Volunteers Turn an Airport Truck into LIFESAVER

The truck is called a Maci . It was made in Canada. The US army firefighters used this truck as a crash truck as well as a structural engine. They carry 650 gallons of water with a 1000gpm pump. Also have class A and B foam system. The truck actually has a self priming for drafting applications in the rural settings. They work really well as a wildlife engine. They were phased out by the military in the early 2000's when they were replaced by TFFT which the Army still uses today.

My husband was the financial accountant for Amertek here in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. They held a open house when the first of these trucks were built and the families were able to ride in the trucks. They were fantastic! I remember riding to the top of a big hill and going down the other side of it that I am sure was at a 70 degree angle. Also in a field beside the plant we had a water/foam fight with another truck to show how the driver could do everything from inside the cab. My son happened to come across this and sent it on to me. Unfortunately my hubby has passed away but this brought me a few happy memories.

I have one in my volunteer department. Use it for grass fires and big truck fires when needed. Those trucks will move and fun to drive.

Mike went through Hancock, MI. My mother lives up there and he was not joking about the snow! I have seen that type of truck in Iraq, the FOB had one and they used it on a Stryker that caught fire!

This is so cool to see a Yooper FD. I used to be on Ford River Vol FD in Delta County up dar, I am actually wearing my old shirt from the dept. today while on shift at my current EMS job in Chicago. Old school, I remember the jump seats but I also rode tailboard (in Alaska)! This rig would be relatively new as I left the service in the late 90s! Great and interesting video as I was born in lower Michigan!!

Don't those trucks use a different version of a PTO which allows them to pump on the move where a normal engine would switch the PTO over to the pump from the drive line?

More departments need to use the older Airport Fire Engines as they would be safer for the firefighters responding to extremely hot fires and the water cannon would be very beneficial for wildlands fires as well.. Anyone agree with me?

It would be a good idea to take something like that truck, remove the back and slap a big tank, pump, and smaller tool area and on that joker and make a wildland tanker/brush truck cuz its a 4x4, and has front nozzels and can be controled from inside.

HURST is Jaws Of Life, used them for over 36 years, best tool around. I have often wanted a rig like yours for off road events and day to day fire calls. Staying inside the cab and fighting fire is the safest way to go. One person per engine is the new thing as Voluntewers are geting harder to find. Have a safe day. @@HeroesNextDoor

Fort Leavenworth Kansas Fire Department back when I was stationed (88-93) there had a Amertek Crash Truck in at the time would be Station 2 down on Sherman Army Airfield before the station got wiped out in the Floods of 93 that breached the Levee and just completely flooded the hangers and the other buildings down there along with the runway areas.
