JUST did my Volvo S60, actually lost a ball joint @70MPH. I ended up having to replace my passenger side axle as the axle separated during the sudden ball joint failure. I replaced the strut as well and of course the ball joint. I bought the strut as a complete assembly including the spring. The cost wasn't that much different. Anyway- it was my first rodeo when it came to front suspension and videos like this made it possible. Thank you again for taking the time to do these. Well done.

Props and respect for showing the strut assembly the old school way instead of the quick struts thats already fully assembled..a lot of mechanics these days are afraid to take it apart and always suggest the easier way with quick struts but you sir are a Boss in showing the correct way to disassemble and reassemble the parts👍👍

Thanks! Complete (quick) struts on these European cars are expensive; hence the motivation to disassemble and just replace the strut and mount.

People, you must use the special ball joint remover/installer tool! This youtuber, like many others, has damaged the hub carrier, stretched the ball joint bolts, and potentially damaged the threads of the aluminum hub carrier (i.e. knuckle).

I would get Sachs speed strut assembly. $250. Impact destroys acme threads. Did that on my jack.
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 4 жыл бұрын
Sachs is the OEM provider for Volvo and is a pricey strut. There are other quality replacements at a cheaper price such as Monroe or Gabriel. The weak point in the Volvo strut is the upper spring seat which is mis-diagnosed as a bad strut. If the seat isn't replaced, there'll still be suspension noise.

Good video but i you should have tightend the lower control arm bolts ( wich has bushings) at the right ride height ,,, this way puts a lot of stress on them and will break much earlyer , also tighten the shock bracket on top when they have the load of the vehicle.

@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 5 жыл бұрын
The parts providers Sachs and KYB are major OEM parts producers for auto manufacturers. I listed KYB struts because Sachs tend to be harder to come by and are more expensive. If their prices seem too much, you can try your luck with Monroe, Gabriel, OSC and FCS (assume they're all made in China). If price is not an issue and want to get the best handling out of your car, go with Bilstein. Uro is a major European parts provider under A.P.A. Industries Inc. Their pricing is more than reasonable and the fit / finish of their replacement parts consistent. Never, ever had problems with Uro parts. Hope you find this useful.

@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 3 жыл бұрын
The OEM is Sachs ... which is very expensive but an excellent strut / shock. KYB is just as good and maybe cheaper. Nothing wrong with Monroe and Gabriel for a less expensive alternative.

If you're talking about the CV boot(s), they don't need replacement until after they split. Most people, however, do not bother to re-boot. They just buy a replacement axle.

@@hardlymovingpro can you forward me instructions on how to do this ?
@hardlymovingpro
@hardlymovingpro 4 жыл бұрын
@@WJOHNJRB You'll have to find another youtube video author who did the job. From my recollection, the upper strut mount is integrated or is part of the upper control arm. So you'll have to detach the control arm from the steering knuckle before moving out the strut assembly. After that, the spring compression and strut replacement is pretty much the same as other strut replacement procedures.
