Volvo Penta AQ170 After Restoration

After it was determined that the Chrysler Carvel was not worth taking any further, I took the Volvo AQ170 and listed it for sale. It was purchased by a boat shop in California and was put into a commerical sport fisherman boat that has twin AQ170's.

Could you tell me what wires are connected to the coil and what are the two wires from the distributor mine are black and green. Someone masquerading as a boat technician replaced the wires in mine and screwed it up. I would also add that they tried to make every wire red to save money.

Get rid of the ballast resister they stuff out and take a power leads coil and a spark plug out you can get a coil that replaces the coil and ballast resister the small white ceramic block on the side of the coil if it breaks it will short out you're electrical system

I know this was 7 years ago I'm trying to adjust valves on one just like it do you happen to have any information I haven't pulled the cover off is it a cold adjustment or is it a running adjustment? And do you know the specs that would be so awesome if you had any information

um i need some parts the volvo parts place says i need serial number and looked online saying where it is i found 2 raised areas on the block on port right between the fuel pump and the distributor with punch stamped numbers (can see it in your video) not molded in block is that it?

I'm going to assume this is the same motor in the 1967 wellcraft boat I just got. Looks exactly the same. Runs good but needs a tune up. What kind of plugs and wires do I need?

Did you ever tune your engine up? I got a boat with the same engine and haven't had it started yet. I wanted to do a little work to it first to try to give the best chance of firing up

is that water pump modified? I notice there's an impeller on the gearshaft, and the OEM water pump is bypassed

Nope that is a Volvo Marine engine for you. The older Volvo Penta engine has the impeller pump mounted to the crankshaft / front pulley area and or timing cover.

eBay is the best place to find one. Or a local alternator rebuild shop. Providing the core is good.

@@macanthony6526 i found a junkyard special, entire engine and prop to rob off of. Also check ebay. Get the schematic of the engine for all the part numbers and go from there.

Hello. I have a problem with the carburetor setting . The engine runs on 50 % of the turnover when I give a minimum engine off . When you add violently turnover often he shoots from the carburetor . What should be the gap returns to the cold ?

I wish I had the answers for you. This was an interesting engine to work on. You have to make sure first your engine is in good health, timing, compression, and ignition. Then move to the carbs. They are a pain to adjust to get synched. but I do not remember the settings. I literally tuned it by ear, which is hard to do if it is in the water. Much easier on muffs.

You going to have to purchase used somewhere. Probably eBay. See if it is cross reference to another Volvo set up that can be searched too
