In this session we show that large excavators can also be electrified.
The EC230 Electric crawler excavator is a pilot machine launched in Norway. It is one great example of how we work to expand our electromobility portfolio.

Don't understand why they can't make these things with easily changeable battery packs, you could have a stack of fresh ones ready to go as and when.

4-5 hours work? Some days a driver will need to work for over ten hours. How long does it take to charge?

In theese size of excavators i believe a hybrid system is to prefer. 4-5h runtime, and thats in gp work is not enough.
@derek7785
@derek7785 Жыл бұрын
That’s actual runtime as idle time is basically 0. It certainly won’t compete 100% with anything engine based but depending on the kind of work this could complete a full shift between charges.

Not true. 4 to 5 hours without a charge, but if you plug it in during the lunch break for 40 minutes, then it can operate the whole day (8 hours). What is the point you ask? How about 10 times chepaer operating costs (much lower total cost of ownership compared to diesel excavator), less noise and pollution, less operater/worker fatigue..Almost every job site in a city have electricity awailable, for those jobs that don't have it, you can bring big megapack (battery) on a job site and it will be enough for a few days of working and then one night drive this pack to location for charging and bring it back to the job site. In the video he will tell you exactly that, but you didn't even watch it fully...

It's a total waste of engineering money and production energy. Especially considering DEF engines simply produce nitrogen and water as exhaust. And how would you even power this? Equipment operations are in the remotest areas on earth. What are you supposed to do? Work 4 hours, then stop and charge it for an hour? Unbelievable! This climate change stuff is getting outta hand!

@@drister007 electricity is only cheaper because the demand on the grid is low. Once electrical vehicles become more numerous; electrical premiums will increase massively.

@@Ultroumbonee 1) DEF is made of nitrogen and water, and it reduces complex chemicals in diesel exhaust. It does not turn exhaust into nitrogen and water. Exhaust is still mostly CO2. 2)"How would you even power this?" (A) Charge at the shop overnight (B) charge from temporary power on a construction site (C) Charge from permanent power on quarry site. (D)Charge from shipping container battery as specified by the presenter. @drister007 covered a lunch break re-charge pretty well. Plug-in electric excavators have been used in urban construction for at least 30 years that I know of 3) This isn't the excavator you buy to work at a copper mine in remote Siberia. There will eventually be models with better battery capacity as battery technology improves, but pretending there is no use for new technology because it can't do the most difficult task current technology can do is disingenuous. I imagine people had the same opinion when automobiles started replacing horses. This is a perfect machine for residential and commercial building excavation. 4) Climate change is a reality. Evidence doesn't care whether or not you believe in it and the world is going to keep moving toward clean technology.

4-5hours per shift! Woo hoo sign me up! I bet it will be plugged into a large diesel generator on site to charge up. What is the point?!

@@No1karez You are completely wrong. It won't charge by diesel generator at all and also the charging time is 40 minutes to 70 %, not 5 hours.

4-5 hours until a lunch break as mentioned by @drister007. Charging (A) Charge at the shop overnight (B) charge from temporary power on a construction site (C) Charge from permanent power on quarry site. (D)Charge from shipping container battery as specified by the presenter. These are perfect machines for residential and commercial foundation construction. I've yet to meet a fleet manager that isn't excited about getting electrified machines (trucks, vans, heavy equipment etc.) with extremely low fuel and maintenance costs.
