The Ohgi Minami team (except the captain) is referred to as 'punks' and get yelled at for not practicing because they're troublemakers at school that were always getting into fights. Them bowing to their captain at the end is like ..an extra show of respect that's out of the ordinary, I guess
@Revoltine3 жыл бұрын
The angle of the bow is key to the amount of respect you give towards the person. The lower it is, the bigger you think is the difference between your status. A very low bow as the team meant that they regard their former captain with very high respect. Genuflecting/prostrating means you deem yourself undeserving of that person's presence, hence it's only used when apologizing deeply or, in ancient times, when addressing royalty or your master.

Hinata eating katsudon (pork cutlet bowl) is actually somewhat of a thing in Japan (albeit choosing something this heavy for BF was hardly wise lol)! When you have a big match/exam/“battle”, it’s considered good luck to eat something with “katsu” in its name, because “katsu” means “to win” (like katsudon or a kit-kat, which in Japan is often read as “kitto katsu”, or “I’ll win this for sure”).

they did mention this a little earlier in the show, but the prefecture karasuno is in is the miyagi prefecture which is a smaller region in japan. that's why tokyo schools (nekoma, furukodani, etc) called them "country bumpkins." The tournament they are playing rn is the spring preliminaries and the winner of the whole thing will represent miyagi in the spring national tournament (which is the tournament hinata saw on TV in the beginning of the show). Because their prefecture is pretty small population wise compared to others, this tournament is single elimination and only one school represents the prefecture. The preliminaries in tokyo for example, because of its larger population, will have multiple representatives and will therefore not be single elimination.

I don't think he has a problem with the nickname itself unless he states so in a different scene than the Oikawa one and I haven't noticed. To explain something that went under even in the translation, at the beginning of the episode Hinata is sick because he ate too much Katsudon, though in the translation it is simply called "pork bowl". Katsudon is a dish that consists of a bowl of rice with a fried pork cutlet on top. Superstitious people eat it before an important event, e.g. exams or a job interview, because the word "katsu" can both mean "pork cutlet" and "to win".
@noodled61453 жыл бұрын
In the intro it still says Season 2 episode 10 (ep 11 has this too), and btw pork cutlet (4:40) aka tonkatsu, katsu can mean "to win", so it's a superstition to eat it before a test or game etc, unfortunately Hinata ate too many lol And the tournaments setup are 2 per year, the Inter-High, then the Spring tournament. No regular season or anything, so it's only 2 elimination tournaments per year. In your third year (last) you can do the Inter-High but you have to choose between staying on to do the Spring tournament like Asahi, Suga and Daichi did, or leaving to study for university instead, like the rabbit guy (the old Ohgiminami captain) did. 30:25 isn't some sexual reference, they're just eating bananas for carbs lmao

At first I didn't understand the banana line, but I figured out that Shimizu meant that since Tanaka is so energenic like a monkey, eating a banana is very fitting, since energetic monkeys are known to eat bananas. I'm guessing the translation made it sound weirder in English than in Japanese.

30:27 about Shimizu's comment on Tanaka - this translation always cracks me up. In context, Shimizu is saying that 'Tanaka matches the banana', as a joke that he resembles a monkey or a gorilla (his shaved head and explosive, funny personality also backs it up). So a better translation for this would be something like" bananas fit/ go well with Tanaka". I hope this made any sense for you coach!

Hey, coach, just letting you know that at 00:17 it says "episode 10" instead of 12. Thank you for putting up these videos every week.

16:33 Both! Ushijima is his last name, Ushiwaka is a nickname, combining Ushijma his last name and Wakatoshi, his first.

One thing I'd like to mention since you were talking about animation, you're not always animating in 24 frames per second. Animations will often only show one drawing every two frames, which would be known as animating on "twos." Depending on what's actually being animated, you'll see them switch between animating on twos and animating on ones (one drawing every frame).

I like the comment about those "weaker" teams being meaner that the powerhouses ones. It's probably because strong ones accept to share and learn with anyone that they are strong in the first place, they do not limit their own view and thus are able to learn more and from different people/teams.

Dang, we really have to appreciate all the work Coach Donny has been putting into these videos--the subtitles especially, cutting it out and putting it legibly on the bottom! Huge props, and thanks for all of the work you put into these

Japanese anime studios tend to animate on 2s or 3s (12 or 8 frames per second) to save time/money and then amp up the fps on critical scenes.

That banana thing confused me too. Then I read the manga and got it. In the official english trans in the manga Shimizu said “Something just fits about Tanaka holding a banana” meaning she was having inner thoughts about Tanaka and Gorilla similarities. It makes sense in the manga when you see how Tanaka was drawn.

I just realized that at 14:17-14:32 that a certain theme from season 4 was a variation of this one from season 2. I know other ost have stuck around with changes to them in later seasons but I never noticed this one.

Karasuno third years OP!! ❤️ They are caring and kind, supportive and helpful, mentally strong and inspirational.... All the current first years were so full of drawbacks but they helped them fit in the team and to fix their problems, without even having a coach for a long time.

Watching coach's reaction videos every week about haikyuu is just another reason for me to re-watch the show for the 6th time lol. Every episode never fails to get me teary-eyed and laugh at the jokes the characters are making if though I watched this a couple of times already. Great video coach!

Remember in the previous tournament gossip? When came the time to talk about Karasuno, most people couldn't even pronounce their name, calling them "Torino" (because of the spelling in Japanese), and when asking about Hinata people would go "I dunno who that is". NOW Karasuno has a full on "the team with a reputation" intro... Just pointing out, somethings ARE different now in this 2nd tournament! :D

I think the translation is slightly off "Tanaka looks good with a banana" i think it's meant as Tanaka looks right with a banana"... she's basically calling him a monkey.

By the way Coach, the tournament Karasuno is in right now isn't Nationals, it's the National qualifiers. There's a tournament in each region of Japan and the winner of each will go to Nationals. Just to let you know so you aren't confused.

Can’t wait for your reaction on the next opening!! It’s a lot of people’s overall favourite and the most popular one in terms of views on YT and listens on Spotify. The music is amazing and the visuals are also just breathtaking

The banana comment was a mistranslation. Kiyoko was basically saying the same thing as you did - that the look of sitting and eating a banana suits Tanaka, since he looks like a primate. It's meant as a joke.
