We owned four Volvos back in the day, and they were insanely reliable and easily lasted over 200k miles. Maintenance and repairs were incredibly easy. With the fussy tech in today's Volvos, I would be severely disappointed in their long-term reliability and longevity. That said, this is a gorgeous car. By modern design standards, it's understated and classy.

Volvo doesn’t provide power telescoping steering column for safety reasons. In the event of an accident the steering column can still be manipulated.
@MercOneАй бұрын
Where did you get this from? Have you ever heard of a Mercedes, Saab, Audi, and others where the steering column is designed to collapse and move out of the way?
@ALFOONUSАй бұрын
@@MercOne Its a fact, a manual steering column can be moved completely out of the way in the event of a crash, a powered one cannot. Also, SAAB dont exist as a car company so hardly relevant!
@Reihenmotor529 күн бұрын
@@MercOne from one of the many safety videos here posted by Volvo. I was curious as to why since I own a Volvo. Search is your friend, go find some and watch. Seeing how many ridiculous posts you’ve made here, you apparently have the time. Volvo’s safety engineers determined that in a frontal crash that even after collapsing it’s harder to move/manipulate a powered steering column due to the motor and wiring harnesses. For a company focused on and researches post crash vehicles, it makes sense. Haha, Saab who went bankrupt in 2011 and hasn’t made a car in a decade, that Saab? Audi, you mean the luxury arm of VAG? I pretty sure our Q5, that’s on my channel, is an Audi. MB, who makes that cute CLK cabriolet of yours? Yes I know them all. I appreciate a good laugh from someone who posts without taking a moment to do research on a topic, maybe check a users channel, and has your tone in a reply. Thanks for the laugh today MercOne and to everyone else don’t feed the troll.
@MercOne29 күн бұрын
@@Reihenmotor5 The only laugh is at that outdated nonsense you're talking about. A video from Volvo doesn't mean that their approach is the only one that is correct. Is it that you don't understand what the word collapse means? Meaning you don't have to move the steering column after a crash because it is designed to deform and move out of the way during the crash. Every other brand in the luxury space has been doing this for years and they're able to offer a steering column that adjust for reach and as well as rake. Saab going belly up has nothing do with their safety engineering which was some of the best around at the time. Again try following you own advice and doing some research before you post. Yeah Audi, what does being own by VAG have to do with their safety engineering? You mean the CLK cabriolet that I had like 15 years ago? You don't seem to know much of anything, doesn't matter what your channel is. KZbin is not known for it's abundance of knowledgeable car channels or people. Hence you. Try again, and research other brands before you post.
@MercOne29 күн бұрын
@@ALFOONUS Nope, it isn't factual. Depends on the severity of the crash and that is why every car maker that knows anything about safety designs the steering column to collapse during a crash. Saab was a pioneer in safely and a lot of it came from the aviation industry. Doesn't matter if they're around or not, they addressed the steering column issue years ago when they were in business is my point. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Acura and other all do a collapsible column today. Try again.

I was at the Volvo dealer picking up parts for my 1990 Volvo 240. There was a V90 in the showroom. I gave it a look and laughed. The ergonomics are more nightmare than bad joke. The big downfall for the 90 is the dreadful weight distribution from the front wheel drive. Also, the V90 is short on cargo room, too. I can only imagine the costs of keeping this electrical nightmare operational for the 34 years and 400,000+ miles the old 240 lasted before terminal rot forced its retirement.

This has always been an interesting choice. By pretty much every metric, it's not really competitive to a E-class or 5-series (especially now that those are both a generation newer). So it becomes an emotional, alternative option. Except, unlike other emotional options, say a Jaguar or Alfa Romeo, this one is actually more plain and boring than the norm. What's left is, well - a tough sell. But I do really like it. And I'd honestly probably feel more like myself in one of these - a bit more understated and classy - than in a BMW or Benz, which I'm not sure I could really take myself seriously in.

It’s Volvo’s flagship sedan, but doesn’t necessarily compete head to head with the executive sedan segment. For one, it is much less expensive than the competition you mentioned (MSRP is 60k vs 80k+). As such, it offers less high tech and luxury features than some of the competition. It’s more in line with the midsize sedan class in these ways. It’s still a very nice offering with nice features, but not on the same level as those competitors in particular. It’s a really nice competitor on the base end compared to a 5 series, but compared to the executive sedan segment it’s no where near it. Take a look at some of the customization options, displays, and massaging seats in those models.

@MattCC16Gaming Price and features is subjective, not all offerings offer ALL of the exact same features.the Genesis G90 doesn't cost nearly as much as a S-Class or 7-Series and offers an assortment of tech and features standard that the others either don't offer or is part of options packages you have to add on but they're all full-size flagship luxury saloons. The 5-Series clearly competes with the Audi A6, Merc E300, Cadillac CT5, and Genesis G80, all Mid-size Luxury sedans. The Volvo S60, clearly a compact luxury sedan competes with the Merc C300, Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS, Cadillac CT4, and Genesis G70. The Acura TLX also slots there even though it's closer in size to the mid-size offerings its slotted to compete with the compacts. Those are their respective vehicle classes. They're like-size based classification in the lineup of vehicles. The S90 while lagging terribly when it comes what all the competition is doing it has always been classified and compared with full-sizes flagships.
