Thanks for this! Just bought a set of rotors and pads from eBay. Took them to a local mechanic and he didn't want any part of it. Just seeing the cotter pins was worth the watch. Guess me and my son will be doing it this weekend. Thanks again!

Joe Stocker There isn’t much a novice can’t do on these cars with a basic set of tools. Fire your mechanic 😂

I just got a 1988 Volvo 240 DL Wagon and appreciate this video as it needs rear brakes ... Looking forward to video on front brakes.

I am glad it helped you! Hopefully I can get a front brake video up before spring.

Very helpful! Did this before on early models which use different pins and little hitch clips. My '91 is exactly like you display, though. If you are lucky you can seat that top pin by prying against the "crash block" instead of removing the block.

Thanks for a nice clear, step by step process - you've given me the confidence to have a go myself at changing over my 1985 240 pads. Cheers!

Shout out to the old 242 Chewy! I hit those pins with a small squirt of PB'laster before I tap them out and knock the surface rust off with some emory cloth... just because it might be another 200,000 miles before they need replacing again.

Is that a Virginia rejection inspection sticker in the window? Looks like your outside right piston isn't retracting judging by the wildly different wear of the pads. Had that on one of my 240's once, too.

Nice video, but I noticed you didn't pull out any cotter pins. 🤔

RickK RocKStar Cotter pins are used in the front brakes. The rear ones use a compressing ring ; behind the head of the pins.
