What a great car. Upgraded today to the EX30 Extended range. Had the Tesla 3 2020 long range but this Volvo is just a masterpiece. Love the driving feeling and also the build and comfort!

Nice review. The EX30 is on my list to consider when my XC40 Recharge is due to renew. I like how it looks and most of the design. There are so many great features but also a few compromises, such as no driver display, no physical buttons and multi functional window controls. I suppose after time I would get used to it? I know they are all there to save money but still. Time will tell how it goes down. I hope you start to use manual focus a little more as the section showing the main screen wasn't great and quite often blurred due to the lens focusing on your finger and not the screen?

Thank you, great review. Question: i love small cars, had an electric mini, now older, retired want comfort and safety, which do you prefer the EX30 or the highland 3 RWD for myself and my wife and dog? Thank You in advance
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
The EX30 doesn’t have rear vents. For dogs, that’s a requirement, in my opinion. Both have dog mode, but I assume the Tesla one is more reliable and I know it has camera monitoring inside the car. They should be just as safe both of them, and they should be just as comfortable (the Volvo probably wins here but they’re really close, you sit higher in the EX30). Sound system in the Model 3 RWD should be way better. Please use my referral if you go for a Tesla, but I recommend test driving both.

Well I really liked your very detailed review. One thing I would like to ask you. I'm 176cm tall and would very much like to go camping with this car and sleep in it. If you move the front seat forward as much as possible what is the available length from front to back? (I assume it would be a bit more than the 176cm indicated when the seat is moved forward all the way?)
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
We are the same height! It shows that the length is exacly 176cm when the passenger seat is put forward. I doubt it would be very comfortable to sleep there, but possible in a pinch.

What would the rear seating be like, compared to a vw up?. We have one of these and alrhough not big it seems to accommodate 4 persons relatively ok.
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
This one will hold 4 people well. Even 5 if you are good friends. From what I remember, there is significantyl more rear seat room than the UP!.

Should be possible if the max length is less than around 180 cm.

Too many mistakes - the high level back lights are tail lights NOT brake lights, those are in the lower cluster; your "tow hitch" is a tyre compressor; you can't fit the toe hitch yourself - it's electrically deployed; you corrected yourself on the towing weight; the car interior is in base Indigo trim - the rear door pulls are the same in all trim levels - there's no difference in Ultra; the inside door handles ARE metal; there are speakers in the rear doors; the three other internal trims: Pine, Breeze and Mist all have seat back pockets, but not the base Indigo you have; the high level "hook"is actually a socket for the optional cargo net; again, you have the base interior not the "best"; no other reviewer has reported any issue with the pedals; the bottom right button on the left side of the steering wheel is a programmable buttonn not just to change the display (as you found out later); auto high beam isn't an "option" it's standard; the colour of the car on the display screen cannot be changed (yet). I'm surprised you didn't cover the Key Card and Key Tag, how it locks and unlocks, and the welcome lights.

Didn't you review the i3s as well? I believe you own that car. How does that compare overall? Granted it's an older car but still puts many newer cars to shame because it was so ahead of its time. Clearly the Volvo will be more up to date electronically, etc. but I'm more interested in fun, driving, etc. Yes..the Volvo will be quicker in the straights but overall...thoughts?
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
The Volvo EX30 is a much better product if we compare the new price of both. i3 is cheaper now and can be better value. Main things that are better with the EX30 are more EV-thinking on the design, faster charging, much more range. The interior is better as well (in my opinion).

Thank you for the nice video BUT I must ask you? The very serious question Ergonomics!! I think i3 is better!! This is a very beautiful car but Volvo missed the opportunity with simple driving ergonomics, just put a heads up display then I’d buy it! But frankly the i3 is probably better to drive anyway! Best regards 😜Btw love your passion and detail with reviews!!
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
I am used to the Model 3, so the lack of heads up / speedometer does not bother me at all. I do mention it though. The i3 is fantasticly fun, but not as comfortable.

most importantly is driving dynamics and simple ergonomics… I think a lot of manufacturers have lost that point especially now with EV’s.. that’s why I love my little i3s it’s simple but cool, it’s light and efficient, it looks like a little van but actually handles like a sports car!! 😊✅👍

While I appreciate the review I would do so even more if (a) you took the time to read the manual so you know what functions it has and (b) you take the time to concentrate on attention to detail e.g. I have seen the charging cable fitted into the ‘frunk’ before. It obviously doesn’t fit if you don’t take the time to fold it properly 😂
@stumbledotcom8 ай бұрын
You said the EX30 rear storage appears significantly larger. Yet the official numbers indicate they’re pretty close. Volvo lists cargo capacity as 318L and 904L with the rear seats folded, including 61L under the floor. Meanwhile BMW shows 260L and 1100L with rears down.
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
Manufacturers use different methods to get these numbers (some include the spaces that others dont). This one feels roomier than the i3 with the seats down. I think the cabin is considerably wider as well.
@stefanhaglund16658 ай бұрын
I snuck in to the showroom in kungsan in Stockholm and tried the rear seat. It was way too cramp to get all the good review it's getting. It is a dedicated ev with the same length 4,2 m as my current 2020 kona electric, which is not dedicated ev, and the old kona is much roomier in the rear. Sorry Volvo, you have failed.

With all the economy features, the EX30 is more a Dacia Spring and I wouldn't pay more than 25k for it. The car screams sacrifice at every turn and gives a cold, sober, emotionless impression. Perhaps Volvo believes that the brand name makes up for the lack of rest on the actual purchase price. If they haven't miscalculated.
@RoamingNorway8 ай бұрын
What?! I love the interior, it feels fantastic!
8 ай бұрын
@@RoamingNorway maybe it feels fantastic, OK. But otherwise the car is an example of how Tesla's economy policy is becoming more and more mainstream. I am extremely annoyed by the lack of a driver display, in the economy version of the Citroen E-C3 you have to bring your own mobile phone as infotainment has been completely omitted. And you pay a lot of money for all that. Where is this going, what else will the manufacturers come up with to save costs on their side, but the buyer will not benefit from this? Most of today's mobile phones no longer come with chargers (nobody needs them anyway), nor do they come with headphones, but they are more expensive than ever before.
