Saloon or SUV, I'd go for an SUV mainly because for the hatchback which is easier for carrying loads. But, if you said estate Vs SUV, I'd go for an estate. One of my favourite looking estates is the Volvo V60

Classy. Not overmade and ostentatious like some other cars… people often get confused between those things. The real luxury isn’t what screams, as Rolls Royce has always proved. No need for 10 screens and 2 TVs 8k ok wheels. Just like the XC90, the S90 is just perfect. As does your video. Cheers, Anna!
@NormanPaton-n6u9 ай бұрын
I have had one of these for a month now (an ex-demonstrator, so 33% off the list price with under 3000 miles on the clock). Looking at the S90 was encouraged by an earlier positive review on this channel! The new review fully corresponds with my experience. The car is unusually quiet even when the petrol engine is active, it accelerates impressively for such a heavy car, and is comfortable. Most reviewers strongly imply that the S90 is not a driver's car, but it's quite happy with spirited driving, maintaining its composure in bends. Average fuel consumption of course depends on how often you exceed the battery range, but mine is currently over 70mpg for a mixture of urban and rural driving.

I think it is hard to beat a nice saloon, Luxury and practicality rolled into one. The S90 is a nice wagon shame that there is not more of them on the road. Interiors of all Volvos is key selling point in my opinion. Super review Anna.

Hi Anna, as usual you make great videos. You mentioned that people whine about the Chinese owning Volvo, but then they should think again. Because as long as American Ford owned Volvo, Ford did not invest in developing Volvo, but rather Volvo was used to improve the American Ford car. Because you actually have to thank the Chinese Zhejiang Geely for his company buying up Volvo, because Volvo was almost done with new Volvo models that were coming. BUT the first thing Geely did as a new owner was to tear down all the clear new upcoming models, then Geely said they make the models bigger, more luxurious inside and discard Volvo's sound system. This is because Geely wanted to increase sales of Volvo in China, as the Chinese like large and more luxurious cars with good sound systems. That is why Volvo now has the sound systems Bowers & Wilkins and Harman/Kardon. So you can say that if the Zhejiang Geely company hadn't bought Volvo, maybe Volvo wouldn't still exist today. Just look at this Volvo S90 both exterior and interior and compare it to the model that existed when American Ford owned Volvo. China saved and wanted Volvo to be better and sell more while American Ford only used Volvo to improve Ford and not Volvo . Those who complain about China owning Volvo don't think this.
@gigabyte25736 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely spot on, Geely gave Volvo all the money they needed to turn the company around, and let Volvo get on with the job of development, whereas Ford just told them to fit Ford parts to their line-up, this was a step backwards as far as quality went, but once Geely owned them Volvo could develop their own suspension, engines etc in house, and never looked back since, love the S90 T8 Recharge, but I would choose something a little smaller like the Volvo V60 Cross Country B5, but then I've had three Volvo's to date, and wouldn't consider any other brand now !

I will never understand why MB and BMW have gone so crazy with lights, screens, glass and fake crystal everywhere, they look so kitchy. I'm not against screens, for example I love what Tesla have been doing with minimizing the interiors(with a hard exception on removing the signaling stalks, that's just stupid). This is exactly what I'd see as luxury. Clean, solid, subtle, understated, some wood, with good taste, not everywhere like bentleys used to do. Just an overall very well balanced car. And with a ton of power, finally Volvo cave and realized they need to make powerful cars. I'd even like the V90 to be honest, especially the cross-country version.

The question I have with hybrids is this - how hard and expensive are they to fix when they hit the 135-200k mile range and things start to break down?
@AnnaOnRoads9 ай бұрын
Hi Rick, with plug-in hybrids you have 2 components to service - the combustion engine and the electric motor. So if you are very unlucky and both break down, then it is more expensive than a pure combustion engine. But that is ONLY if you get unlucky. They don't just break down because they hit the 135-200k mile range mark. But if you do a solid mixture of city/local roads and long-distance driving, the savings can be significant. In the next couple of weeks, I will post a video discussing different hybrid types, pros cons etc. might be worth checking it out!

I think the term SUV has become very overloaded by the UK press covering everything from a Hummer to a crossover, anyway I digress. The joke on the politicians was on point ! This S90 really appeals to me but I'd have trouble buying a car Made in China. I don't care who invested in the company, as long as it is built where it should. I would buy one second hand in a few years to replace my S80 if it is reliable enough to outlive it, which I doubt. Average consumption on the dash (50l/100) is scary, not only in this review but also in the used car market (between 10 and 20l/100). A bit gas guzzler but 310hp ICE explains it. Interesting to hear the handling is very good to Anna, as lots of reviewers felt the car was really too heavy and all over the road in dynamic driving. Maybe the latest model years improved ? As for the seating position, most Volvo high end sedans have it pretty high, most of the time in my S80, I am seated as high as someone in a small SUV/crossover so I don't see the point. I agree to your conclusion, glad some people are here to defend the sedan ! Nice review, thanks Anna!

You used the word practical. Not really applicable, if you have a degree in economics and/or engineering. Hybrids exist for auto manufacturer profit aka selling many more replacement parts out of warranty. What fails like clockwork out of warranty? Electrical parts of course and why Hybrids exist having two powertrains and not only an internal combustion engine for parts to fail. Business model calculus. An economic equation. Consumer getting a good deal? Not even close. Double your anguish when owning a vehicle with two powertrains if you own it out of warranty and why you will see high end automobiles with hybrid systems have the lowest resale in automotive history. That said, if you have 10 million in the bank, Euros, Pounds or US dollars, pick your currency, doesn't matter in the least. Chump change. High repair costs out warranty if you can even find a mechanic competent enough to repair a Hybrid system with 100 computers, doesn't matter. Rich people flip their cars like changing toothbrushes. So a parallel universe of sorts. Is this vehicle a magic carpet ride? Pretty close, as you report while it lasts. For 1/2 the money, a Lexus ES350 with normally aspirated V6 (until Lexus discontinues this engine in the ES as they have many other models) will go twice the miles with a fraction of the reliability cost 'out of warranty' when the consumer pays and not the manufacturers for parts that fail. And btw for those that don't know, through product development testing, engineers that create these complication contrivances, know statistically when they fail in their product life cycle. In engineering and economics parlance, 'there is no free lunch'. Want a vehicle with good performance and is fuel efficient? You will pay for that complexity dearly in initial purchase cost for all the hardware and software that goes into a Hybrid not to mention added weight due to Hybrid drive system that negatively impacts handling and increase to tire wear and incidentally why a Z06 Corvette with single gas engine will crush the new Eray Hybrid Corvette around a test track this forthcoming year when released...increased mass and moment of inertia. Outside of warranty, it is the consumer that is stuck with much higher repair costs aka failed motor inverters, battery BMS's and batteries themselves that don't exist on automobiles with just a gas engine. No free lunch. Fuel saving by paying more for a Hybrid with two powertrains is a ruse, a canard.
