With Korg announcing a reissue of the PS-3300, I’m sure this video will quickly become very popular. It brought me here. And yes, this was my Dream Synth growing up. I settled for a MS-20 in 1977 instead. $$$.

Nicely done Tim, very useful and informative. Nice touch with Defender at the end.

Awesome synth! Have decided to include this in the pick 3 offer.

Lovely. I learn a lot. With not immediately undersandable synth features. Tim never disappoints

I'm glad you mention the 'lens' concept behind the voltage processors, it's a nice way uunderstanding them. The PDF manual could be from my old website, Korgkornucopia but I don't know. It's a shame one can't interface the PS-3300 externally through voltage control; the giant PS-3040 foot pedals are a fun way to control the real-life V.P.s. Cherry Audio seem to have created a software monster, in the same way that Korg did in 1977!

5:10 I love the 'randomish' effect if the LFO's are NOT synchronised but at about the same frequency.

Love the old Korg PS-3300... Should like to give it a spin in demo mode... ☮🔥🎹

I thought it also might be useful to say that the Voltage Processors 'LIMITER A' and 'LIMITER B' are not the same as the Limiter on the top right of the panel (above REVERB), which is an audio-level parameter (one of several improvements/modernisations of the original instrument I think), whereas the V.P. limiters are to control a voltage supplied to them.

Great job! I enjoy your videos.

36:10 Looking at that diagram, I suspect that the two limiters are not separate controls for the positive and negative halves of the waveform, but rather controls for MAPPING -5 and +5 to arbitrary destinations, the voltages in between being interpolated linearly. And to be honest, that makes more sense to me.

Oh crumbs, I think I could waste an entire week playing with this thing! I'm still going to buy it though. Wish me luck.

Tanks a lot for the exploration and the explanations ! I remember the MS20... And of course the PS20 from CA. BTW witch keyboard are you playing ? Best regards

The Cherry Audio website says ‘24-voices of polyphony’. Unusual to have a software plugin with LESS voices than the analog original. Is that 24 voices total, or 24 voices for each of the three synth engines?
@CherryAudiovst10 ай бұрын
24 total, because it doesn't follow the same architecture of the original hardware by creating an individual synth (VCO, VCF, VCA) for each of the 48 keys. There are more efficient ways to produce the same end sonic results (other than the polyphony) and still operate well on standard platforms.
@mikeolson758810 ай бұрын
@@CherryAudiovst Thanks for the reply. Are the 24 voices spread across the 3 synth engines, or are there 24/engine? Thanks again.
@CherryAudiovst10 ай бұрын
@@mikeolson7588 each individual synth panel has polyphony up to 24 notes, but since they're discrete and the master mix panel is mono/paraphonic, it's still just 24 notes and stacked voices.
@pauljeavons8878 Жыл бұрын
Very informative video. It definitely has that big poly sound. But it's a shame it didn't have some kind of ring modulation. I can't see an output of oscs to send out for modulation to another osc. Poly ring mod from an osc or even hi freq filter mod from an oscillator gives much in harmonic content.
@chaosme1ster10 ай бұрын
Each oscillator has a "signal out" (top right of each synth section) and an "ext. freq control" in (bottom left of each synth section), so you can patch audio from one osc into another. That gives FM though and not ring mod, although the two often sound equally crappy :).

Using the sample and hold with the LFO gave me some real "meat beat manifesto" vibes!🎹🎛️🎚️🎧👌
@joecantdance494 Жыл бұрын
Can someone explain why the LFO cleaned up the muddy percussive sequence? I'm a bit lost
@CherryAudiovst Жыл бұрын
If we understand your question correctly (approximate timecode you're looking at?), it is the steps where he synchronizes the modulations to the same clock. The different LFOs might not have the same cycle or start at the same point, so the SYNC ON switches help ensure that multiple modulations are running in a more unified fashion.
@baward Жыл бұрын
@@CherryAudiovst good explanation! Korg explained the sync function in the manual (in relation to the S&H, but the principle is the same): "If the input is cyclic, this switch will synchronise the sampling rate with the input signal so that the stepped output signal will repeat in regular cycles also."
