My first new car was a 1965 KG cabriolet. Loved that little beauty. My family outgrew it and I always vowed to own another. In 1990 I bought a beautiful red coupe from a retired nurse. I drove it from Tennessee to West Virginia, twice a year for ten years, (1400 miles round trip). Around 1997, I did a repaint, removing all the windows and replaced all the rubber, dropped in a 2100cc engine, www tires and a complete reupholstering including headliner and carpet. Around that time I bought a 1961 cabriolet junker and after three years of blood, sweat and tears it is a stunning beauty! Now, as I will soon celebrate my 85 birthday,I still say the KG is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. Thanks for the video!

I rescued my 69 ghia from a crusher in Oakland when I was 19... then dropped a Porsche 911s motor in it... I’m 39 now and despite all of the hot rods and modern sports cars I’ve owned over the years, nothing has ever came close to the aesthetics styling beauty and raw visceral performance of my ghia! She has and always will remain, my first and greatest love! 😍

I fell in love with the Ghia when I was ten years old. When I saw the neighbor washing her Ghia on the front curb, I thought to myself, when I grow up, THAT'S the car I want. Of course, they were out of production by the time I was old enough to drive. But I never lost my love for the Ghia and would always be thrilled when I saw one on TV, in the movies, or - rarely - out on the street. Finally - FINALLY! - I took serious steps to find one 30+ years later. Hit the jackpot with a smokin' deal and have been SO HAPPY ever since!! Love, love, LOVE my Baby Ghia!! 1969 Coupe. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I'm 81. The 1967 Karman Ghia I drove while in the Air Force in the late sixties is my favorite car ever. You could very easily heel and toe shift it. It had front disk brakes. Thanks to both I avoided killing a Mexican field worker blindly crossing the road in front of me. I was going 60. I dropped to stopped on a dime heeling and toeing the down shifts and using the front disk brakes. He just finished crossing. Don't think he ever noticed me. I adjusted the valves every 1000 miles, a very important engine need because it's air cooled and the time the valves are seated, transferring heat, is very critical. I also cheated and advanced the timing a little which made that 30HP respond instantaneously. I learned later in life as a VW employee that the 1967 "beetle" engine was totally devoid of defects. The only engine year ever to achieve that. I am so happy that I had one to enjoy in sunny southern California.

I would love to see it? Ours wàs a 69 Ghia. Body shop repaired rust in floor pan. It was stripped down to the steering wheel. Took off bumpers sent them to be rechromed after turning them into blades with buttons. Cool. Frenched in headlights, antenna and turn signals. License plated frenched in also. Gas tank flap was covered up as we had installed a 5 gal. Moon tank under front hood. Removed back seat and curved it with plywood covered with shiny dove gray Formica. Where bottom of back seat was, it was built into a box with a lid which gave storage. The car went to the upholstery shop next. Took 2 Porsche seats and upholstery man added head rests with wood up the sides to create a slick looking seat. The interior was dove gray seats, carpet, dash everywhere. The paint came from Honda around 82 color, Hampshire green. The paint was a color changing as it looked blue to light green. Picture of it outside always had clouds from above reflecting in it. Under the hood was done in dove gray leather where the moon tank was as along with extra goodies screwed down for boom dynamite. Every piece of rubber was replaced with new. The car was lowered, done in black laquer. It lowered to 5 in. Off the ground. It had a pink stripe on both sides ending in a starburst. Inside the back area he wrote Ghia in pink. In the engine compartment we covered the sides and behind engine. I was the engine detailer before shows. I used q-tips on the engine and wrapped myself to behind engine cleaning with a mirror in my hand. I used my mirror alot on the engine. Car had the exterior paint on bolts. Oh, hisband designed a console that came out of the dashboard to the floor and straight back between the seats. Oh God, you can get carried away. We spent around $23,000. Overhauling it. It had it's picture and writeup in Volkswagen Magazine when we drove to Ennis TX car show. Won many trophies in 5 states. made friends with the Volkswagen owners, saw most of them at each show. It is a fun thing to have a great car that people loved. It was a daily driver, as first we hauled it on a trailer. That night we washed and on leaned the car. At the hotel I spent most of the night watching it so nobody would try to mess it up. That does happen. We took our shoes off and had clean towels on the carpet. Keep on working and you will have the joy of your life, make friends, and don't let anybody touch it. We were getting close to having to tedo the car. Husband went to a Barrett auction. When he drove on the platform the bids were low I shook my head no and he drove off. Then a man came up behind me and said meet me outside. We did. We sold the car for $7,000. The man was taking it to Kansas City to put in his showroom. I rubbed the paint on front fender and told it goodbye. Walked away and did not look back. Couldn't. N

I do agree with you on that it has beautiful lines and it is a classical design.

Was not stolen the Design is pure Ghia..simular but still not stolen
@schnellfahren9112 жыл бұрын
Design wasn't stolen. Ghia designed it, marketed it to Chrysler and they passed. Then they went to VW, and they passed. Some luck and a push internally made it happen for VW. So, yeah, not quite historically, but yessir, sweet little rides.

nice video, but most of the slammed and hot-rodded Ghias are just fugly. Some customization's fine, but come on - it's a 50s car (some'd say a work of art), not a vacuum cleaner. why the high % of slammed Ghias in comparison to contemporary Porsches and Alfas?
@ThreePedalGarage4 жыл бұрын
When I select videos I look for cinematic videos most cinematic vidoes just happen to have modified cars. People with non modified cars don’t seem to have interest in doing cinematic videos. Most videos that have stock cars are either for sale videos or reviews that have shaky footage.
@keeperofthelostpipe4 жыл бұрын
@@ThreePedalGarage no offence meant, you did a nice job of portraying the Ghia. 😉 been driving one since '93 and usually I think 'to each his own', but as you say... not many originals in cinematic videos.

The Karmann Ghia is one of those cars that just suits the lower stance, they do look a little bit awkward and goofy in standard height. My opinion of of course

He’s a kid? It’s serious Italian styling 50|50 German engineering~ Ghia designed it, Chrysler never acted upon on it. Ghia designed automobiles as would be eventually be realized. it came. I own a 72 Ghia Its center torsion bar balance the fluid dynamical forces as it drops slowly its height increasing velocitiy. The topological surface of the seamless shell single styling carves through the air squeezing downward then out the most slippery pathway. Add up the sum of the formed eddy’s-square it, add it to the forward momentum a nice gain of 1/3.01415 quanta repeat. Supremum~|nfinum Continuum

The first thing you say about 'stolen from Chrysler' is offensive. Get your facts right, if you want to talk about design houses. Ghia (Italian Design House) did MANY body designs, NONE of them 'stolen'. Ghia is Ghia, not owned by VW, Chrysler, or ANY other. I am glad Ghia did this design for VW, and I've owned a VW Karmann Ghia for several dozen years. BUT, you need to be acutely aware of history, if you wish to hold the interest of viewers. I, (and I might say 'we') don't need any revisions to the lines ONLY Ghia has contributed to Coach Building in the automobile genera.
