Great video! Love my 2018 SEL Premium R Line. Headlights are indeed amazing. Infotainment is excellent, seats are comfy, fit and finish are excellent quality. Excellent space, tons of room. Only issue is the recall for the ambient lights around the sunroof. Had to be disabled by dealer until a fix is found. Apparently they could short out and cause a fire. But, very pleased overall.

Hi Ryan...great 'real world, real person' review of the Tiguan - you made me chuckle quite a few times there pal! I'm almost deffo going to the Tiguan from my current Skoda VRS - basically coz the missus finds the Octavia 'too long' to park etc....(even with Front & Rear sensors) ... .... As you said, after having some of the gizzmo's, like the Adaptive Cruise (a 'must' - combined with the DSG box), Panoramic SR, lane assist etc...you feel like you can't do without them - yet most of VW's competitors only offer them as 'extra's'. Skoda, SEAT, etc - being part of the VW group - are offering most of these 'extras' as standard, so it's a no-brainer for me as to which one of these three marques is next on my shopping list!! My only dilemma is which version to get - you didn't mention the 'poke' that the 150ps version has...and coming from the S3, I'd have thought that would have been a biggie for you...is it enough?? In today's 'Big Brother' world, of Speed camera's, Ave Speed camera's etc....it makes you wonder if it's actually 'worth' having a super-duper speed machine...what's the point?? As long as it's got enough 'ooomph' to whiz past the odd slow-coach you come across now 'n' again on a B-road...that should be enough!

MogadishuMan After speccing the R-Lines equivalents..(like the seat attecca and Skoda Karoq/Kodiaq) they dont come in a whole lot cheaper than the R-Line. Which for me doesnt make sense as the depreciation on the equivalents is going to be way worse! Now the poke in the 150ps is fine, coming from a S3 to a car like this wasnt too bad, as you dont expect the Rline to fly like the Audi... as its bigger and it doesnt give you that Gokart feel! As you said in a world of the nanny state and health and safety gone mad, for me have a 310hp+ car just wasn’t a good idea anymore! I have had no regrets with the 150, its plenty!

I am in the same situation and have test driven the SEL/R Line versions and the BMW X1. The R Line has a very firm suspension v's the SEL which has a much more comfortable ride. The BMW X1 sits in between the R Line and the SEL in terms of ride comfort. When it comes to the bells and whistles the VW beats the BMW hands down unless you are prepared to buy a lot of add ons.

Loved the details in the video. I have to say I agreed with almost everything you said. Love the stickers as well and wondered what the stories behind them are. Was at the local dealer last week looking at the Tiguan Match 1.5 and like you said it’s a handsome car that isn’t in your face which I like but boot space was my issue and the interior dash area wasn’t captivating I have to say. Only other thing I am now curious about is how the 1.5 petrol pulls the big Tiguan so I might go down for a test drive.

At the time you posted your video you said that you had had it for a little while and had done approx 17-18,000 miles. Dominic Campbell now on 24k miles and no mechanical gremlins.... but Im having issues with infotainment again. It keeps crashing, but its due a service and a update! So should be all ok once looked at. I am looking to downsize the car at the moment, but that will be discussed in my next video

Nice review mate. It's a good looking well designed vehicle. Interesting to hear your feedback re boot size. Half the reviews don't mention that the 615 litres is with the rear seats pushed right forward. Have you done that, if so how is the boot space then? Can kids sit in the rear seats with them forward? Jacob Sullivan its the space with the seats up in its regular position. I just find the boot a little annoying, for the size of the vehicle. Moving the seats forward. Doesn’t give much benefit. However cabin space is great for 4 adults!

Were you satisfied with the stock sound system? I don't want to butcher it with an aftermarket set up, just wanted your thoughts on if you were happy with it? Cheers!

Alex Hollis the DynAudio is very good, however the biggest surprise is how good the stock system is! I love my tunes and I not once thought the stock system was lacking! If you can get one with it... score.....but honestly I would not worry too much 👍🏼

Great reviews pal what's the 0-60 on the 150bhp model. You also mentioned the petrol version is smoother and quicker so given the option now would you have preferred having the petrol.

John Birks its just under 9 seconds, so not too bad considering the weight for only 150ps! I will only buy petrol now, as the milage and trip type I do is short and around town driving. The petrol Tiguan is quiet and smooth and perfectly suited to short or long journeys. Diesels are dying slowly, times are changing. Very much looking forward to seeing the ID4 electric Suv next year 👍🏼

What was it like going from an S3 to this performance wise? I'm in the same boat with a pre face lift S3. Going to test drive an 240 BiTDI version though. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Good video BTW.

Beckford the thing is, is that this car is setup so differently to the an S3. So the moment you get in the Tiguan, in encourages you to relax and slow down, its like a calm drive.... but because it feels so solid and because of its incredibly well setup suspension. Even when Giving it a little boot round the twisty stuff, its surprisingly composed. As for engines.... as long as you don’t care about MPG ...the 235ps petrol is probably going to be the most performance orientated. (But keep in mind what I said above) The BiTDI 240ps is great because its got the Torque..... which is what you really want in a car like this....as it adds to the solid overall feel.... plus pulls its weight better! The only true way to decide is to have as long as test drive as you can and keep in mind that its not going be like an S3 .... but very good in its own charm!

SDartmoor its so buttery smooth! I wouldn’t go back to a manual car now, it makes driving so much nicer and especially when you drive on adaptive cruise control! All you have to do is stear

Just came across your Tiguan vids as researching to buy one. Great stuff. Down to earth honest review. Thats us Berkshire boys for ya. Anyway I'm looking at 18/19/20 plate models with low mileage as I prefer to pick up a car that has lost some of that depreciation. A personal thing. I cover 16,000 miles a year so no brainer in a 2.0 diesel still for me. Looking at the top end of specs and torn between the SEL and the RLINE. Naturally the RLINE looks are more appealing, but was interested in your comments about the ride quality. Just how hard is it or would you say its not to bad considering? Thanks

I agree with you Ryan in every way you describe the R LINE 20 “ wheels Ride. And to have the Diesel TDI 2ltr 150 , I did loads of research on the petrol version to find it was not quite up to the job. I was glad I bought the R Line as it’s looks have hardly dated two and a half years on” But in the end you pay for what suits your pockets at the time. Thanks

Was just concerned about a harsh ride with the sports suspension which is apparent on the Juke so needed to decide between r line or sel. Agree also that the image of VW Tiguan has not aged either as it still appeals to me and has a timeless appearance.

Did you think about leather seats? With leather seats today you gat electric adjust seats and with the R-line trim seats that you have you don't get electric options. In my country 4motion option is 6000 euro extra so I will go for the FWD. Do you thin that I should leave something out from the spec and go for 4M? Great vid and thanks for answer!

Bassnos Tube depending on what kind of needs you have for 4motion. Impersonally think that a car this big should have it, even if you are never going off road. The leather and electric seats is a very expensive option and my personal preference is Cloth seats!

Just a small thing regarding your comments on boot space, the Tiguan is actually class leading. Only the BMW X1 is pretty close.

Well, if you need a bigger booth, go and get the Tiguan Allspace R-Line. That is what I did. I swap from a 2012 A4 Avant to that model with plenty of booth space and nearly the same look (but without the 3rd row which we don't need). And price update is absolutely ok... We will get it end of Feb 2019...

Hi Ryan, I thinking about getting this car next year we are a family of five all adults moving away from a 66 Plate Ford S-Max it is a great car but just not affordable to run at 36.7MPG and not a massive fan of Ford. I do fancy this car but just how big is the boot as will need room for a wheelchair and possibly a Scooter but it looks a great car and it looks fab. I would welcome some feedback. Alan Butterfield Hi Alan, The Tiguan is a big step up from a S-max in terms of quality. (Not saying its a bad car though) The boot space on this car is something I highly recommend going to look at and asses for yourself as It will give you the best idea. Its still sizable, but maybe for some not as practical as imagined!

This reply is probably too late. I had a 62 plate Smax Titanium x sport. Now I have a new Tiguan SEL. Quality is slightly better , yet worse in places. However Tig will not seat 3 average adults in back. Boot is a lot smaller. It is however more economical.

Jawaid Karim from what I remember that boot space on the 7 seat, is around the same sort of area (i think) ...you lose the underfloor space by 75% and when the seats are folded down. I think the floor sits a little higher.

Removing the third row of seats is a free option (in Sweden at least). Then the floor will be lower as well (in line with the regular Tiguan). And considering that the third row is more of a "nice thing to have if needed" it will be folded almost all the time anyway, which gives more room than the standard Tiguan even if the floor is about an inch higher. While I haven't gotten my Allspace yet (a couple of more weeks to go!) I don't regret getting it with the third row, not yet anyway. :)
