This car looks beautiful and a whole lot better than many cars, especially as it's not an SUV! What I'm really impressed with is the boot. It's not a Saloon boot, but a sloping roofline hatchback like the Skoda Octavia! I wonder if this platform will be used for a Skoda EV hatchback like this car?! Well done VW! This is awesome!

Thanks for the quick overview Vicky. It's good that you can now see the heater controls in the dark but I wish that they had brought back physical buttons. I like the minimal display in front of the driver though just showing what you need. Once again we have a solution to a problem that to me anyway doesn't exist and that's touch screen vent positions, it's just more to go wrong but I guess we'll see this sort of 'solution' in other cars in the future just like the electronic hand brake of more than a decade ago. Style wise its OK but I would miss a rear wiper, without a spoiler and low rake this window cold get mucky quite quickly. No I do not want to fidget in a touch screen to show a rear camera after all we have a rear view mirror. Apologies if this sounds like a rant, it's not meant to be as the car get's a lot of things right but still has niggles like all cars. Many thanks for sharing..

One of the main virtues of the ID7 is that it is "Extremely quiet and refined to drive". This is a very subtle and intangible quality, important to many people, but not to everyone. If you are one of the people who care about "extremely quiet and refined", then the ID7 might be the car for you. The ID7 is the opposite of the Teslas in many ways, which have tons of power, but aren't particularly comfortable.

This car has so much advanced tech which helps to keep normal people from buying a car as it's so expensive and helps to make it an unaffordable risky project for repairs as a second hand owner, especially with that battery. Mission accomplished for our WEF politicians, except now they just need to ration and make more expensive ICE vehicles too.
@nniklask
@nniklask Жыл бұрын
you know that most of the tech is set as standard for all cars by law now? plus prices have been going up anyways due to inflation. But look at it from that side, how much would you have to pay for a brand new ICE phaeton back in the day? exactly the same as you do for an ID7.

It's funny seeing people complaining about the price when it has more interior space than a Model S with supposed similar range and way cheaper than an EQE/i5 (granted it doesn't get all the luxury/goodies you get in a Merc or BMW). It'll be the cheapest EV in it's size class. Y'all want everything for 30k. Buy the car in your size/price range.
@ViewBothSides
@ViewBothSides Жыл бұрын
LOL at the 'luxury' touch areas on the flat panel instead of tactile switches/buttons. Two predictions: (1) the 400+ range marketing push is just hype and RL the car will struggle to achieve 300, (2) sales will disappoint because the luxury claim is too weak.
@ScubaSteveCanada

They need better battery tech to achieve 400+. No price parity for a few years, at least.

Your claim is subjective. The interior of this car is one of the best interior for an EV of that price range. Maybe we watched the different videos ?
@ViewBothSides
@ViewBothSides Жыл бұрын
@@jonpetter8921 lol yes maybe we watched different videos.There are Mercedes, BMW, Genesis and other brands the ID7 will be competing with and the ID7 will have more space but given what I saw in this video the ID7 won't be comparable in terms of the interior. You could reasonably say the ID7 has the space of an EQE but it is cheaper and has a lower quality interior, or it's the same price as an EQB but is bigger and has a lower quality interior. I'm sure the ID7 will be good value and owners will love it but IMHO the luxury tag-line was mainly an aspirational suggestion from the VW marketing dept.

@@ViewBothSides The ID 7 beat all those cars in range and price not to mention practicality and at the same time full of smart techs standard like the HUD. Also i don t agree with the "lower quality interior" compared to cars in its price range= EQE, i4,.EV6 to be honest Tesla has nothing to offer against this in that category.

Whilst I’m an EV advocate and drive one I’m really worried that cars like this aren’t doing EV adoption any favours. I used to drive a Skoda Superb Estate (diesel) which was an excellent car - loads of space and very comfortable. It was £27k brand new and a high spec. This ID7 which is pretty much the same size, for any decent spec/range is going to be upwards of £65k - that’s way more than double the Superb or any Passat. Even if you look at the high performance Superb/Passat its massively more expensive. Totally out of reach for most people. I thought price parity was coming but by the looks of things VW aren’t anywhere near it. Sorry but can’t see this working for them.

There is a awful lot of cars on the streets these days mainly because ICE cars became rather cheap now in comparison with EVs.... but agree, with EVs so expensive, people will more tend to buy ICE cars next decade. If you look at MB for example... they sell for 120-200K € now with the new EV models, rather than 50-100K with ICE models, that is crazy...

For those of you complaining about charge time remember that you're comparing it to gas vehicle which took decades to be where they are today. EVs need the same grace and time to improve the charging technology of these fairly recent vehicle. I expect the technology to quickly improve now that it's proven that there is money to be made in that market with the likes of Mercedes and others joining the mighty Tesla. My only complaint about some EVs is the overly futuristic designs some of these cars are adopting. Take a regular design love by the masses and turn it electric, no neeed to create some cartoonish design

Still not convinced by EVs, the range is getting better but charging times aren't, and the amount of money spent on infrastructure should be spent on sustainable fuels, that would be a better option in my opinion.
@JOO-qk8gq
@JOO-qk8gq Жыл бұрын
efuels are trash. They will always be more expensive then charging an ev and the range of you`re combustion engine car will be much lower then most of the evs. Efuels don`t have a high energy density and if so there still to expensive to sell to the bright mass. The argument that efuels arent fully developed yet also doesnt count because you could say the same thing about evs. And at the end its clear the a fully developed ev is better then a compustion engine with efuels. It just fells like most people can`t accept changes which aren`t in there power.
@thismanagain
@thismanagain Жыл бұрын
@@JOO-qk8gq it has always been said that the more money is spent on E fuels, the cheaper it will become. I agree that ICE vehicles do not have the range of EVs, but the charging speeds compared to filling up a tank is horrendously slow. And it's not about accepting EVs or not, but you cannot rely on just one type of vehicle. EV, ICE and even Hydrogen need to be available to the masses.

Apple figured out decades ago that a software system should be designed for the dumbest person in the room. This especially applies to when you are driving. Apparently expectations at VW are still too high. At least they fixed the awful interior design of the ID4 and they added more powerful motors. The shiny black door handles, binnacle surround and main screen looks cheap in the ID4. Really cheap. And the software is awful.

This looks a better EV effort from VW but to be honest I can't see who is going to buy this car. History has taught us that large VW sedans look anonymous and inoffensive but more importantly, don't sell well. A step up in quality is not going to be enough to tempt buyers into a an expensive VW sedan, otherwise our streets would be lined with Phaetons....and they are not (not in the UK anyway). Deeply suspicious claims about range aside, the likely price point puts it into an image conscious market, one that cares about looks and that the number of window switches equal the number of windows. I know looks are subjective but I don't think it has enough going on to go up against BMWs, Mercs, Teslas etc etc. to tempt their buyers away.

@@rasherbasher8203 I thought the same thing, my friend, then I bought a Model 3 Tesla earlier this year which totally changed my perspective on EV. Very nice auto and I must say, with my 268 Miles of range, the issue of range anxiety is really non existent in real world application. As a daily driver, I come no where near close to using up my range in a single day. Just plug in at night and the next morning she's got a full charge. For road trips, Tesla has done an excellent job at building a super charger network. I suppose when the internal combustion engine first came out more than 100 years ago, I'm sure plenty of folks were worried about running out of gas. That problem has been easily solved. The same will apply to EV cars. As an after thought, I have noticed that I do 80% of my charging at home with my own wall charger. That's not something that can be done with an ICE vehicle.

There is no new technology in this vehicle. They are just copying features and functions from Tesla. Things that Tesla has already had for years now. The gimmick is they are putting a giant battery in it to get range. I hope people who buy this vehicle don’t clog up Tesla charging stations when they find out all other charging stations suck. Charging this at home will be expensive due to the giant battery. It’s slow. It’s really heavy and long term I am sure there will be plenty of bugs that will require a trip to the dealership to fix. To put VW and luxury in the same sentence is a funny joke. They’re in the same league as Toyota. This is just meh 🫤 I would never buy one.
