this is a good video. i know how to change pads and rotors from other cars but i used this yesterday, especially to help me know which size tools to grab. the only thing i would add to this is to tell people to open the brake fluid reservoir and to make sure it doesn't overflow when they compress their pistons. if i hadn't been watching mine, it would have overflowed.

Thanks. Got my parts from FCP and other than having to find that 11 mm hex bit it was a breeze. Saved at least $350 vs dealer quote.

Thanks for the video, this helped me identify the 11mm hex key that I need for the calipers. I already purchased the brakes and just found your video so unfortunately I didn't get them from your site. I will take note of your site for future parts. Thanks again!

Great video . Question, should we bleed the brakes after this install?

Unless you have a leak or the reservoir is low enough to let air into the brake lines, there is no need. 👍🏻

Brilliant video - maybe a silly question, but just want to double check, would this information relate to an XC90 bought in the UK.

Hi Bobby, the general idea should be relatively the same! Different drivelines not available in the U.S. may opt for different hardware.

For this system on the XC90, you want to be sure to have it as to keep noise and vibrations down!

I've done a lot of brake jobs in my life. Happened across this video to help me diagnose a bit of a brake sound I didn't like in my 2019 S60. This was by far the best brake service video I've ever seen. Excellent camera work. Just the right amount of detail. No longer than it needed to be. Perfect. (and I think my issue is a low inner pad)

Pretty outstanding instructions, guidance, demonstration and video filming and production - you can only be proud of your work as most of us can only be grateful for the same. You should consider expanding outside North America!

Bonjour. J'ai un Volvo V60 eDrive. J'ai changé les disques et les plaquettes arrières mais ils frottent un petit peu. Ça peut être ou le problème? Est ce que vous avez une idée ?

As I start to look at brake job prices for a 2017 xc90 I found this video and it rocks! What a fabulous job! Even the little detail about where to jack it up and put the jack stand. Above all the rest. Thank you! Any chance there is a rear brake video on the way? That would be phenomenal!

Can you post a picture of where you recommend lifting the car from the back and where to put the jack stands in the back? Thanks, great video

Smudgy rotors are making me lose sleep. Hope it is just brake dust. Otherwise a great instructional video.

Thank you very much for this excellent instructions video, really appreciate the inside (well lit view) of the brake assembly. One request I have; do you have a video about upgrading to a larger rotor and brake calliper (two pistons) like the Polestar upgrade for Volvo? That would be greatly appreciated.

This video was excellent! I’m stoked you’re doing these videos as I have a spa xc60. Would it be the same process as it’s the same platform and would the T8 PHEV model have the same setup? Thank you for making this type of content!

Hi. I watched this video to guide me in changing rotors and pads on 2017 xc90. This is a good video. Thank you. I’ve watched a lot of brake changing videos for several cars I have had. None of the videos recommend opening the master cylinder reservoir so that in the event there is so much brake fluid in the system (if say dealer topped it off) that when compressing the cylinders in the calipers and no place for it to go, it can overflow there. Probably good idea to suck some fluid out before compression if it is high. In my case, when compressing the second cylinder, I think that is when some fluid found its way out of the system and onto my garage floor. Not a ton and I don’t know yet where it came from. Brakes work fine and no more fluid seems to have left the system. So, wouldn’t it be prudent to mention this and add a step in this video to at least open up the cap? It seems that with too much fluid in the system that a caliper seal could open or the fluid could find its way out somewhere else.

It’s been a long time since I’ve changed brake pads and back then I did them with my Dad who was a mechanic brake specialist. We bled the brakes. Is this not necessary anymore?

Hi there, thanks for the video. After completing this job on my 2018 XC90 I received a "power steering failed" notification on my dash. Any ideas how these could be related?

Your auxiliar battery is on it's way. I had that issue few times,message popped and disappeared straight away..ended up being the auxiliary battery not holding charge. Very easy job to do.

Please do some DIY videos on the 2016+ XC90! Most of these are not covered under warranty anymore and are now owned by DIY ers! Start with the engine mounts and the suspension - Upper control arm and work down from there!

Great video. Clear and concise with excellent camera work. One comment..how about brake cleaner for the rotor to remove protective coating and fingerprints?
@fcpeuro-media
@fcpeuro-media 10 ай бұрын
You do not want to use any chemicals on the rotors. The best thing to do is handle them so you won't contaminate the contact surface. Break in procedure takes care of the coating that needs to come off.

Great video! I love your attention to detail! I have to replace all my brakes and rotors on my 2016 XC90 Inscription and the cost from the dealer was very high. I'm thinking of sending it to a regular shop, but after seeing your attention to detail required to do a perfect job, I'm starting to second guess my decision.

@@fcpeuro-media Lol! I'm not a DIY guy, trust me! Anyway, I've gotten prices from other shops and they are only significantly cheaper if I go with third-party brake pads and rotors. Once I ask for Volvo OEM parts, the price is almost the same as the dealership. So, the real decision is whether I should risk going with third-party parts. In this case Zimmermann. Are they a reputable brand that's just as good as Volvo OEM?

The safest thing to do when lifting your vehicle would be to leave it in park, as you do not want it to roll on you.
