The first car to have the center airbag was the new Honda Jazz. However the airbag in the new Yaris in my opinion works way better than the one in the ID.3. Just take a look at the crashtest video of the current Yaris uploaded by EuroNcap here on KZbin. It reduces the lateral movement of the passenger more efficiently.

wow that car did really well in the side pole crash test there was barely any deformation at all
@Robert-cu9bm4 жыл бұрын
No deformation isn't good, that means all impact forces transfers directly to the occupant. You need some to absorb the energy.
@alkri19354 жыл бұрын
It isn’t really that much crumble zone from theside of the car to the occupants, so i think it did very Well.
@simonm14474 жыл бұрын
It's the battery case which absorbs most of the energy. The center of gravity is low and the floor is quite stable. You can also see this at the Model 3 crash test. ICE cars can't do this, their floor is not that stable
@Robert-cu9bm4 жыл бұрын
@@simonm1447 Low centre of gravity only helps to stop roll overs. Crumple zones is what protect passengers. And if ICE cars can't do that, please explain how they often beat EV's in crash tests.?(the physical crash, not avoidance) Volvo in particular.
@simonm14474 жыл бұрын
@@Robert-cu9bm if you keep the center of gravity low most of the forces in a pole impact are absorbed by the floor, because the chassis don't tend to,, start rolling'' around the length axle. That's the reason why the roof is penetrated very little. You can also see this with other EVs like the Model 3. You don't really have a crumple zone at the side of the car, a pole which penetrates the cabin can kill you. If the side stays widely intact the airbags can protect you. The floor of a gas car is much less stable, because it has no massive reinforcement like EVs have, and because of the higher center of gravity it starts to roll over over the length axle (typically it touches the pole first at the floor section) which causes higher forces on the roof section. In a front crash you have the advantage of a a longer crumple zone, because you don't have a long, massive engine block in front of you which can't be compressed.

VW’s are good safe little cars. I just got my first VW ID.4 - No crash test ratings were on the sticker as it was too new. So I was curious to check online. My Mom’s best friend was in a bad accident in a Jetta many years back. She drifted off the road and went under a semi. Ripped the roof off. Luckily she ducked down which saved her from imminent death. German cars are little vaults. With how crazy people drive you want something that’s safe and well built.

In frontal collisions, I have noticed that the child sitting in the rear seats suffers a kickback that is too strong for the cervical vertebrae, causing them to rupture and serious consequences such as paralysis, despite the fact that the pretenders of the seat belts come into action, if there were airbags placed behind the passenger and driver seats , they could greatly reduce kickbacks.
