My dad worked for IAM (International Automated Machines) in Perrysburg in the early and mid-70s. IAM held at least 2of their company picnics there while my dad worked there. Nothing but very fond memories of the place. I think I rode the roller coaster more than anything because I could watch the cows in the pasture next to it while I rode. What a great little place that was!

My family had their reunions there back in the 70's and 80's. Usually had a tent/cover between the bridge and the dance hall building. Loved the red bridge back then, sad to see it now. Thank you for the memories.

I am Freda and Joe's niece from Missouri. Worked the park 84 & 85. The blue building was the Yum Yum.where sno cones, cotton candy and elephant ears were made. The shelter you pointed at thinking was part of the bumper cars was actually a bbq grill shelter. There were 12 total and hamburgers and hot dogs were cooked on those every weekend,1 for each company picnic. The chicken grill was massive and ran along the Maumee. Grandad Hofner and Uncle Art Griner were in charge of that grill. The screened shelter across the covered bridge housed food lines for all picnics. Options: BBQ chicken, pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans potato salad and cole slaw. Grandma Hofner, Aunt Freda and Gladys Vollmar made the sides for most of the years Hofner's owned it. The bumper cars were to the left of the Dance Hall with The Looper in between buildings. The sweet to the baked beans alot of the time was cotton candy that had stuck to the side of the barrel netting and I'll never give away the secret maull sauce that made the bbq chicken the best you ever sank your teeth into!

Below the Dance Hall was the main kitchen, dining hall and bar. Aunt Freda served up cheeseburgers, jumbo hot dogs, grilled cheese, fries, onion rings, sodas, chips, candy and soft serve ice cream. Grandad Hofner served 3 types of beer at the bar there.

Then allow me to say thanks for all the fun times. I can remember one year there was a potato sack race and my dad did it and he tripped. HE got mad and I just laughed. And when it was my turn I didn't have strong leg muscles. They tired out fairly quickly so I'd hop a bit then just shuffled along in the sack then hopped a bit more then shuffled and I did that back and forth until I made it to the end. I never won but I had so much fun. Hey was there ever a little rodeo there or could my memories been blending with others that I did in the summer? Because as a kid my family went to a lot of carnivals and rodeos and here. The good ole days when the city government cared about the people.

I had a cottage just west of the park at the top of the hill. The cottages were just down over the bank. The park was still open in 1984. I lease the land each year where the cottage sit.

I remember in either 1984 or 1985, i had the cottage just west of the park. It was one of the first real nice days in the spring & i was sitting in the cottage & my 2 boys were outside on the porch overlooking the river. I kept hearing my youngest yelling something but i was not sure what he was saying. I finally got up & walked out to see what he was yelling for, & come to find out an older man & 3 of his grandkids come over wire rapids in a small aluminum boat & a canoe. They lost it when they come over the rapids, & they were still a little west of us. My neighbor to the east of me yelled & said come on. He had one of his small boats ready to go into the water but no motor. We shoved it in& grabbed a set of oars. The water was very swift, & the older guy was in the water hanging on to the side of his boat, a guy west of us went out & grabbed one boy & took him straight over to the island in the middle of the river. We were oaring straight accross the river but really at first i never thought we would ever meet up with him & the other grandson. That water was really swift >>>>> & COLD !! Well by luck when we hit the middle of the river they floated right into us. We got the kis into the boat & we were going to try & get the older guy in too But he said don`t even try, he said from the waist down i am so numb i could not even help you for me to get into the boat. Someone had called the EMS from the west ( town ? ) & we could hear them coming ! We were doing everything we could to get back to the bank, & we could see persons running down the bank to try & stay up with us. We got to the bank right at Vollomar`s Park. Lucky it was the low flat part of the bank & much easier for the guys to help grab him & get him up on shore. The sun was out & really felt really good. They laid him out flat so the sun could warm him up. I know they checked them out, not sure anymore but i think they took them in the ambulance. In the couple years i was there before i sold it, it seems at least once a year someone had to try the canoe thing on a nice day & lose it at the rapids. Lucky the older guy made sure his grandkids had vests 🙂
