Volvo C30 Bluepower 990 head unit

I spent over $600 on a unit for my volvo s60 and it arrived broken in the box. Bluepower would not assume responsibility. Avoid these guys. Shady. There are lots of chinese android units for sale for a lot less. I bought one and it works great.

Yeah my screen wasn’t functioning when I got mine. They responded to my email and were accommodating on the replacement. Problem is since I had to ship back to Sweden it took over a month but problem was resolved.

Sorry man unfortunately she’s moved on to bigger and better things. I no longer have her. There were a couple of videos out there on how to install. Don’t think they were C30s but you got the basics

Thank You for posting this. Where did you purchase the radio? I have only found the unit for sale online in Europe. I have the same car, a 2010 c30 R, and love it. Keep posting as you modify your car. I want to keep watching.

I installed it. Instructions were strait forward because they’re solely for Volvo. Taking apart the dash is easy. Took a couple of hours plus while I was in there I added the backup camera

How do you get it to show the old radio controls? Do you have to do anything special or does it just do that when you plug in a new radio?

It does it automatically because you are using the stock radio CPU and just changing out the monitor essentially.

Thanks for posting. Nice ride. I have a 2007 c70 convertible with the same/similiar waterfall dash and want to do the same thing you did to add some technology to the car. I have some questions if you don’t mind... 1) does it have to be this very specific head unit? I read in the previous comments that it had to be ordered from Europe? 2) did you do this yourself? If so, did you find a step by step online to follow? I don’t have any real experience the area of auto audio etc but I’d like to do it myself. Thanks man.

1) for a bluepower unit this is basically the only one and yeah I ordered it strait from Sweden 2) I did install it myself. Have some but not much experience with head unit installation but still succeeded with not many problems. Comes with instructions plus I googled other people’s installations. The combination of the two gave me enough info to complete the task Hope this helps

What is the color of the veneer on the panel?

Of my C30? A light silver...almost carbon fiber color. The unit is a shade lighter than black and has a flat matte finish

You’re using the stock CPU of the head unit with the Bluepower unit. Where I got confused was I originally wasn’t using the stock CPU in addition to the Bluepower equipment. Then I realized you’re only supposed remove the stock screen. Everything else stays and works with the Bluepower. I don’t know if that is part of your problem or not. My harnesses all we’re fine out of the box when it came to fitting the stock harnesses.

Yeah you get rid of the stock display and you are essentially just replacing it with the new monitor and adding the Bluepower unit.

If the main part of your unit works this will work. It needs the stock CPU. Your essentially just replacing the screen and adding inputs and a DVD player. So if you feel like what’s not working is just your screen it’ll work

@@White_Ryce Thank you. The only thing not working is the ability to make any sound come from any of the choices...radio, sirius, cd, aux. Everything displays, just doesn't play. I swapped the whole unit out with my other 2011 c70, and it works in there. So the unit is good, something is wrong in THIS car. Confusing.

(Their product page doesn't say that, and when I called, the company told me it does not play Sirius/satellite, but on your video, I saw Sirius pop up on the screen, so now I'm thinking maybe it does work!) Also - does it retain all of your audio hardware (subwoofer, etc.)? Also - where did you buy it? How much did you pay? Thanks so much!

I don’t use Sirius radio but yeah from what I saw that feature is supported. I mean there’s numerous usb/aux/rca inputs so even if the actual unit can’t support it I’m sure adding the independent Sirius unit, plugging it in to one of them, and shoving it into glove box is a last resort. All stock hardware is fully supported. The CPU from the stock unit is still used with the Bluepower so no audio wiring was adjusted. I bought mine directly through the Bluepower web site. Was close to $600 American. Took a few weeks to get it. Their customer service through email was pretty accommodating. Hope that helps

Thanks for the info! Not sure, but maybe it'll work if I add the Sirius svm-300 module... I was surprised to see anything saying "sirius" on your display. Did your car's factory stereo come with Sirius/Satellite??? Thanks again!

My factory came with a satellite radio input but it wasn’t labeled Sirius. My assumption is because in ‘09’ when my car was manufactured there was also XM radio.

Okay so I kinda need to redact parts of my previous statement. So the Sirius you saw on my dash was from my original radio CPU that does support Sirius. So with that being said, since the original CPU is still necessary for the Bluepower to function, if your stock radio was Sirius capable your Bluepower will support Sirius. It just will read on the screen like it would have on your stock display, aka kinda dated, since you splice your Bluepower to replace the original display. Hope that helps a little bit better

Clarence Boddicker, not exactly. Most Volvos have use a non-adjustable compressor bypass valve. They run a MAF and can't really vent metered air to atmosphere without going rich and bogging/stalling. Hell, my 84 242 turbo came from the factory with a T3 and no CBV or BOV, just small relief port of the TB and lots of compressor surge.
