I can say, hands down, that I am both amazed of the details you presented and the fact that you presented this niche equipment that I also have on my radiators. As I intend to "automatize" these via some wireless manner you have really helped me knowing what I'm getting myself into! It has been a real pleasure, you've earned by appreciation and subscription :)

Hi. Thanks a lot. What do you think, is it possib,le to unsolder thermistor (temperature detector) and solder it on extended wires, to have remote measurement of temperature at different point in space?
@voltlog5 жыл бұрын
that should be possible, thermistors are often attached with extension leads for remote sensing.

Sometimes we have Lidl special sales here in Germany, those Thermostats are thrown out there for 10€ with the Bluetooth option. But nice to see that they are produced in Germany and really hard to believe for that prices. BTW the thumbnail says “In the Mail”

Although the temperature measured near the radiator is different from where you usually are, it is just for reference. For exemple you can set it 35 C and where you are is 25 C, if you set it 30 where you are is 23C you do it until you get the temperature you feel good. This way you can regulate the temperature even it is not the same showed on the display.
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
you can do that but it doesn't sound good to me, I'm curious to see if the problem is there in practice or if they try to compensate somehow through software.

It is a good point how that thermostat being so close to the heat source could give you an accurate easy way to set the temperature for the room.

That's no different than all the other radiator mounted thermostats that have been in use for decades.

I have those valve instaled in my house, they are great. now when I use them I would liek to have smarter solution, Is there solution for this valve that when the valve is closed that it shuts down boiler?? I have watched sewerall videos and cant finde complet solution. Like GIACOMINI or Comet DECT
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
I don't think Lidl sells a complete system that could control the boiler/heater as well..

@@voltlog Thanks for replay. Is there way that this valve controll boiler? The same company produces thermostat with wifi witch can connect with another devices. Is here possible to put some kind off transmiter witch could send info to boiler to turn off. Problem that I have: my main thermostat witch turns on and off boiler is in my living room, I have set it to turn heating on in morning lets say at 6am and valves are allso set at 6am but it could hapened that valves closed in 6:50 because they reach set temperature but thermostat still didnt reach same temperature and boiler works, service man told me that this is bad and that boiler can fail in souch way. Does someone have solution?
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
You would need a complete system with thermostats that are able to connect to a gateway which will control your boiler on/off.

Does anyone think having a temp sensor so close to the radiator may be a problem?
@rofo886 жыл бұрын
Andrei Daniliuc A normal manual handvalve also measure near by the heater, may u need a offset
@andreidaniliuc38246 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note. I know manual ones have that but I'm not sure if you'd be expecting a lot of accuracy from those ones. On this one you can set a specific temperature. One may expect more accuracy? Lots of error correction may be needed given the proximity to the radiator I think.

I know how they managed to get that low cost: they skipped soldering usb connector! You can see pads for probably mini usb connector near that ic. Four pads for metal part of connector, and even two small holes.

Once they have covered the costs of the tooling for the plastics and the assembly line set up, the component cost is probably less than 2 or 3 euros. they can churn these out and rebadge them for anyone now.
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
yeah but you also have the dc motor + reduction gears.. varta batteries.. and it's made in germany where labor costs more.
@TheRealSasquatch6 жыл бұрын
very few hands will have touched this - the final assembly of parts is probably all the manual input. The motor and gearbox are simple to assemble and varta batteries are peanuts in bulk.

if gearboxes and motors are $3 retail shipped from china i doubt on a large scale they actually cost more than 40c

@@voltlog You might want to take a look at this video by Giacomini. They show how to attach a valve similar to yours: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaWZg4KPZtNmidU But you are right: you may need another adapter. All Giacomini installation videos I found use some sort of push-fit rather that a screw fastener.
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
In the video they clearly show an adapter being fitted over the valve (white +Red pin) and I'm missing that, because the valve body seems identical to what I have. On another note, they thermostat looks very similar and I am willing to bet is made by the same company in germany :-)

Whilst you can buy adapters to suit most valves they seem to be horribly expensive. You'll probably find it's cheaper to buy another valve - peferably one which is compatible with a Honeywell valve head with a 30mm x 1.5mm thread. Many, if not most, valves are especially later models, but they don't advertise it on the box. There are some compatibility documents around which list many valve models - eg. search on theevohomeshop.co.uk for Honeywell evohome HR92 Radiator Valve Compatibility' for a decent list and select one which doesn't require an adapter (even one that you got with the LIDL valve). I was a bit dissapointed that they changed the processor from an atmega AT169P that they used in the almost identical Comet Sparmatic (version 1 and 2 models), for which there are some alternative firmware projects to add cheap wireless modules. Google Comet Sparmatic, select images and you will find some teardowns/schematics etc. on a German forum. You can get cheap Sparmatic comet valves from the German ebay site if you fancy modifying these valves. Also search for OpenTRV. The Honeywell HRV-20 is very similar and also uses an atmega and have been modified but they are (or at least were) much more expensive and probably obsolete. I haven't included links as youtube decided my last comment was spam until I deleted a link.
@voltlog6 жыл бұрын
thanks for all the info, someone else linked the german forum below and I took a look, looks like either they changed the micro-controller or maybe this was a lower cost solution that existed from the beginning. Personally I don't even have thermostatic valves installed on my heaters but I wanted to take a quick look at how they work that's why I bought this thermostat. But if i decide to install them I will try to get something which is a bit more compatible with the honeywell valves.

I have to say that whoever designs things like this is an idiot. Wax filled TRV valves have been around for years, work great and cost zero to run once you have bought them. Now somene comes up with a microprocessor replacement that needs batteries. Great way to waste even more of the planet's resources. And if you put one on every radiator in your house you can expect all of them to go flat just when you need the heating to work the most. Excellent!
