This was the replacement for the 260 series starting in 1983. In addition to retaining the B28E gas V6 engine from its predecessor series, there was one new engine exclusive to the 760 GLE line in the form of the D24T inline six cylinder turbo diesel engine, which was a turbo version of the earlier D24 that was in turn used in the 240 series from 1980-84 (skipping only 1981). The D24 series was a Volkswagen design, as it was simply that company's 1.6L four with two more cylinders tacked on.

It(s awesome how,project 1135 became known as the 760,after the 200 series it was replaced it with the 700 series, which was replaced by the the 850.

If you watch the documentary you’ll realize this is not true. The 700 series was an attempt for a more upmarket vehicle from Volvo, specifically designed to sell well in foreign markets. The 850 was the intended successor of the 200 series but was delayed several years because of financial troubles. When the base 740 GL finally appeared in 1985, 3 years after the launch the 760, it was priced almost equal to the top-spec 245 Turbo!
