One thing the Volvo does do that took me a little while to figure out, is if you start accelerating with your foot, then resume the cruise control, it will continue accelerating at the pace you were previously, allowing the car to accelerate slower if you want it to

Yeah I use it in my XC70, but adaptive cruise control. Don't have to sit and "play video game" on the steering wheel, while cruising behind other cars. Love it! And for the "rolling downhil" gaining speed, that got me in to a ticket once, when my wife asked a question while "roling, so no thank you for that one. :) Mine is at 475000km and buttons aren't worn as well, good quality. Engine runs like it only has 200000-300000km on it. Love it!

You gotta have a look in-depth at adaptive cruise control.. it is totally next level stuff.. first time you use this it will just blow your mind. Its basically setting your desired speed and no need to fiddle when a car slower gets in the way. It will match its speed until its out of the way or you go in another lane it will automatically resume your desired speed.. it is a feature you will want in your future cars.

My Wife's 2015.5 S80 has the adaptive cruse control which is extremely nice to use. It speeds up or slows down the car to maintain a set distance from the car ahead.

Good information. The word you needed was Resume. The cruise control resumes back to the speed you set. Think my V.40 had a R button. But yes I've been using the same technique for years. Great channel keep up the good work 👍

My V40 R Design Pro also has the speed limiter function incorporated (not adaptive) - super useful anti-speeding ticket technology!

Great video 👍 just got home from a long but great days driving around the lake District with my family in the V70, so I'm home now getting my Volvo fix on KZbin because I couldn't get Internet most of the day , but the drive round more than made up for it , and like you I've mastered the cruise control and love it , I find it very natural to use , but as soon as I hit the hills and winding roads I have great fun using the manual gears as well to pull me up and drive me down hills with out having to have my foot on the breaks half the day , the car is fantastic to drive and it's good and fast too .

I don’t use mine much because I find it a little bit of a pain to keep pressing the buttons up and down when a car in front isn’t going the speed limit and I always go back to using my foot. On the motor way I use it sometimes when I remember it’s there lol and I’m glad it allows the speed to be set above the national speed limit of 70 🙂

I use the cruise control on my 56 plate 2007MY xc90 and its great. Thanks for the info as I wondered why it didn't engine brake at 30mph cruise control wheni go downhill in a 30 zone. Now I know why. Thank you. Keep these coming.

I love the fact that cruise control never deviates speed more than 2 km/h in my v40. I’ve driven some chevrolets and Toyota and sometimes they decrease 5-6 km/h when going uphill, forcing me to intervene on the pedal.

I use it all the time but it's definitely not more economical especially if it's hilly, for the best economy you have to use your foot.

You can also hold the + or - instead of tapping. If accelerating you might be surprised by the kickdown!

Had CC in many cars over the years and always used it. On one car I had, the actual accelerator pedal would go up and down with the CC.. totally weird. CC has to be smooth in it's actions and some were a little hesitant. Jaguar xj8 was super smooth but controls were on a stick. Volvo's placement on the p3's is great as you say. Everything to hand. Strangely I know many people who never use CC on their cars. If you've got an automatic no left leg needed and CC lets you rest your right leg. Especially if like me and a of the older generation, you have a bit of arthritis or sore joints after driving for a bit. Wouldn't be without it... it's your other travelling friend ;)

@@drivelife.channel Honestly can't remember but it was totally weird. You had to keep your foot well away from the pedal otherwise your foot and the pedal would have a little dance.

Hi guys, I have a question: I have a 2011 V70, exactly the same interior as your S80. My Cruise Control only makes 1km/h-steps, but after the manual it should make 5km/h-steps. Did I miss something? It’s really annoying, especially while driving on the highway…

Disagreeing there with ergonomics, the chrysler 300c was a stalk on the left. Easy to "finger" up and down speed. But yep, playing the drive with cruise is great, but they don't really downshift to slow down quicker to the set speed. Chrysler down shifted to help get to the setspeed, the volvo tended to just spaz out. Same with like you say, accelerate at a stupid rate to get to the set speed.

You have your hands off the steering wheel more than on it. I agree it’s an easy system to use. But so is my R129 SL320.

The standard Volvo cruise control is OK but the Adaptive Cruise control is far far better. Its uses the front radar to track what's happening in front of the car, so if the vehicle in front slows the car adapts to the same speed and slows too. With standard Cruise the car would plough straight on regardless, unless you have to manually knock of cruise button and apply the foot brake. Adaptive does all this automatically and 'adapts' to the speed of the vehicle in front. If the front vehicle slows or comes to a stop so the adaptive control mimics the vehicle in front which is a huge safety benefit. Since having Adaptive I would never buy a vehicle with standard cruise.

Hi thanks for a great series of videos. I've got a question/comment about the cruise control. I've got a 2014 XC70 D5, it's the first Volvo i've ever had and it's great. I use cruise a lot and agree with all the comments you made in your video. I use it almost constantly on the motorway particularly when following a car travelling at the same speed that I've chosen. The issue I find irritating is that the Volvo cruise increase /decrease speed button operates in 5mph increments which are too big and makes small speed adjustments impossible. I previously owned a BMW X3 D5 in which the speed could be adjusted in 1mph increments which allows much finer adjustments. Do you know if it's possible to get the Volvo 5mph increment reprogrammed please. Thanks again for a great show . Thoms

I thing you don't understand advantage of 5 km(miles) increase and decrease. Tell me where you need to increase by 1 km or decrease by 1 or 2 km. If you are in area with strict speed limit for example 50km adjust exact speed for the area and passing that area four touches of button and you have 70km while increase by 1km you must hit the button 20 times then you come to forced speed limit of 60km two hits and you have 60km from 70km

I have has both types, and the 5mph increase is annoying it you are stuck behind someone who is constantly changing his speed up and down by small amounts.

@@davidbarclay2032 when you are stuck behind somebody you don't use cc you have to overtake and then use cc I thing that you are poor driver and on top XC70 has radar which control your speed behind somebody while in cc mode

3:06 - 3:37 It can be dangerous to use cruise control on “twisty” roads. I prefer to switch it off when I’m approaching a bend or if the road isn’t straight, simply because the car can’t recognise a bend, and if you have cruise control on, it will simply power through, maintaining the set speed, regardless of whether it’s safe to do so.
