There are four different combinations of Pads and Rotors that were assigned to Volvo S90's. Be careful and use the VIN to confirm what came with your car. I had to have L&B Auto email Volvo to tell me what Pads and Rotor Part Numbers were needed for my car.
When looking at Volvo Parts stores, they use the same pictures and part numbers and the description might even ID the normal ID for your car like Model Year, Make, and Model but again be careful.

I have a 2018 S90 and an XC90. I’ve had to replace brakes each time I go to the dealer. They have 43k miles and 28k miles respectively. I bought them with 18/20k. The dealer tells me S90/XC90s chew through brakes pretty quickly, around 30-40k miles. I know how to do them myself, and will save me about $2,000 for a full brake job. Thanks for the video, wanted to see someone else do it first!

I keep hearing this, which is why I'm completely lost as to how my XC90 has 52k and I go to replace the brakes on it and they aren't even half gone. I only decided to replace because I was noticing some shake when I slow down from higher speeds, but my rotors look and feel great too. I took the brakes off and just couldn't believe how much pad was left on all 4 tires. The back tires were slightly more wore down than the front but still had plenty of wear left. I have a 2019 XC90 T8.

Great video! I recognize that this is a two year old video, but I gotta say you got a very good deal on your original Volvo OEM parts. Pads here are $145 and rotors ~ $200 each. Thanks for putting it together.

Really helpful video. I did notice that at around 10:00, the washer behind the axle bolt looks loose when you start hammer the rotor. It looks like the axle bolt isn't tightened all the way for some reason.
@ABa-uo4zu
@ABa-uo4zu 4 жыл бұрын
Tight your axle bolt. It's loose which can cause you some vibration. Use threadlocker (blue) and tight it to spec. My S90 axle bolts were completely loose. Probably the factory is forgetting to tighten these bolts or the factory threadlocker is not strong. Check all the sides as well.

I would add this - be careful and do not cross thread with the guide bolts. Mine were cross threaded by whoever did the last brake job. Had to buy new brackets. Screw them by hand as much as you can before using torque wrench.

Thanks for this video. It really helped me understand how to do this. The rotors came with instructions for 145.5 ft-lbs or 200 NM for the Caliper bracket and 42 ft-lbs or 57 NM for the caliper slide bolts. For me, my slide bolts were 11mm, which threw me off because I didn't have that size.

7:40 Check out the rocker panel trim in the left half of the screen. The lowermost (and innermost) screw holding the rocker panel trim on - funky - look like the rocker panel trim got caught on something and pulled out of the screw area.

I do not know where I purchased mine but, you can look on Amazon and shop around. You will need an M14x1.5 and I recommend getting a pair. Look for as many features as you can find; knurled, tool space for a socket or Allen, stainless steel, a good thread length and overall length. Keep one or both in the trunk ... Just in case you need them when mounting your spare tire. GL and thank you for watching my videos.

If you put you VIN into websites like volvopartswebstore, the will comfirm the parts before shipping them out. Also, Volvo has stablized there inventory and typically multiple sizes are no longer available. The pads are the same for all models.

Thanks for this video! ☺ I just took delivery of a 2018 volvo s90 t5 momentum and just driving it around 50 or 60 mph I feel a vibration coming from driver side wheel. I was thinking it might be the wheel bearing or maybe the pads and rotors?
@A_Renaissance_Man
@A_Renaissance_Man 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. IMO I would think that the wheel bearing is too young ti be making noise and the rotor is more likely the suspect. The only way to tell is to take the wheel off and inspect the components. I have found the front brakes are used up quickly because of the cruise control setting forcing the brakes to be activated to hold the speed at the setting. Good luck and enjoy your very nice car.

@@A_Renaissance_Man Thanks for quick reply! Car is a looker it got 50k miles😊 I figured it was that then I had a 2008 prius with a bad wheel bearing and it was really loud. Bad rotors and pads might be the suspect. Although I checked the service history and only rears were done and haven't touch the front pads gonna inspect it tommrow. But this is definitely easier then my last car C300 w205 sport brakes, this job is similar to a camry ☺

Hey, recently I replaced the front rotors for my 19 v60 crosscountry with OE parts due to brake pulsation. And applied anti seize to my pads contacting point with the carrier. ( so I did remove the calliper from the carrier) Since I did this work my from brakes start clunking when braking while turning. Have this ever happened to you? Do you have any suggestions what might be wrong?
@A_Renaissance_Man
@A_Renaissance_Man 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for asking. In my opinion, you are describing CV axial noise. However, if this is related to the work you did then the pads or caliper could have been installed in correctly or have become loose. I recommend a reinspection of the work and perhaps the problem will reveal itself.
@yexind.4088
@yexind.4088 2 жыл бұрын
@@A_Renaissance_Man it ended up with I went a Volvo dealer close by and asked one of their senior tech, who told me it’s the anti seize I used on pads caused the noise then he gave a tube of Volvo silicone grease. I cleaned it up, applied the grease I got, then the noise got fixed. That was a big surprise! I would never thought of that

@@A_Renaissance_Man - Unfortunately, that’s not the case for my 2017 V90 Cross Country. The KZbin posts have mentioned several different sizes. Last I heard, 11mm is the correct size. I have a 10mm and it was too small. Perhaps there are several different sizes for the same model, like rotors?
