Mat has to be the happiest man alive right now. It shows in his work. The level of humor he puts into these nowadays is on another level. It almost feels like am watching one of those Netflix comedy specials and totally forget its a car review. We called these 'combi' buses back in the 90s. I've vague memories of that rubber thingy and this video brought them right back! Cool car though

As a former flat rate mechanic at VW & MB dealers and independent shops, my $0.02 worth is that VW should make it into a hybrid to solve the range issue and sell it as the VW SuperBus. And maybe make a high margin version with crazy power and call it the VW SuperBus Plus. (Complete with a multi sport roof rack. Surf City USA lol.) This is cool but doesn’t go far enough. -Matt’s dad Wanted to be an automotive engineer; ended up becoming a computer engineer. But still a gearhead.

The ID Buzz should have 3 individual seats in the back and 3 iSO fix points. One of the reasons you would buy this type of vehicle could be because you have more than 2 kids. The Sharan had these features... It needs a longer range too. A nice looking car otherwise. Great review Mat!

I love the ID buzz, but for that amount of money I would expect some more premium features, specially the infotainment and some of the trimming. The trunk is huge, but the double floor solution is kind of a DIY looking one. No vents in the back??? And there should be a powerful 220V outlet, ao you can power stuff directly from the car battery. I really like it, but it's overpriced and short on quality in bits and pieces here and there. I will definitely wait longer, so that batteries get to another level of longevity and range, and some of this trims are improved. Great review Mat, as always!!

It is a bit of shame that the Japanese manufactures don't introduce their MPVs from Japan. They are really very practical. Even though the ID Buzz has some features which exists in Japanese MPVs, it is still a long way to be as practical as them, but tbh the ID Buzz really looks sooooo cool!

Just would like to add a big thanks to make these videos kid friendly to the point that my 4 Year old loves to watch them as they are so full of "kid-like" gestures and reactions. Funny enough to also make me giggle ! (not a boring road test !) As for the car (haha), total coolness indeed, this is in my opinion, like many below, the highlight of this vehicle, super practical and simple. Pricy ?! Yes, I guess Japanese will make their own cheaper version with all the bells and whistles, but it is a Wolks afterall, they are always in between the cheap and the luxurious but closer to the luxurious "feel". Congrats again to allow me to watch a "guy" show with my little ones. Keep it up.

I absolutely love the ID Buzz and I reckon its a future classic! That being said, for a fully electric vehicle that is VW's latest creation, I would have like to see more options - bigger driver display, bigger & better infotainment system, the option to add screens in the rear, more interior and exterior colour options, opening rear windows, a big moon roof, 180 degree rotating seats and maybe even a split tailgate too. Just think they missed some tricks there really.

Coming from a VW T4 owner and being a part of the Camper fan base, I know there are a lot of purists that hate on this, however, I'd happily see myself in one of these in the years down the line, it ticks all the boxes of what it's bloodline great grandad did from the beginning. Can't wait to see how the custom campers will look, let alone what the in house version will be like. Very much has grown on me a lot, saw one at BusFest in Malvern a few months back, and adored it!

Hi Mat, great video as always. There’s one thing I take issue with, not only with you but with the brands and other reviewers also: you get the most expensive and fully loaded cars that manufactures give you, yet always state the base version price of that model. In reality, especially with the German brands, it’s often time 10-20k more for a comparable car.

10:50 Reverse charge to you house is very useful thing when you have electricity only 8 hours per day (2 hours on, 4 hours off). When in winter heating doesn't work without electricity, don't have hot water because of that, and can't prepare meals on induction hob. Believe me, Ukrainian people know it! Your video is good!👍

I’m reminded of the ‘new’ Beetle and there is a real danger that this will go the same way. Apart from range issues and it’s ‘retro cool’ (doubtful). The price tag alone will put people off and no doubt there will be a shortage and a queue of customers - for a short time. Also a pity VW don’t put some of this creativity into some of their other products. I’d like to try it, but not buy it.

Paying around $65,000 dollars for a range barely above 200 miles is very hard to justify on nostalgia! I suspect by the time this arrives in California, there will be more alternatives from BYD and other OEMs. Heck, when Hyundai Custo goes electric, it will easily kill ID Buzz for the masses.

The first VW bus in 1947 had a vent in the back where those three vent-ish decals are. The vents got bigger in the Type 2 in 1967 and during that models run, they were either behind or below the rear windows.... it is a nod to the historical design, but yeah, not particularly good looking... As far as performance goes, the original came with a 54 HP boxer, so wasn't powerful or fast in any way; it did 0-60 in never. It just didn't have the power to go that fast unless you were downhill with a strong tailwind. As far as the concept, I still say to be a useful vehicle, it needs more range and power choices. Sure 250 miles is decent, but at the end, you can't just fill up the tank and keep going. Trying to road-trip with 8-hour breaks to charge every 250 miles just isn't in anyone's plans.

So happy to see a major European car maker adopting this important technology finally.

Matt, you do not have to use those sliders for the climate control!! If you touch the heated seats icon it brings up the climate control and you can use the + and - to increase/decrease the temp, warm your seats and heat your steering wheel! The infotainment in my ID.3 (which I’ve had for 5 weeks now) never lags. In fact, I’d go as far as to say the menus are just as easy to navigate around as using an iPhone/iPad. The built in navigation system is just as good, if not better, than using google maps. The layout is super easy to use and personalising your ID is super easy to do (I love the ambient lighting in my car being purple!).

Yeah you can personalise it all day. Then get in the car the next day and it’s all reset back to factory - that’s how my 2022 id3 was. Had enough after two months and sold it.
