The lights pre set at 300 - aghhh - I hear you on this one brother... it kills me that I have to play with every light I add!! Great Video! I have not upgraded yet, as this year really seamed unimpressive. I am looking at D5 and Twinmotion..but I am not sure which way to go yet. Keep up the great work Greg!

I would really like to hear what the reason behind it is. I'm sure there is a good reason but it is making Lumion renders overall worse, as the majority of people don't understand why their lighting isn't working. Twinmotion is definitely on my radar now, as it appears they are finally leveraging Unreal Engine features. Thanks a lot Chuck I appreciate you checking out the video!

Nice to see you again Greg! I share your disappointment. I read through every single one of the Lumion 12 release notes the other night, but couldn't find any stand out features that warrant spending the money to upgrade from 11. There appears to be a lot of little improvements to the intuitiveness of the software and I do like what they have done with textures/maps but I feel like these are things that should have been done in previous versions anyway. I was hopeful as I do really like using Lumion but IMO there are not enough extra features in 12 to enable better quality interior renders. I'll be interested to watch your video on the Lumion/D5 comparison..
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
I am going to record that soon, I feel like I can make a fair comparison. Truthfully though I am not really that impressed with any of the real-time render engines. I used to think Twinmotion was the worst but it seems to be making some pretty serious moves. Enscape is also fine quality-wise but I don't like feeling like I am stuck in the Sketchup software (the reason why I wasn't a fan of Sketchup Vray). D5 is rising but I still feel like they have some pretty massive flaws. Lumion doesn't really seem to have anything exciting on the horizon. Twinmotion is really starting to leverage Unreal Engine, and using it bring UE4 within reach of the average person.

@@LuminousLabs Looking forward to that. I had high hopes for Lumion when I started using it last year, but I feel like they are in the process of being overtaken by D5 and Twinmotion (perhaps it has already happened). The great thing about D5 & TM is that they are advertising their roadmaps for future features, something that Lumion is failing to do. I think the problem is that Lumion is targeted towards architects rather than 3D renderers.. It would be helpful to know if they intend on sticking with the same target market..

I think in this update the major updates were for the performance, speed, intuitiveness of the program. Also one of the most important for the textures was added. The ability to add custom gloss maps. There's no longer a need to Photoshop the alpha channel with the gloss mask.
@duchenedesignsolutions70363 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate on how you have notice speed and performance improvements?
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
The gloss map was a nice touch, but at the same time that should never have been a Lumion 12 feature. People had to ask them for so long to include it, that I don't know if I can give too many brownie points.
@bradvanburen38033 жыл бұрын
@@duchenedesignsolutions7036 I use Lumion 10 and probably will not upgrade the software til next year or if they significantly increase realism. I did read all the release notes for L12 and it seemed like they cleaned up a lot of bugs and made things more streamlined. If there's any feature I'd want it would be if in movie mode you could have the camera make automatic keyframes for certain amount of seconds. An example would be if there was a setting that would automatically make keyframes every 5 seconds or so or adjust the range of seconds. This could help the animation look more steady and not jerky. Many times I have issues with the animation speeding up and slowing down. If there was a way to make the animation more fluid and steady.

I was a big advocate for Lumion for many years but after using D5 and the yearly disappointing "features" from Lumion coupled with the price.... It is a no brainer for me currently

Lumion and Twinmotion r having a Nokia and Samsung situation, if twinmotion manage to add raytracing it will shoot right over Lumion and basically bury it

Someone just said in a comment TwinMotion is adding the path-tracer that is in Unreal (I believe) that would give the users much higher quality.

I don't like it is possible :( Maybe if you had a plane in the sky with the bat signal and then you added some fog and volumetric lights then it might look passable!

I got an email from Lumion asking to upgrade to 12, however I didn’t see any features that were much better than 11.5 I was hoping that they added a realistic texture feature that would eliminate the use of third party programs.

I ultimately feel like that's kind of the issue. Even without ray-tracing there are 20+ features I felt could be added that would be easy to implement but add a ton to the software.

I think what is at the heart of the problem is that they are sticking with their engine Quest 3D. At the beginning of Lumion it was cutting-edge, now it really isn't. Based on what I am seeing, ray-tracing won't be possible in Lumion.
