Volvo Amazon 122s Fuel Pump fix, and a taillight thing.

The NEW fuel pump I got last year has a major flaw, so I fix it. Also, American market taillights are bad, so I fix it.

Great video. I've never had that issue with the fuel pump on mine, however I had the same problem with the tail light. Turned out to be the connection housing located right at the tail light. When I separated the connection housing, it exposed the white color corrosive that wasn't allowing the current to conduct. I cleaned the the contacts pins inside the housings with a small wire brush, and then sprayed some CRC QD Electronic Cleaner on it. It functioned properly then. Be careful driving that classic, some people don't pay attention. Good luck with the 122, They're wonderful cars. I wouldn't trade any of mine for anything on the road today. They are so easy to repair, and very stylish!

I never had a problem with the original fuel pump, or the crimped tape fuel pumps. But this is an aftermarket that is just screwed together, and they just back out. I’ve seen other people complain about the problem as well. The first thing I do when I get any one of these cars is go through and clean all the grounds and all the electrical contacts, this one is just a little dirtier than I thought.

@@Misunderstoodboygenius The early model Volvo's had a glass bowl fuel pump that could be repaired with a kit. The glass bowl was kind of cool, because you could actually see if it was functioning properly.

@@sj122s yes! My 59 544 had one, and my 62 4 door 122 did as well.

The rear lights don't have a proper earth. They rely on the reflector housing making metal to metal contact with the body. With new or nice paint that's a problem. Some add a small earth wire from the reflector down to a self tapper through the wing to body flange on the boot floor. Make it neat.

I like the the new lenses. I may have to switch at some point. That's a cool AAA badge on the trunk. I changed my rubber gaskets 2 or 3 years ago, and they are still good. You may have just got a bad batch? VP is really good. They may send you a new set.

I had the same issue with that brand of pump, eventually, I replaced the replacement (I went through two of the Professional Parts Sweden pumps) with a Pierburg.

I’m sure Pierburg is the way to go. At least this will (hopefully) fix the issue for now.

Watched this video before but for the fuel pump and now im back to watch the fuel filter, just put one on mine after like 11 years and it dosnt fill up at all but it runs and drives fine until you give it the beans trying to do a 0-60 pull then it run out of fuel guess i probably should change the fuelpump out , i did after all spend over and hour vacuum rust out off the fueltank before putting the filter on 😂

I’ve had to replace the entire fuel system on most of my old cars. Makes it easier than trying to deal with all the crap.

Yeah that's probably the way to go took apart the fuel pump and for sure wasn't enough crap in that cause any issues and took another look down my fuel tank and yup already more loose crap in it after like 30min of driving
