Hey everyone! In todays video we take a look at a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit w/ a 2.5l engine. Some of you may remember, I made a video with this car about 2 years ago. The customers complaint was that the speedometer did not work and the instrument cluster had several warning lights illuminated. In that video we found that the vehicle had a faulty ABS module however because of the cost of a replacement module, the owner did not want to replace it. So the car sat for almost 2 years before he finally decided to have me fix it. So in this video we attempt to repair the original module and we also answer the question "can we program a used ABS module on this VW"?

Eric I know you have to do what’s good for your family. However I have missed your videos very much and always look forward to the next one! I have learned so much from you and I am a semi retired technician. I actually worked as a mechanic in the 1980s and most of the cars that I would see were from the 70s I have spent the last seven years learning from you and Oz! Thank you guys so much for sharing your knowledge and God bless your families!

Air bag light is most likely related to the airbag connectors at the seats. It's a known problem on the MK5 Chassis. (High Resistance - there use to be a campaign to fix this back in the day) Sometimes a disconnect and spray with Deoxit will resolve, sometimes you'll have to install a new connector. VW Vortex or similar forums will have the info. Great content and I appreciate your effort to share knowledge with others.

@@kbaisley4947I have a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta with 2.0TSI. Currently battling with ABS pump/module no communication fault codes. If I get an ABS module/pump from the junk yard that matches the same part number, will it be plug and play like this example??? I have an OBDeleven scan tool but I’m not sure how to pull the coding off the old abs module and put it into the donor module.

@@ivanvega2821 from what I remember, it should be plug and play. I believe this video covered that if I remember right. Have not watched it since I made the comment. As far as a scanner, you need vcds if you stick with vw products. It's the only one that works the best

Originally when the Tier 1 automotive module suppliers (mainly from Germany) wanted to do press fit connector pin attach style, the story was the technique would only be used on low cost non-critical control modules like HVAC or Radio, etc. Well, obviously this no longer holds true, and the technique of the pressed fit pins for many lead OEM engineers, required the pins be soldered for critical systems from the supplier. So, somehow this particular module did not have an experienced systems engineer on the component qualification. The first step is to verify the module power supply is working. The Schottky Diode is most likely used for Reverse Battery protection on the front end of the supply. You can check the diode when it is in circuit live, if drawing current you should see a voltage drop. Doing diode continuity test in circuit is not advisable. Then the next step is to determine the power supply topology and what voltage rails should be present. For the microcontroller you can find the pinout online, and confirm you have the proper supply voltages at the IC. Any power MOSFETs that are not part of the CAN interface should be saved for last. If the MOSFET is used in the supply than it should be checked. From looking at the PCB, to make CAN work, you only really need the microcontroller powerup and the CAN interface IC operational.

One thing I have noticed about hard drives in computers: If they become defective, you can purchase a new hard drive manufactured the same year and preferably within 3 to 4 weeks of manufacturing date (info on label of HD), same manufacturer off ebay and replace the defective hard drive logic board with the new logic board and the drive is up and running with no lost data.
