Thank you, for sharing this. Very helpful! My 2006 XC70, has been acting up like this, intermittently. I get 2 codes that come up, and then it's ok, for a while. I get PO101 and P0170 codes, from the OBD ll. After doing a smoke test, I replaced the MAF and air filter, and it ran great. Got the car inspected, and it acted up, again. Same codes, too. I'm hoping, this will correct it.

Having starting issues now with an 09 s80 v8. Replaced the Fuel Pressure sensor. Check engine light went off, came back, but is off again. After the sensor, noticed an improvement in acceleration/power but the starting issue returned almost immediately. Local shop said it could be the pump prior to doing the sensor. Anywhere to look other than the fuel pump at this time?

Sounds like it is fuel pump related. Pump probably not holding proper pressure.

I'm getting fuel pressure at the schrader valve which lends me to believe that it isn't fuel pump or fuel pressure sensor related but I wanted to know what you'd recommend, if this is a symptom of a bad pressure sensor or a PEM?

@@motorcarnut haha get this, I put a new starter relay in and attempted to start it, the cars screen on the dash said the immobilizer activated and I heard a single click from the front. Switched the old starter relay back in and it started up.

I have a 2010 s80. It normally takes 5-8 cranks to start. Recently however it’s had two different issues. 1 either not starting but just continually cranking (good battery) or 2. I go to start it and entire car loses power interior/dash/etc and won’t come back/start until I hook up a jump pack (still a good battery). Any ideas? Especially on what’s going on for the car to completely lose power just to start right back up perfectly when a jump pack is hooked up?

Check the passenger side hood latch the one with the alarm wiring. That can give you the both problems and a known problem on Volvos.

2012 Volvo S60 T6. Automatic transmission downshifts hard 30-20mph. Scanner reads #5 cylinder misfire. Replaced ignition coil with Volvo part. Still having same issue. Is there a DIY way to check if the coils are working properly? I have another new Volvo coil and new plugs but haven’t installed parts yet. Thanks

Check compression on that cylinder first, if it’s good than make sure the injector is making noise while running. If you can connect the ignition coil while out of the cylinder just put the spark plug in and ground the plug

I had 1996 850 owned 10 yrs and now 2004 s60 owning since 2016 i had stalling problem on s60 three times once about 7 years ago then three years ago and now had it towed and i just let it sit i unplug mass air flow sensor and also i rotate the on board computer scroll and push and hold rest few seconds each time it fix the problem(it located on other side of signal)and ran for Years flawless and then it would happen did the same again ran flawless for years now it stalled few times in months but started rightback and ran.Last night stalled no start had it towed and parked still have not figured out owned my 850 10yrs put 80 k miles s60 8yrs 8 yrs Put 80k miles .Never replaced any parts but this time might be serious.

I have volvo s60 from 2002. When I drive it hardly accelerates, at a speed of 20 kmph or lower, when decelerating slowly, it makes a loud noise and often shuts off. When it shouts off, it turns on only after the second or third try. It also sometimes won't turn on after being turned off for longer period of time. I gave it for a check but I was told everything seems to be fine. I'm not very clever in this area, but I did a little research and I think it's due to the sensor. Can I just get a confirmation if I'm right? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the valve timing is off. Also can be fuel related. If you have any codes start there.

Did you check the fuel pressure sensor first? And the location can be both places. I had some that were under the rear drivers seat and outside under the vehicle. No clear answer, Volvo loves to keep things a mystery .

Could be you warped the cylinder head, did you have it machined before reinstalling it?

I have a 2004 S60 2.5T and she wont start. Changed the starter and started up find but next day just the click was back. Changed relay and tightened up everything but then got a hard crank and rough idle or it just clicks (hit or miss on starting) she threw a code of "fuelsysa ol fault", can you help me with this? I dont know where to go from here and cannot find any info on it. Also, I was going to change fuel pump but it was nowhere to be found so assuming it's in the fuel tank on my model. Also before the no start, every now and then after putting gas, she would start to randomly die and have a hard time starting back up. Thank you for your time and would really appreciate any help!!

my car had ECM problem, i got replacement and it starts but very long crank. when it has been driven it struggles to start up again (when it is warm i think) takes maybe 20 attempts to start but runs fine do you think ECM related issue? before ECM it didnt have this issue

loss of power sometimes for 5 sec then sometimes repeatedly a few times while driving at various speeds hwy an city but doesnt die just comes back. shows codes of misfire on all 5 cylinders as well as evap codes exhaust gas codes and fuel rail pressure sensor high input code 2.5l turbo 2006 xc70. determined small split in intercooler top hose one. how likely is it to be the hose causing the ecm to send more fuel or bad readings throughout compared to being something like the fuel rail pressure regulator or fuel filter? check engine light came on then went off an hasnt came back on since. car has hardtime in cold starts but when warmed up drives ok. was boggy an lack of power but seems to be off an on.

Very likely, you can't have any vacuum leaks. Computer is only as smart as the information it receives so if something is leaking it will throw everything off.

@connortoop5557 I don't remember what fixed it I've changed charge pipe wasn't sealed right when I bought it there was metal in the hose that didnt sit an curved the pipe in back of motor replaced to right size battery 800+ and changed fuel pressure regulator

3 coils or spark plugs won’t all fail at the same time. Check for vacuum leaks and valve timing is correct

Hi, I just had a loads of work done to my 2004 d5 v70, service etc, I was driving put my foot down then engine system service required came on, I stopped turn car off and on cause it’s thrown up random faults before but not this one, then after about 5 miles it happened again then lost power and cut out, it cranks over and ridle goes up a tad but won’t turn on, does this sound like a sensor ?

@@motorcarnut that’s exactly what I’ve done waiting for Monday for them to examine the car, I haven’t got a code reader and the car hasn’t got any messages, I’ve gone to the car today and turned it on surprisingly it turned on and idled rough, I think it’s injector as it has rough idle and injector knock from sounds of it, no engine light or faults on dash

Would have to be hooked up to a scan tool and see what’s going on. Usually with a no start condition you have to check for spark, fuel and compression.

Greetings, Thank for replying. I checked the fuel rail and two fuel lines underneath the vehicle. I can hear the buzz/humm of the fuel pump turning on but no pressure out of the lines underneath and I used starting fluid to verify a fuel issue.

Are there any components that would stop the fuel pump from operating? It has an evap pump not sure if that would effect the pressure or not. Fuses all check out.

I have a 2004 Volvo s60 2.5t AWD. I went to go change this sensor but it is not on the fuel rail. The release valve is on the right side of the fuel rail, but there is nothing on the other side. Any idea where the sensor might be located?

@@motorcarnut the valve itself is the pressure sensor??? Because it’s just a valve similar as the valve on a tire. There is no electrical connector.

No, not there. When looking at the engine from the front of the car you’ll see the front black plastic cover on top of the engine right of the boost pipe it’s a gray sensor on the side of the fuel rail. I haven’t worked on a 2004 for a while but that’s where it should be.

@@motorcarnut for some reason it is not there, and it seems like someone might have made some adjustments more similar to a 2.4t engine instead of a 2.5T where the sensor is on the left side underneath one of the top left engine block plastic covers. No problem, must be because according to the shop manual that's where it should be, try looking for one on the engine near the fuel rail that looks like it, it's got to have one.

The map sensor problem will cause the engine to stall but that code was probably from the inter cooler pipe coming loose. Try clearing all codes first and see what comes back

Make sure you didn’t cut any wires when you went into the ditch. Anything get wet? Could of blown a fuse, could check that out too.

Hey just got a 2006 s60 volvo 2.5t n so the starter was messed up when I got it so it didn’t start and so I replaced the starter and ignition coils and spark plugs just to be safe but then to find out the battery is from 2017 we still tried getting it to start but it won’t when I tried to turn the car on when I first got it n heard nothing when I got the new starter it’s tried to turnover but won’t and we also tried letting the battery charge but still wouldn’t turn on any advice on wat it could be?

@@christopherybarra3048 No. The filter is a filter. The pressure sensor detects the fuel pressure and regulates the fuel pump speed or turns it on and off as needed.

And some post-facelift P2 Volvos have no separate fuelfilter. My 2002 V70 does but my 2007 V70 it's part of the fuel pump for the California market.

Could be a fuel problem. If it runs good for those 10 seconds it’s probably not electrical but hard for me to speculate without the car in front of me.
