Volvo S60 2014 Road Test + Sensus Connected Touch Review

We've hopped behind the wheel of the new 2014 Volvo S60 -- a saloon that Volvo reckons can challenge the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. We also took some time to check out the new Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system with Spotify. But are they any good?

Does Volvo really market the S60 as a 3 Series/C-Class competitor? Volvo's marketing always just seems to push the car itself rather than make comparisons (like A4 v. 3 Series v. C-Class).

Mate, you should have a look at the V60 Polestar edition D5 AWD, if you need some better looks and power which you are complaining about. Also, it seems you tested one with the more basic interior... hence the "ikea interior". The more luxurious interior (leather ect) is in the same class as a BMW or Mercedes.

If you want more power just buy more powerful engine, Its same procedure in all cars, in mercedes or bmw too.

+RecombuCars I like your drive tests, but dude, this one really is not that great, not because of your style, but because you didnt chose to drive the right S60. I mean D2 115HP? thats what my wife has on her V40, as you said, the entry level, with such a car you dont chose the entry level, or if you have to you dont compare it to sport cars. the right S60 is the T5, or even better the new T6 with supercharger and turbocharger and geartronic 8 in AWD configuration.

My Dad got a D2 SE with Pearlescent paint and the winter kit with 5000 miles on the clock for £15600. I think that was a Bargain

LOL whatever Volvo Dealership that he worked with gave him the T-Tec Interior...then he complains about luxury....Volvo fully loaded will easily be more bang for the buck compared to germans, their warranties are solid as well...depending on the dealership and their quality of service. Build quality defeats the germans hands down though

very good review overall, but why would you compare this auto with a 3 series or c class unless you had gotten it with a proper engine. i got this auto, t5 model with the 5 cylinder. that one has 250 hp and 265 torque, definitely has great pick up. wish you would've mentioned the instrument panel with is very stylish!!

That engine is not available in europe... In europe the only petrol engines are ford 1.6 ecoboost and 2 litre 4-cyl with 254 or 306 hp.

mr13377 It fucking is available ! You go into Volvo, tell them what engine you want and they will get it for you. I got my T6 3.0 (coming up from a 2008 S60R) strait away, but my friend wanted the good old T5 and Volvo were more than happy to oblige and spec it for him. He did have to wait around 9 weeks if my memory serves me right though.

volvo pls help yourself with the auto headlights and auto wiper come as standard. my 2003 lexus rx which is a 11yo car come as standard. and leg room are really poor. beside that im happy with my new s60

I have owned two BMW's. I find their interiors very disappointing. The engines and handling sold me though. Second to none. Well not including ultra high end anyways. For me the best interiors looks wise are Audi, Mercedes, New Volvos, Lexus, Acura then BMW. Love exterior looks of Bimmers though. BMW interiors are high build quality but not nice looking relative to the aforementioned IMO.

this is hilarious. "quality feel?" Well that certainly doesn't reflect the CLA and 3 series these cars compete against. The only thing "quality" about them is the repair bills which are outrageously high. Also, a T6 equipped model will outrun the equivalent BMW, Mercedes or Audi, especially if you consider price. I think Volvo's only true competitor will become Cadillac.

Soft touch plastic. You get what you pay for, and with volvo you pay for amazing safety, decent performance and good quality, durable soft touch plastics. It is only the S60, V60 and XC60 affected by that though, in the other models it is a more premium and less sporty feeling,

Gordon Mccracken I know, If anything I prefer a Volvo Interior over that of a BMW. Bm's just feel a little too cockpit in your face and cheap. The Volvo is absolutely miles ahed of any German manufacturers in terms of comfort. The best seats in the industry ! (excluding rolls royce and Maybach of course ;))

Frank Fencepost Volvo also uses a good deal of real metal - aluminum etc, as opposed to "metal look" trims in interiors. It's a nice difference. And their whole aesthetic is uncluttered, clean design, which delivers a very intuitive cockpit array.
