Volunteers Race to Save Pets Left Behind in Hurricane Harvey

Hundreds of volunteers from shelters and organizations across the country are doing everything they can to save countless animals after Hurricane Harvey hit the city of Houston. Cat and dogs were carried by hand from flooded homes. In the heart of the storm, dogs in crates were rushed to dry land by boat. I can understand a pet that got lost during the storm but if you left your pet behind while you went to safety I don't think you should be reunited with your pet!

I adopted my sweet Cooper who was abandoned in Houston and was found wandering on the streets during Hurricane Harvey. He was going to be euthanized but thankfully he was rescued again and flown to Baltimore. He is currently snoring beside me and I can’t imagine a sweeter sound. Thank you to all who have contributed to helping others. Your act of kindness and love could never be repaid.

I would not leave my Frenchie, Or she comes with me or we'll die together. I could not deal with the idea that I left her alone and she died alone in fear.I have no kids, but she is my "kid" for 12 years (she's almost 70 in dog years). She's old now but she gives me a lot of happiness and joy while I have hard times! Never ever I'll leave her alone.

Yea... if you left your pet behind and then just expect someone else to save them, feed them, comfort them, organize everything, work painstakingly and then you just walk up and collect them? No ma'am... no sir... if your dog like ran out or you weren't home and got stuck somewhere, or something legit happened... ok, that's understandable... but these workers should really question these pet owners when they come to pick up their animals (which raises a question of how they confirm the person actually owns the pet they're picking up) and if they willingly left them behind, then they shouldn't deserve to get them back. Plenty of organizations open their arms in events like this. Rather the fur baby go to a loving home than to a home where they're obviously not a priority. Js.
