We had those cars during my military service. They carried an anti tank gun. I have both driven it and shooting from it. A fun thing was that if you forgot to turn off the lights when shooting, you had to change every lightbulb on the car afterwards due to the shockwave from the gun.

The B30 straight-six 3.0 litre engine was most commonly seen in the Volvo 164 luxury saloon. I believe this uses a de-tuned version with carbs rather than the fuel-injection the 164 would have had at this time, with bags of torque, ideal for a vehicle designed to work in arduous conditions...

That's right. The military version of the B30 had only 117 hp, but with better och more wide range torque.

Thank you for the video. That is a Volvo 4151. Anti Tank Vehicle. The diff gear ratio is 2.91 and the portal gear reduction/ratio is 2.06. Combined is 5.99. There is a company that sells a Ring and Pinion sets which will get you down to 5.15 combined. The same company also sells a lower gear set for the T-case so its the same as stock (original factory feel) off road. The lever on the stick shift switches the T-Case from High Range to Low Range. ALL OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE Land Rover. The Volvo C303 is the hard top version and the C306 is the 6x6 version. The TGB1314 is also a 6x6 Ambulance Version and the TGB 1317 is the 6x6 Radio box version.

Close. I believe it's a TGB-11, which is very similar to a C303. The C303 & 306 are true mid-engine setups where the front seats are forward of the power train. Dig up some info on the braking system - it's a very unique system. On the C303 ^&306, it's a cross-bias setup as opposed to a front/rear split. IIRC, it engages 4wd automatically when braking, but I don't recall where I heard that. I don't know if it's the same on the TGB-11. The C306 is the 6x6 version.

i had a volvo 165 station wagon in the 70's, the 160 series was the luxury versions of the 140 series. thats the engine from the 160 series, same dual carbs, they used british SU or stromberg carbs. both carb types used a vacuum operated piston with a long tapered needle for fuel monitoring and normal butterfly valves for throttles. the same carbs were used in many british cars and light trucks.

Volvo never had no more then 4 cilinder engined cars in the 70's Lets explain the historic Volvo numbering F.E. a volvo 144 1 stands for the model 4 for the amount of cillinders 4 for the amount of doors Not on every model they used their historic numbering. F.E .the 360/460 had a 4 cil engine and 2 or 4 doors The only 6 cil car engines were the LT diesel engine from VW. and the PSA (peugeot) PRV 6 cil petrol engine for the 7 series in the 80's The only V8 car engine was a Yamaha designed petrol for the XC90 us market If you want a fast saloon / estate volvo get a 5 cilinder turbo they are iconic!

@@obelic71 "Volvo never had no more then 4 cilinder engined cars in the 70's" That is a very bold statement. What about the 164 (that used the same B30 engine as this vehicle, but with a slightly different tune), 262, 264 and 265?
@obelic715 жыл бұрын
@@vk3139 Ok you have a good point but let me explain. For the US market they used the 3L 6 cil engine from the military C303 4x4 truck There are also only few of them build+/- 70.000 164 and 1.5 milion of the 100 series B18/20 4 cil version. The 6 cil volvo engine in Europe is very rare outside military and commercial trucks. Therefore i didn't include those 6 cil passengercar models, i was just not thinking at that moment of the US market. The most European country's roadtax passengercars according displacement of the engine, or displacement weight index. Therefore the engine sizes are way smaller then in the US. So we learned to just push more horsepower out of less displacement!
@vk31395 жыл бұрын
@@obelic71 Sure there wasn't as many of them as the 4 cylinder versions, but to say that there were none at all is just wrong, even if looking at just Europe. I may have a poor view about how common they were in the rest of Europe since I am from Sweden (still a very big difference in numbers from the 4cylinder versions here as well) but still, far off from non existing.

It's a TGB 1111. It was 10,000 euro to purchase which was when the Euro was weaker to the dollar, a little over 5k US to import by boat with all the paperwork, and a few hundred here, a few thousand there for the refurbishment and engine work. The body had no significant rust through points, it had alot of surface rust or exposed primer. The cover needed repair in a few places where it was tearing, the roll bars wouldn't move due to rust, the engine ended up with an exhaust leak, carb issues, leaks, leaks leaks, new front leaf springs and now a new fuel tank. 2stroke did almost all the mechanical work and I've done almost all the body restoration minus the actual sand blasting on site. The paint is modern US Army CARC substitute (doesn't have the anti-chemical properties which make it hazardous to apply without special preparation). The 'right' color Swedish Army paint would have been to difficult to source and import. If I totaled up the costs I'm over 20,000 total into the truck, probably edging 22,500. This model (all 4 doors rocket launcher version) doesn't often come up for sale, I still think this is the only 4 door version of the TGB 1111 in the USA. Last nice one I saw was going for around 17,500 US, plus you'd have to import it. More pictures here: aclark79.smugmug.com/Volv-TGB-1111

@@aclark79 Actually it's a tgb 11 rebuilt for ATGM. The original open/cabriolet version called tgb 1111 was made for carring a 90 mm recoilless rifle. When the army wanted to replace the recoilles rifle with an ATGM it was tested to modify the tgb 1111. But after tests they decided to use the tgb 11 instead (original with hard roof). The tgb 1111 had no rear side doors and the back was slanted. The boxes at the bumpers is for stabilation bars used with the vehicle in fire position. At the tgb 1111 those bars was laid in the car.
