The language is predominantly South African English with random Dutch Afrikaans words thrown in here and there! What a bizarrely delightful dialect!

What do you mean "Dutch Afrikaans"? That's not an actual thing. Get it right, please.

@@vanzyli Afrikaans IS derived from DUTCH, Einstein!!! It's like saying Cajun French, Pennsylvania Dutch, or Texas German!!! Dutch Afrikaans!!!!

@@wackyruss It is called Afrikaans. It is NEVER ever referred to as Dutch Afrikaans. It developed from Dutch, German, French, English, Malay, Portuguese, et cetera. But it is called Afrikaans. It is absolutely not in the same category as "Cajun French". It is a daughter language of Dutch, not a variant of Dutch, not a dialect of Dutch, etc. It is a distinct language in itself. If you study Afrikaans at a South African university, it is typically at the "Departement Afrikaans en Nederlands" (Department of Afrikaans and Dutch) - note the AND in there. And you can be as snide as you want to be with your little Einstein jibe. You don't know what you're talking about in this case. "Nederlands en Duits is dus selfstandige tale, en hulle is selfstandig omdat hulle elkeen 'n vaste sisteem het. Ook Afrikaans, Engels, Zulu, Xhosa en Tswana in Suid-Afrika is selfstandige tale wat duidelik te onderskeie is van mekaar". Botha, TJR, Ponelis, FA, Combrink JGH & Odendal FF. (Red.) 1989: INLEIDING TO DIE AFRIKAANSE TAALKUNDE p. 25

@@wackyruss Russell... I don't know where you are from, or why you think you're an authority on this matter. I am a native speaker of Afrikaans for more than 45 years. I also learnt to speak Dutch in 2009/10 - that's right, I had to LEARN to speak that language. Furthermore, I studied Afrikaans linguistics at university. French, Italian, Spanish are predominantly based on Latin... yet nobody calls them Latin French, Latin Italian or Latin Spanish. In the very same manner NOBODY refers to Afrikaans as Dutch Afrikaans. The term simply does not exist. I don't understand your obstinate insistence on this issue. You are incorrect. Your error has been pointed out to you by someone who actually knows what's what. Best just accept that you made an error, innocent as it may have been. Doubling down while trying to insult someone with vastly more relevant knowledge on the matter, and inferring that they're stupid, is really not the triumph you might think.
