Most of you might say "this isn't Volvo's biggest flaw man, they have so many other flaws that are worse man, you guys lied to me!" Our answer is: you're right, but in your own way. Every car has their own problems, disaster repair problems, and just overall quarks. Our biggest issue after doing a big turbo upgrade has been the chase of vacuum leaks. More boost, more problems! But that doesn't mean its a bad thing. It can help you solve future problems by attacking them before they attack you and leave you stranded on the side of the road. Either way, we can all agree the throttle body gasket was more than ready to be changed.
Thanks for watching!

I thought the high rev in the beginning was intentional until I saw that it wasn’t😬😬

Nice car. P2 Volvos have some hiccups here and there. If you take care of the old rubber hoses and lines and change the fuel filter. They are much happier and less prone to random check engine lights. The MAF probably doesn't like that intake either but shouldn't be a problem just needs to be cleaned more.

The car has its proper tunes to accommodate a bigger turbo and all the modifications to it! It’s weird that Volvos have their own little hiccups, but it’s very interesting to figure them out!🤣

All the volvos I've owned over the years had the same problem, boost leaks and vacum leaks, three 2.0 t5 and two 2.3 T5,

They’re very particular with vacuum leaks. Very, very annoying and can lead you in a huge chase…🤬

I have a 5 cyl v50 from 2005. I had some small intake leak. I just removed the hose clamp on the throttle and then removed the intake manifold. 1 hose clamp and 8 screws. No big deal. Although mine doesn't have a turbo.

The turbo models are 100 times more complicated vs the non turbo! Very cluttered and stuff happening everywhere; but the 5 cylinders in general are a pain to work on sometimes!😤

Currently chasing a boost leak I believe on my t5 08 c30. Very annoying. I took it to a shop and they said they couldnt pinpoint anything. I asked if they even drove it because it's incredibly obvious especially when it just hisses at you between 2-3k rpm. Thinking of biting the bullet on a smoke machine. Maybe I should try some soapy water. Cheers.
@WhipGetters
@WhipGetters Жыл бұрын
Another idea is to check your MAF sensor as they could also cause the same issue proceeding. And we’re surprised the shop didn’t have a smoke machine to help find the issue. Normally they would to solve headaches on these turbo cars. It might save you time and headaches yourself to smoke it. Soapy water may not work as well as you might think. We thought the same with ours, but it wasn’t as good as we thought for Volvo. We hope this helps and you get the car fixed soon!👍

I got a question hopefully someone can help, so I got a 2000 Volvo s80 t6 and I went to start it up today and it has a really rough idle keeps bouncing between 1k and 2k rpms I have no lights on the dash and my code reader says there is nothing. What should I do any tips on where to start?
@WhipGetters
@WhipGetters 3 ай бұрын
You could starter with your ignition coils, your spark plugs and your mass airflow sensor. If those are all good you should check for a vacuum leak somewhere. Volvos are very pesky with vacuum leaks, that will definitely cause spikes in rpm jumping and they don’t throw check engine lights.

Possibly check for vacuum leaks. Your throttle body gasket could be bad, gaskets in general might be bad, or check your vacuum!

Help. Just did the head gascket on my s70 Turbo . New Bosh Air flow sensor in but when remove the air flow sensor connector engine dosnt stop running
@WhipGetters
@WhipGetters Жыл бұрын
On these cars just removing the MAF sensor won’t kill the engine or have it stop running. Normally, like in our case with our S60, when you unplug the MAF sensor it will make the car run at a default ECU map. We have a vacuum leak on ours. If we plug in the mass airflow sensor which is supposed to be how the car runs, it slowly gets to a point where it shuts off. We unplug the sensor, it doesn’t die. It runs at a default mode and keeps running. Hopefully this helps you understand how it works!

How did you guys come to the conclusion that it was that gasket? My Volvo S60 2.5t sputters and dies if I plug my maf in. Replaced the maf and no change.
@WhipGetters
@WhipGetters Жыл бұрын
Well at the time it was that. Fixed all the vacuum leaks recently, but still having horrible issues like that. We’ve realized it’s the fuel pump now and are replacing it to see if it fixes!

My dads xc70 d5 made a whistling noise when the turbo was making a mid ammount of boost. He tought that it was normal. I've checked the vacuum hoses and found a hose that had a big hole. I changed it for a new one and its good now. When im turning 17 and get my license i will get a p2 platform volvo

Being the age you are and having knowledge of cars and Volvo cars in general is a lucky thing to have! If you can fix that, you will be able to fix anything on these P2 platform Volvos!

@@WhipGetters thanks! I'm really interested in cars especially in volvos. Im currently planning to tune a d5 diesel engine(163hp). Like those engines are so underrated... you can upgrade the injectors to the 185hp ones and throw a gtb2060 turbo and of corse a tune and youre looking at a reliable 260hp and over 650nm!! Btw love your volvo videos!

Thanks for being so supportive! We’ve always wanted to take a diesel motor and mess around with it. They’re not so normal in the states though. If you’re with us later on in our life cycle, let us know what you’ve done!🤟

You don't disconnect or reconnect the MAF sensor while the engine is running. 🤦‍♀
