yeah H cam is a bit dead if you plan on mid to low rpm drive the car but i do advice on advancing ignition if possible then, the H cam loves ignition timing and by doing that it pull harder than my vx ever did even at low/mid rpm at stock timing
@jonrasu3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the info! Do you know of any guides on timing advancement/things to be aware of etc...?
@Stale_Mahoney3 жыл бұрын
@@jonrasu well on the lh2.4 you can grind the directional l on the crank sensor reader and turn it the other way around in the plug and it somehow gives 3deg of advance on timing across the entire ignition map. or get ignition chips, here is a vid explaining what i mean kzbin.info/www/bejne/jX2QoaSNgK2eqbs&ab_channel=ABM at 5:00 min mark

@@jonrasu you simply turn the contact around in the plugg hole, i have a ign chipp and done this mod so i drive on 98 octane, but simply turning the contact back and i can drive on 95(standard)

I have a b230k engine in my volvo 240 which is an N/A carburetted engine, from what ive seen they apparently all use the T type camshaft stock rather than the M type. Correct me if you have heard different.

“When you do this, paint your valve cover” 😂 good point and hilarious knowing how many Volvo people skip that part...

You describe the Volvo 240 experience so well I died laughing. I daily drive my 89 244 na auto with 277k miles, my father daily drives a 90 244 na auto with 260k miles. We also have a 90 245, and we just recently bought an 88 na manual.

I've had a new IPD VX N/A cam on my Volvo "to do"shelf for 6 years now. So difficult to tear in to a perfectly running engine and risk making things worse, especially with only 43K miles on it!

Yep. The old adage: 'If it ain't broke don't fix it.' applies in that case. lol

@@bobjohnson1587 Hi Bob! I still have it but I think I'll hang on to it for now. If I ever have to work on the head I will install it.

@@mortimergladbreath Not a problem. I thought I would ask. Thanks for the quick reply. I'm planning on checking/adjusting the valve lash and replacing the hushers on mine sometime this spring/summer. Since I'll be doing all that I thought it might be a good time to possibly replace my stock cam. The IPD VX cam sounds like a good alternative for a n/a B230F.

What about the V cam? Wouldn't an A cam be better for the automatic than the B cam, since it provides better lower end with less duration? What of aftermarket camshafts from sweden, ENEM and KGTrimnig? Also, the 'VX Turbo' is the IPD Turbo cam, very different from the VX cam. VX specifically refers to the profile, V intake and X exhaust.
@jonrasu4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I actually did not know that V cams existed until you mentioned them. I couldn't say which would be better from experience, but others have reported their preferences which I have included in the video. Also, I did not see any prominent information on aftermarket cams. If you have experience with these, please respond here for anyone else who has your same question! Yes, it's a potentially confusing naming convention for IPD to use.

just found a k cam for my 940 na now just waiting for adjustable timing gear and expecting maybe 25% increase in hp which should be enough to allow me to merge safely
@jonrasu2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it! I think that is what I would have suggested without doing much additional research. I think your adjustable timing gear will be well worth the investment here!

A K cam (same as KG Trimning KG004) should give about 10bhp. I'm about to do that on my M cam B200F. From what I read, the airflow through the exhaust ports is lower (even with a 531 head) and 12mm valve lift (which the K cam has) is optimal. I have a dog dish flywheel so there is not much point chasing much more than 6000rpm. If I can get peak torque at 4200-4500rpm, that will be fine. The smaller engine will make the cam slightly hotter than if installed in a B230 anyway so no point going too far. In the end I went for a V cam. Best torque around 3800rpm.
