what a beauty! I have the same engine on my sailboat. I was surprised to see how little vibration you get, mine is shaking a lot especially when idling. I wonder if it's due to the different mounting (mine is suspended on silent blocks) or if I may have a piston misfiring or something causing unbalance.

It may shake if you have very soft mountings or a broken mounting. But also check for puffs of white exhaust smoke at idle speed, that usually indicates un-burned diesel and a misfire happening.

Hi Neseng (or others who could comment on the issue), I have got the same engine and in the 2:37 part of your video I noticed that there is a transparent tube (filled with a small amount of oil, I assume) you coming out of the gear box. Do you mind telling me about the purpose of it please? I am asking because I have always some oil accumulating in exactly the same place of my gear box. is that perhaps a solution for the same problem? Thank you

Hi, I believe that there should be a short bolt and washer screwed into that hole, possibly to retain an 'indent' ball and spring so that the reverse mechanism 'clicks' into reverse/neutral/forward. However I may be wrong. I only fitted the short clear tube to capture oil while I was making the video of the engine running. I would suggest seeing if there is a spring and ball in the hole. If there is, then fit a short set bolt and fibre washer to the hole which should stop any oil escaping.

@@NormanSurgeon Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I talked to an experienced marine mechanic today; he told me that there was a double-sided washer in there that causes the leak. He also warned me that I should be very careful when taking the lid; first not to drop inside any of the reverse T shaped part also to make sure to note the position of the "wings" of that reverse T because one part of the wing is shorter than the other.
