I quit adding a tone knob myself... you can control any kind of "tone" you want at the amp or pedal or whatever... Geeky nerdy video!! Electric guitar circuitry can get very complicated and esoteric almost like alchemy and magic!! 6:12 .. Insert Bon Scott "The Jack" here 🤣

Honestly, I think the tone circuit is some sort of bandaid they used back in the day that we just keep for tradition. There are more potential problems with the sound of a guitar than just too much treble. I'm trying to figure out how to add a genuine 7-10 band EQ straight to my bass in place of the tone control. That way I can tweak all the things a sound guy would tweak without needing a sound guy. There are certain frequencies the pros tweak, five of which are in the bass range. And just rolling off everything above 2,500 Hz doesn't fix anything on an instrument where the highest fundamental note is ~1,200 Hz, like a guitar.

Problem with controlling the tone from the amp is that you have to go to the amp to control the tone. A knob lets you access it in place. With a CBG tone is not really an issue since it is not expected. The entire package grates on the eardrums and curls the toenails.

So, how does the signal get into the tone pot if we connect the wire from the input lug of the volume pot to the output lug of the tone pot? This must be a really stupid question because I haven’t located anything on the internet that answers it.

The tone allows you to roll treble to bass, huge difference if done correctly. To say you can get the tone from your hands or playing style is BS. You can't get more bass or treble from your playstyle.

i can get more bass tones by palm muting and playing nearer the middle of the string… and more treble tones by string attack and saying more towards the bridge / saddle. fingerpads vs fingernails…fingerstyle vs pick … quiet vs loud…. many things affect tone.

Yeah, but people need to learn to do this if you wanna do anything custom. Even just changing out pickups you need to know the basics… pretty much all stock pickups suck ass
