Thank you SO MUCH for this video. This is my first year playing and I’m already one of the oldest on my team and my coach just gave me my position like 3 days ago and out first game is today. On the court, everything goes blurry for me and my coach doesn’t play volleyball so I can’t really ask her any questions. The other players kinda intimidate me and seem annoyed whenever I ask to clarify something. So watching these videos is like a mini coach for me. I finally understand where to go and I know I’ll make mistakes but gosh I’m so happy I’ll be able to make changes and I won’t be confused all the time.

Very useful! Also, I got a question for you. Why is it that the first rotation is that way? (Meaning, setter 1, OH 2, MB 3...) The only thing I can think of is that this way you have your first 3 rotations with 3 hitters. Is it that or is it something else?
@colbertalembert476 жыл бұрын
Nicolás Alliaume, from what I understand, starting with this line-up maximizes for the setter the use of all the hitters. In that vein, and as a strategy, you would put the strongest of the hitters immediately adjacent to the setter (i.e., strongest OH in # 2 and strongest MB in # 6) so that when the setter is front row, s/he can use them. Technically and legally, though, the setter and other players can start anywhere (#2, #4, #3, etc.), and some countries like Brazil have done just so at some international matches.
@nicolasalliaume37086 жыл бұрын
Makes total sense. Thanks! Btw, great use of the tokens. I've been watching other videos where it's really hard to follow the switches when they all look the same. I wish there was a match with a team using 5x1 with everyone wearing different shirts.
@colbertalembert476 жыл бұрын
Nicolás Alliaume, you're quite welcome, and thank you! Heh heh...I hear you, and I was confused as well with what I saw out there, hence why I made this. I guess they keep the tokens the same color in other videos because rules require all players to wear the same jersey color (except líbero), but for educational purposes, I can see how it can be confusing.

I would like to know your thoughts on using the other service order, that is, with the setter following the outside hitter rather than the middle hitter; in 5-1 and also in 6-2. I came to think of these two variants as being either "natural" in the front row, or "natural" in the back row (as you have them in this video). Thanks for the clearly illustrated and calmly narrated video!
@colbertalembert477 ай бұрын
Glad to hear that you find it helpful! The line-up order is usually set as part of volleyball protocol and standard rules (i.e., setter, next to OH, next to MB, next to oppo, next to OH, and to MB). The service order, however, can be done with whichever player you'd like to start service with. Typically and traditionally, you start with the setter on the first service (5-1 or 6-2), to maximize the number of hitters in the front row. However, you can start service with the MB, or the opposite, etc., as part of strategic planning. With a 6-2 rotation, you'll always have 3 hitters in the front row, no matter who starts service.

Unfortunately I do not. I only have the diagram of the court I used. There are other videos on KZbin where the person indicates such stacking through a diagram, if that helps.

I have a question :) When the team serving in starting positions(stacking),why do opposite goes to position 2,and OH1 in position 4.Is it against the rules that they just stay at their starting positions.Can u explain that to me :)TNX 11:00
@colbertalembert476 жыл бұрын
@@Mr1888888888, sure. Briefly, when the team serves, by rule they have to rotate clockwise and maintain the order of the players as stated in the video. However, because of their specialized positions (hitters, setter, etc.), they go to their *designated* position as soon as the server hits that ball (i.e., they can move around the court freely however they want), but keep in mind, they are *specialized* players (OH almost always hits from left court, OPP almost always from right). That's how they build strength, strategy, and skill working from that side. The video explains it.

Why does the setter moves to the defense area, if he's supposed to set the ball, not to receive it?
@colbertalembert472 жыл бұрын
Once the rally starts, the setter moves to the defense area when s/he is back row because the setter is supposed to play defense first, setter second. S/he has to be ready to dig any possible attacks that may come in that direction. Otherwise, there will be a big hole in the right-back area, leaving the team prone to easy attacks from the opponent, continuously targeting that specific spot. If it's a free, easy ball coming over from the opponent, then the setter typically moves immediately to the setter area in the front row and lets the player center back cover him/her (usually, the player covering the setter is the back-row OH). Very often, the unfortunate mistake that many setters make is that they do *not* play defense -- focusing on setting exclusively -- and they do not cover enough ground in the right-back area, leaving a huge gap. While some professional coaches may strategically have another player in the back row covering the setter, I was groomed and trained to prioritize defense as a setter first, but everyone is different.

Is it legal that we will not switch the outside hitter and opposite hitter in front zone
@colbertalembert47Ай бұрын
The outside hitter and the opposite may switch sides once the ball is served and after all rotation rules have been followed, if it may strengthen the team during that particular rotation.
@chloejuarez1955 жыл бұрын
quick question do you use the staring lineup in a game or do you just start off with rotating 1
@colbertalembert475 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, it depends. After the referee does the coin toss at the beginning with the 2 team captains and the coin toss winning captain decides whether to start off serving or receiving, then the team players will stack themselves accordingly. If your question refers to whether the setter always has to start in zone 1 at the top of the game, then the answer is no. Traditionally, yes, that's typically where the setter starts. However, if you have a very strong server other than the setter, your coach may decide to start the service with that player in zone 1, so that means the setter could start off on zone 2, 3, 4, etc. to accommodate for that other player -- the strong server -- who will start the match in zone 1.

Correct.
@colbertalembert475 жыл бұрын
Granted that they should move to their base positions depending on what position they're playing and what particular rotation they're in (sometimes the setter will want a player to stay on that zone first before moving).

Can you explain why you wouldn't use the OPP Hitter as a passer in either of the 4th or 5th rotations? Why tuck them away?
@colbertalembert476 жыл бұрын
Andy Koski, that is just one of several options when it comes to defense, similar to whether you use 3 or 4 players to pass during serve receive. After creating this video, I've observed most teams favor 3 passers instead (less "crowded" and thus less confusion). Regarding oppo, a lot of professional teams at high levels opt to tuck him/her away, but keep in mind that may change in a minute (if the team is messing up passes, coach will rearrange stacking and have oppo pass).

What confused me most about this is that the team that I coach they don’t have the same starting lineup as this tutorial we always start out with a power serving not a setter
@colbertalembert476 жыл бұрын
That is also possible, if it is strategically best for you to do so, but from my experience and others I've seen, the setter typically starts as a server. However, any player can start off serving. I.e., Brazil sometimes follows your team's tactic with a power server.
