand why anyone would voluntarily choose carbs when there are so many accurate fueling options available lets face it a carb is not much more sophisticated than a bucket with a nail hole in the bottom sad to see this but really like the channel , just mechaniced to much carbed stuff and love a rock solid efi and a solid state ignition
@MysteryGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha oh I know, totally understand where your coming from, and I’m not arguing that carbs are better in the slightest... This is my personal “Dream Car” build, a car I’ve wanted to build for years and a set of screaming, throaty carbs have always been on that list! So while I’m taking that plunge and accepting my fate, I’d like everything around them to be as sophisticated as I can get to make up any ground I’m “choosing to lose” by choosing to go the carb route! Hope that makes sense? I know I’m starting with a limp lol. But I want all the carb sounds! Appreciated he support and thanks for the comments!! Cheers

If it’s as rare as it sounds I’d say restore it. That said if you mod it in such a way as to be reversible, and you keep everything you’ve removed, then no real harm. Just don’t go hacking it up, that’d make me a sad panda.
