People are so Courteous in that country. Here in South Africa people wouldn't give you space or right of way like that. It's nice seeing humanity in your country.

Yeah, I've been traveling outside Norway often and rented cars, it feels more like its "You against Me" and not "Lets cooperate together". I believe it comes from driving outside cities in Norway, its rather dangerous, due to narrow bendy roads, mountain passes, terrible weather-road conditions, like icy, snowy roads. I'm under the impression this changes people to always be a little more defensive rather than, " me first, you later". Most things are nice here, except the roads!

Thanks Martin! Great video! So much learning about road rules as a trucker. Everyone on the road seems so supportive of trucks! Back here in India everyone just wants to cut trucks. I look like a fool when I give trucks right of way :P

Martin this was a fascinating drive. I've just passed my class 2 (category C) -rigid a few days ago and want to get into Class 1 (category C+E) and seeing you lug this load using this powerful Volvo was addictive (especially with low rumble of the engine in my headphones.) Hope to see much more of these vids and that I'll be looking out for big Scania drives you might happen to do... awesome!

Hehe, it was also very repetitive! Did the trip 7-8 times a day almost every day for two months which is 320 times basically :p , at the end I knew exactly how many seconds each traffic light used with the tram close and when it wasn't and other weird details one wouldn't otherwise care about. Congratulations on passing C! Or Class 2 as you call it in the UK. And maybe Ireland? Yeah driving what you would call articulated trucks (CE) are fun, but I'm guessing you don't use the type of trailer we use (which we call "slephenger"), very common in Norway, Sweden and Finland due our increased allowed max weights, but driving a drawbar trailer, you know, the same type you can pull on cars is normal training vehicles in the UK is it not? I wish you luck on a future job as a trucker, and with upcoming arti truck school?

Depends on what you need, and the terrain. Getting a FH16 750 with flat roads and low tonnage would not be very economic. But since we have both heavy load and lots of mountains and hills in Norway its the opposite, its rare to see anything below 540 HP. The 540 is probably the most common then the 730 V8 by Scania. Then the Volvo FH16. Mostly the 650 HP one.FH16 750 is the rarest of these large power trucks. Being a Scania fanboy I wish I could have driven the company truck with the V8 730 engine ^^

Powerful and very convenient,unfortunately my US 'volvo' is bullshit. I remember with nostalgia my last FH 12 in Europe,but I"ll be back soon.I consider to buy new one FH 540 dualclutch.
@martinsworld8678
@martinsworld8678 7 жыл бұрын
Crazy rambling ahead! haha.. Yes it is powerful, but it even had a turbo problem, it wouldn't give full pressure unless it had high rpm, the mechanics at Volvo changed it out, due to the low "mileage" and low age of the truck for free. I've always wondered how the American counterpart is, it seems ok, but heard it struggles with injector issues? EU Volvo engines don't really have issues, but unfortunately, due to being so advanced, it has as we call it in Norway, baby ailments, it has some electronic problems. But the power, torque, ride comfort and general safety systems makes it a very good truck. We all have preferences, some love Volvo, and then there are Scania people, at least in Norway its basically either Volvo or Scania. There are some MANs, Mercedes-Benz trucks here and there. Me, I'm a Scania person, no doubt about it. Who cannot love the brutal sounds of a V8 :) I had the chance to test a FH 500 with DC, it was outta this world! It was like being in a car with DSG automatic like VW cars or any double clutch car, shifts so fast, you feel no power loss, or that tilting and bending back and forth of the cab, that you get when accelerating. The steering is also electric, super smooth, but I'd say also dangerous if you come from Scania, your mind thinks it needs to use more force, when its possible to drive with a single finger, even when reversing with load. I would say its a good purchase if you ever moving back, and buy a Volvo.
@georgigeorgiev6933
@georgigeorgiev6933 7 жыл бұрын
Martin, you're so right there! The struggles with injectors are never ending. The reason behind this is, is the "American corn fuel". This why we also have issues with catalytic system. This is why I've been so pissed off, because of all these reasons, they're good business but not for us, just for the manufacturers.Three months ago I changed the turbo after 1M miles but the problem wasn't the turbo itself, it was the injectors. Eight years ago I bought the truck brand new but for 1M, this is the 4th set of injectors which costed a lot of money and down time. About my decision to go back to Europe, the business climate has changed here, despite Uncle Donald's efforts. I hope in the following April I'll have the chance to visit Gotheborg and to buy my desired Volvo. All the best to you and keep on making these fun to watch videos!

Oh I like the raw power of the Volvo, there is no denying that, driving with legal weights on the highway, I don't always need to keep max throttle to keep the speed in hills. And I also start to overtake trucks from Europe that are loaded with 40 ton, when I'm at 51 tons thats what I notice the most about being in the 750. And thanks :) I appreciate that.

That depends on brand. But the trailer height is by euro standards, some are higher, some are lower, but 1150 mm (1,150 meters) is the norm, the trucks in Europe can adjust height as well. A usual span from 900 mm to over 1500 mm.

@martinsworld8678

Yeah you see this has to do with the force the engine brake have when you're unloaded it can be violent! Therefore Volvo have the engine / exhaust brake enabled by a button on the retarder handle! No the FH16 line of Volvo trucks does not come with Dual Clutch, yet. Maybe it will in the future! And no this truck was new 6 months before that option was available. Thanks for watching!

@martinsworld8678 6 жыл бұрын
This is 20 meters long. Can't drive with 25 meters inside the city, two reasons its to long! And its not legal with those weights in the city streets. That said we, drive the weight you can have on 25 meters legally on the 20 meter :D but we have special permission to drive with these crazy loads in the city. Our limit is 60 (62) ton, the normal legal limit is 50 (52), and most of the city streets up to the mill is at 1-4 % incline pretty steep when you have to start from a standstill!

Yeah 25,25meters is way too long for driving in city centre. It is prohibited also in Helsinki. Only certain roads or special permission can allow that.

@erikrussi5095 6 жыл бұрын
25 meters is perfectly fine in most places, of course you need to avoid the very center of larger cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg and some residential areas. Just use common sense and intuition were to go and not to go, it is part of everyday life as a trucker in Sweden and Finland.

Hello from Sweden, just subscribed! Im thinking about becoming a truck driver, im soon to be 20, and at 21 I can take CE if I want to. I just uploaded some videos where im reversing this style of truck+trailer in Euro Truck Simulator 2, if you have any tips I would really appriciate it! Articulated trucks are quite easy to reverse (at least in euro truck) but reversing a box truck with dolly trailer is much more challaning xD
@martinsworld8678
@martinsworld8678 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Wiikendz. If you plan on becoming a truckdriver, I wish you good luck with that, I'm sure you'll find it cool. Yes reversing a semi is easier than a dolly trailer in real life, but is usually harder than you think, because there are massive blindspots, actually lets call it blind sides, because you often only have 1 mirror that you can use the other mirror is blocked by only being able to see your trailer, this is not as crazy in a dolly trailer it will never do that. So the risk of hitting something in your massive 17-meter blind-side is high. And no matter the trailer type, you are always blind directly behind the trailer. In the start, I highly suggest you ask a person willing to help you for 2-3 mins so they can stop you if you are about to hit something. I did this and I was once saved from hitting a stupid street sign that way. But most people won't have time or care to help you, so its to be considered a daily bonus! ^^ But if you want good tips and tricks with real videos I highly suggest you check out the Drivingbro channel, he is a Swede too, from the Stockholm area and a youtuber with many reversing videos of both semi-trailer and dolly trailer. In fact try get in contact with him, I'm sure he could help you find a job should you live anywhere near him! Again, good luck!

Is this truck shifting automaticlly or you do it manually and if its automatic, can you change to manual or something like that, that always bothered me, and as you can see I dont know much about trucks. Greetings from Republic of Srpska :)
@martinsworld8678
@martinsworld8678 6 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yes the truck is an automated manual. Most trucks are. It means that its basically an asynchronous manual gearbox, but connected to it is a computer and mechanism that shifts automatically without any driver input. So you put the truck in "Drive" and it does all the work. You can also put it in "Manual" then you have full control of the gearbox and you have to shift manually, its a knob on the gear shifter itself, not visible in this video. Then you need to shift each gear up and down yourself. Often useful if you don't want the truck to shift gear in the middle of hill or something like that, because you lose momentum, a pretty important thing in a truck both for acceleration and fuel economy. Republic of Srpska, I had not heard about it, so had to google that, and realized its one of the two states in Bosnia-Hercegovina, is that correct?

@@piy_pay2912 No, I was not comfortable. I was still stressed being a new driver. And the truck was not making it easier by being so hard to drive. The servo was also very crappy. Reversing the truck was near impossible and ordinary steering was heavier than all other trucks I had ever driven.

The FH steering could be much improved by increasing the power assist as manoeuvring speeds. I find it a real pain to back, or otherwise steer with one hand, especially when heavy. Fundamental design mistake. Scania is so much better in this regard.

Oh a difficult question depends on which qualities one think is the most important. Safety, durability, driving comfort etc. One thing is VERY clear, European Volvo is probably 10x safer than American Kenworth. And equally in the favor of the Kenworth, its much more durable than Euro Volvo.

Yes, but in Norway we have a law against having to little engine power, the ratio is 5.25 kW or 7.1 horsepowers per ton which means you need a minimum of 267 hp for the legal maximum in Norway at 50 metric tons. But since we run heavier than that in the city all the way up to 70 tons, a overweight of 20 tons :P you need 360hp at least! Then you need to have a certain acceleration, all the grain trucks I've seen are from 540-750hp, many are tuned, one of the drivers had a tuned R730 up to 900hp it is a beast! I'm not gonna run this in the google translator its probably gonna make no sense!

Maybe you've heard about it differently, for example a 2 liter inline 4 cylinder engine? A pretty standard configuration of car engines. Anyway this is intermediate physics, not something everybody eithre cares about or in fact care about. The truck is not mine, it is a company truck, but I believe my boss got a awesome deal, he bought two trucks at once, one FH 540 and this FH16 750, so he paid the same price as the FH 540 which is a 13 liter engine. I believe that was around 1.5 million NOK, with the special container, made out of steel and glassfiber. I believe the full price is well over 2 million NOK or if Euro is something you'd understand better 213.300 Euro.
